The Comedy Store in Los Angeles has long been rumored to be haunted. Countless comedians have told stories of eerie encounters, flickering lights, and strange whispers in the night. But few stories are as terrifying or as baffling as the one told by Joe Rogan about the late comedian Carl Labove.

It’s a tale of supernatural aggression, a dark and silent stage, and an unseen force that quite literally dragged Labove into the unknown. But does the story really add up? It’s Joe Rogan telling us that story though. There has to be some truth to it. Right? Let’s find out.

America’s Sweetheart, Ari Shaffir’s new Netflix stand-up special, bears a title that flies in the face of the hilariously edgy jokes you’ll hear during the comic’s latest hour. “I’m a big troll,” Shaffir laughed as he explained the special’s ironic name. “I like to rile people up. I’m a habitual shit-starter.”
What to expect from the new special? “I’m trying to take every single thing that people say, ‘This is too serious,’ and I’m gonna be like, ‘Let me show you how to find some joy out of that,’” he says. The message of America’s Sweetheart? “Guys, chill the fuck out.”
I recently spoke with Shaffir about the state of comedy in 2025, the legend of working the door at the Comedy Store and how the advent of podcasting permitted provocative comics to be themselves.

Alien-themed animated TV shows offer a unique blend of visuals and deep narratives, often exploring existential themes in creative ways. Critically acclaimed series like The Midnight Gospel and Solar Opposites showcase the creative heights that animation can achieve, blending humor with insight. Despite some shows being underrated or canceled prematurely, the impact of these alien-centered animations on pop culture cannot be denied.
No style can more powerfully represent extraterrestrial life than animation, and as such, there have been plenty of amazing animated TV shows about aliens. Whether they follow otherworldly creatures coming to Earth to interact with mankind or showcase creatures traversing the vast recesses of the galaxy, aliens have long been fodder for animated TV series. While some were criminally underrated shows that ran for just one season, others were long-running classics that have become entrenched in popular culture.

Comedian Joey Diaz and co-host Lee Syatt are back in podcast land with a brand new podcast that premiered today. Diaz and Syatt had a podcast a couple years ago called “The Church of What’s Happening Now” And now they are back with “The Check In” which will have weekly episodes every Tuesday.
I first saw Joey Diaz on Joe Rogan’s podcast a couple years before Covid. I was super happy to find out that Joey had a podcast, which fans call “The Church”. Diaz’s comedy, and his ability to tell a story have always captivated me, because I can picture what he is talking about. Diaz recently released a book titled ” Tremendous” that was co-authored by Erica Florentine. “If u saw me kick a guys ass after the show last night, I am sorry,” wrote comedian Kim Congdon on Twitter this weekend. “He sexually assaulted me after my set (and bragged about it on his way out), ruining an otherwise perfect night for me.”
Congdon — whose credits include Impractical Jokers, Stoned Science, Broad Topics on YouTube as well as her This Bitch podcast and appearances on big-name podcasts such as The Joe Rogan Experience and Kill Tony — was opening for Joey Diaz at Sony Hall in New York when, she told Deadline tonight, the incident took place.
“I had left my phone on a tripod near the sound booth and went to get it” after her set, Congdon said. That took her through the crowd. “The guy must have been walking back from the bathroom or something.”

Spoiler Warning: This story discusses a major sequence in “The Many Saints of Newark,” currently playing in theaters and streaming on HBO Max.
Part of the enduring appeal of “The Sopranos” was how the HBO series operated in counterpoint to decades of organized crime myth-making by Hollywood, from Warner Bros. gangster pictures of the 1930s up through “The Godfather” and “GoodFellas.” The show’s psychologically complex central anti-hero, Tony Soprano (the late James Gandolfini), wasn’t glamorous or flashy or cool, and the many acts of violence on the show, generally, weren’t either.
So when regular “Sopranos” director Alan Taylor and series creator David Chase agreed to make the prequel feature film “The Many Saints of Newark” — which follows Tony’s formative years as a teenager (played by Gandolfini’s son Michael Gandolfini) with his uncle Dickie Moltisanti (Alessandro Nivola) — they had to figure out how to embrace the...

