There are sports dramas, and then there’s Friday Night Lights.
While All American and other series have explored the heightened drama that unfolds on the gridiron and in the locker room, no show in modern history has consistently done so with as much heart as Fnl.
ESPN columnist Bill Simmons once hailed it as “the greatest sports-related show ever made.” Many critics would add that the contest is not a particularly close one.
(NBC Universal (YouTube screenshot))
Now, Variety is reporting that Universal is developing a reboot of the beloved series, which ran from 2006-2011.
Surely some fans are excited about the prospect of returning to the world of Texas high school football.
But the prevailing mood at the moment is one of utter confusion.
And the question on the minds of many Fnl devotees is simply: Why?

Rejoice, The White Lotus fans! And get ready to dance to one of the most strange opening themes on TV. The White Lotus season 4 may actually be happening after all. Here’s what we know.
The first season of The White Lotus caught me by surprise. Because of the talented cast that includes Jennifer Coolidge, Connie Britton, and Sydney Sweeney, I know I would enjoy the series. But I never thought I would absolutely love it. HBO’s The White Lotus easily became a must-watch and favorite. From the mesmerizing opening theme to the clever writing, there’s so much to love about Mike White’s The White Lotus.
Its popularity skyrocketed, not stopping after the first season. Instead, the satire comedy-drama grew to an anthology. Season 2 follows different characters, with the exception of a few, focusing on a new story. The second season stars F. Murray Abraham, Adam Dimarco,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 6 “Confessions.”] Tommy may be a common name, but it’s not that common in the world of 9-1-1. We knew that Abby (Connie Britton‘s Season 1 dispatcher) had an ex with that name, but as Buck (Oliver Stark) learns in the latest episode, her Tommy and his (Lou Ferrigno Jr.) are the same person. It’s shocking, but, after a great talk with Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Josh (Bryan Safi), he’s ready to move past it. Tommy, however, responds to his suggestion they move in together by breaking up with him. Elsewhere in the episode, Eddie (Ryan Guzman) is doing much better after a conversation with a priest about not punishing himself. He even finds a bit of joy in an homage to the Risky Business dance! And, after Maddie raises the question of potentially ...

Note: This story contains spoilers from “9-1-1” Season 8, Episode 6.
Perpetually lovelorn — and injury-prone — firefighter Buck (Oliver Stark) got his heart broken again in Thursday night’s episode of “9-1-1,” when his boyfriend of six months Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.) suddenly broke up with him.
Buck and Tommy were just celebrating their sixth month anniversary when Buck learned that, before he came out as a gay man, Tommy was engaged to Abby — yes, that Abby (Connie Britton) — for two years. He was upset that Tommy could have stayed in a relationship with his former flame for so long living a lie, until Josh (Bryan Safi) explained how much harder it was to be open about one’s sexuality even just a few years ago.
Buck took that moment of doubt and decided to double down on his relationship with Tommy by asking him to move in. However, Tommy thought “baby bi...

[This story contains spoilers from episode six, season eight of 911.]
Buck (Oliver Stark) is back on the market following Thursday night’s episode of 911.
Early into episode six of season eight, “Confessions,” Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.) makes a startling revelation when he casually shares that he used to be engaged to 9-1-1 dispatcher Abby Clark (Connie Britton). At the time, he doesn’t know Abby is also Buck’s ex.
But, surprisingly, it’s not their shared past that is the undoing of their relationship. After notably only having a mini-spiral session about Tommy admitting that he broke Abby’s heart, leading her to date a “himbo” half her age after they called it quits — him being the male Bimbo — Buck asks Tommy to move in with him toward the end of the episode. What should be a happy moment quickly turns sour, however, when Tommy tells Buck he believes he’s his first male relationship after coming into his bisexuality mid-season seven,...

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for Thursday’s “Confessions” episode of ABC’s “9-1-1.”
Following this week’s episode of “9-1-1,” Buck (Oliver Stark) and Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.) are no longer sitting in a tree. The hour started with the young couple celebrating their latest monthly anniversary and ended in their breakup, after Buck found out that Tommy was once engaged to his former great love Abby (Connie Britton), who left LA (and “9-1-1”) several years ago.
But it wasn’t Buck’s reaction to that revelation that ended the relationship, as Buck worked through his concerns about Tommy’s previous relationship with a woman and Buck’s first relationship with a man and ultimately asked Tommy to move in. In fact, it was Tommy’s choice to break up with Buck when he decided that, though Buck might think he’s ready for that step, Tommy thinks...

Hulu has greenlighted Phony, a comedy pilot starring and executive produced by Connie Britton, from Drew Goddard’s Goddard Textiles and 20th Television.
Written, directed and executive produced by Nick Paley (Marcel The Shell With Shoes On), Phony is a comedic coming-of-age mystery about a teenager, Sonny, who wakes up in the hospital after a car accident to discover his mom — his only parent and his best friend — appears to have been replaced by an impostor.
Britton will play Sonny’s single mom Ellen and the principal of his high school.
The pilot brings Britton back to her comedy roots — she started her career with an arc on Ellen before landing a lead role opposite Michael J. Fox on Spin City.
Britton and Paley executive produce Phony alongside Charlie Alderman of Charlie’s Production Company and Drew Goddard and Sarah Esberg via Goddard Textiles. Goddard Textiles’ Andrea Massaro is a producer.
