- Sent in a photo of himself, as a boy in a scout uniform, to secure his audition with Deep Purple in 1973.
- The original 1982 version of the Whitesnake classic, "Here I Go Again", featured the line, "Like a hobo, I was born to walk alone", but the 1987 version replaced the word "hobo" with "drifter". In an interview, Coverdale claimed he changed the lyric because he was afraid people would think he was saying homo instead of hobo.