Since Covid began last year, there has been one voice that I constantly looked forward to hearing week after week. And that voice belonged to comedian Joey Diaz. Diaz has been a stand-up comic with thirty years of experiences and stories. Along with his stories and jokes, Diaz also goes out of his way to answer questions and advise about life and comedy. I have been a fan of Joey Diaz since first seeing him on the Joe Rogan Podcast two or three years ago. I was super excited to find out that at the time, Diaz had a podcast at the time called, The Church of what’s Happening Now, which he co-hosted with Lee Syatt. Since Covid occurred, The Church wrapped up last year, and Lee Syatt is still doing podcasts. Be sure to look him up on YouTube and other platforms. Last year Joey Diaz moved back...

With his Netflix animated series The Midnight Gospel, comedian Duncan Trussell embraced a novel technique and challenge, juxtaposing fantastic interstellar adventures with audio from a series of podcast interviews.
A collaboration between Trussell and Adventure Time’s Pendleton Ward, the adult animated series centers on Clancy, a spacecaster (or video podcaster in space) living in a dimension known as “The Chromatic Ribbon,” who uses his multiverse simulator to travel to dying worlds.
Framed on pre-recorded interviews with comedians, spiritual teachers and other guests of The Duncan Trussell Family Hour, including Joey Diaz, Trudy Goodman and Dr. Drew, each episode features conversations between Clancy and a being from a distant planet, touching on such themes as meditation, hope and death.
Trippy, existential and heartfelt, The Midnight Gospel emerged as a concept on the part of two-time Emmy winner Ward. “He was a fan of the podcast, and he had this idea,...

After telling a coworker that my fiancé and I have a podcast called Coffee & Conspiracy, he recommended that I check out the Joe Rogan Podcast and so I did. I’m glad I did check out Joe Rogan’s podcast, because it made me aware of a great comedian and storyteller named Joey Diaz.
I started watching all the Joey Diaz’s clips on YouTube that I could find and checking out his podcast called The Church of What’s Happening Now. If you want some inspiration and motivation in your life, and a laugh I recommend that you check them out. I think we need more inspiration and motivation in this crazy world we live in now. For me personally listening to Joey Diaz makes me want to work harder at things that I want to do in my life.
If you have Netflix be sure to check out Joey Diaz’s standup.

Lionsgate is capitalizing on its recent acquisition of 3 Arts Entertainment by setting up two multi-camera comedy series prospects for Fox from talent repped by the management-production firm.
Both projects will be co-productions with Fox Broadcasting Co. The orders for these projects and others are a sign that Fox intends to continue developing scripted series even as its parent company awaits a big transition in selling off other studio and network assets to Disney.
“Uncle Joey” stars comedian Joey Diaz as a Cuban immigrant with a troubled past who moves to an upscale suburb to raise his daughter. “King of the Hill” alums Sivert Glarum and Michael Jamin penned the script and exec produce with Diaz and 3 Arts’ Michael Rotenberg, Jonathan Berry and Josh Lieberman.
“Significant Brother” revolves around a newlywed couple whose life is changed when the brother’s estranged gay brother moves in and becomes best friend with his wife.

Olaf’s Frozen Adventure is not going down well in the Us...
In the UK, Disney’s Frozen found itself back in the box office top ten last week, courtesy of a special re-release that saw the inclusion of a new 21 minute short film, Olaf’s Frozen Adventure beforehand. The original plan was to play the short before Pixar’s Coco. But Coco doesn’t land in the UK until next month, and because the new Frozen short is Christmas-themed, Disney opted with a limited Frozen release in the UK instead.
But in the Us, the short is indeed playing with Coco. And, er, there’s been a bit of a backlash. Parents in the States have been registering unhappiness at having to sit through 20 minutes of trailers, and then the 21 minute short, until they get to Coco itself. Also, the short itself is hardly getting rave reviews.

Coco's little lovebug is getting sassy! The 36-year-old posted on her Instagram page Thursday a new photo of her and husband Ice-t's baby girl Chanel nestled in a bright pink blanket, wearing a pale pink rose-patterned onesie and pink and jeweled headband that spells out "Love." But it's the child's expression that caught her mom's attention. "My little lovebug... This is the new sneaky look she gives," Coco wrote. Chanel had worn the same outfit while meeting her dad's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit co-star Mariska Hargitay this week. Coco gave birth to Chanel, her first child with Ice-t, 57, in November. Ice-t and Coco tried to play the name game with fans. Needless to say, viewers came up with some odd choices for their baby girl. "Coco and I are vey excited about having baby," the rapper and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star, 57, said on Friday's episode of Ice & Coco. "The other day, we released the name and the gender. It's a girl and we're going to name her Chanel." Coco, 36, said they "came up with that name 10 years ago." At the time, they also agreed upon a name if they were to ever have a baby boy. "I don't know if we'll give away our boy name cause somebody will steal it," Ice-t said. "Should I give away the boy name?...

