- His mother is Peruvian and his father was Scottish. He was raised in Peru, Spain, Trinidad, Scotland and now lives in Hawaii.
- He was kicked out of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) before joining the Citizens Theatre in Glasgow, where he performed for a number of years. He also performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Royal National Theatre, the Almeida, Liverpool Playhouse, Babel Theatre Company, and 7:84 Theatre Company (Scotland), to name a few.
- Speaks fluent Spanish.
- He auditioned for Lost (2004) by putting himself on a DVD in London and sending it off to LA.
- Lives in Hawaii.
- Has three sons: Elias, Lucas, and Esau.
- Special commendation for the Ian Charleson Award 1994 (best performance by an actor under 30 in a classical role) for the title role in 'Torquato Tasso' at the Edinburgh International Festival and Creon in Oedipus at the Citizens Theatre in Glasgow.
- He has three children with his wife, Annie Cusick Wood.
- He attended the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) and received his first acting job at Citizens Theater, both in Glasgow.
