Thomas Brasch accepted the award and the premium of DM 50,000, but made a controversal speech in which he thanked the national film school of East Germany and pointed out that the politics of the Bavarian Minister president would clearly be against his opinions. After that, the Bavarian government decided not to pay for Mr. Brasch's hotel room in Munich.