Synopsis
In a mundane hospital hallway, fine arts photographer Nicolas, epileptic since childhood, falls for the aloof Isabel, unaware she is visiting her suicidal mother. The narrative begins through Nicolas's lens then cuts back to follow Isabel prior to their meeting. Their stories merge as they're suddenly engaged in a highly charged relationship. When the intense getting acquainted period wanes, it seems worth attempting to transcend respective flaws and demons, yet commitment is not something that comes easy to either of these resolutely independent people. Nico and Isabel find the future increasingly less foreseeable and the vivid present ever more deeply affecting.

Synopsis
On December 25, 1985, adding to the chaos of September's earthquake, Mexico awakened with news of the theft of 140+ pieces from the capitol city's National Museum of Anthropology. The heist was perfectly executed, bypassing the guards who were busy celebrating Christmas Eve. No one imagined that the perpetrators of the robbery slept peacefully, nightly, in the suburb of Ciudad Satélite - veterinary students and lifelong friends, Carlos Perches and Ramon Sardina. The magnitude of the theft wildly exceeded the expectations of the thieves. Carlos and Ramon depart their comfortable life for an underworld adventure that drags them into the abyss.

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.
"The Voice" coach Blake Shelton stopped by "The Tonight Show" and played a round of Random Object Football Toss with host Jimmy Fallon, in celebration of the start of football season on Thursday night. The pair attempted to throw items through a target, with mixed results, mostly because the objects were so odd (and mostly food-related). A bowl of eight-layer bean dip ended up making the biggest mess, though unsurprisingly, it was also the most fun for Shelton and Fallon to toss.
Shelton sat down with Fallon to discuss the host's recent purchase of a truck, with the country crooner offering up some advice on how best to care for the vehicle.

First time director Lotfy Nathan spent the years prior to his lengthy festival circuit tour (the kick star began at SXSW) documenting war in the streets of Baltimore, though not against drugs or the classic gang-bangers of old you might guess. Instead, the city’s police force have been puzzling over an urban siege of dirt-bike riders who take the streets as mobs of wheelie-pulling speed demons with a propulsion to ride fast and fuck with the 5-0 at every given opportunity. Thanks to widespread news coverage and self produced YouTube videos, the dirt-bike gang has come to be know as the notorious 12 O’Clock Boys. Nathan’s fiery docu debut searches for the motive behind these motor heads and finds a perfect example in a glib 13 year old whose only want in life is to mount a full sized dirt-bike like the troupe of bad ass riders he regards with the highest esteem.

While the movies have brought us many great sports films over the decades, boxing seems to hold a special place in film history, and has brought us some of the true classics of cinema history. And even as boxing has become less popular among the general American public, Hollywood’s love affair with pugilism has kept going strong. The twenty-first century has already brought us such acclaimed boxing films as Ali (2001), Million Dollar Baby (2004), Cinderella Man (2005), Rocky Balboa (2006), and The Fighter (2010). Now, director Peter Segal has entered this particular sub-genre with Grudge Match, a boxing comedy starring Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone. While it certainly won’t be counted among the great boxing films or the great sports comedies, it’s a fun little movie that’s worth a look if you’re interested.

Though The CW's "Cult" likely won't debut until 2013, the cast and crew is already hard at work shooting the new mystery series up in Vancouver. The show stars Matt Davis as Jeff Sefton, a reporter whose brother goes missing after becoming way too deeply invested in the intense fandom of a CW show. (Kinda makes you want to reconsider your viewing habits, no?)
He teams up with Skye Yarrow (played by "Melrose Place" hottie Jessica Lucas), a researcher who works for the TV show who believes the show is becoming dangerous to its viewers.

I’m sure almost every night in New York and Los Angeles, there is a room that contains handfuls of celebrities, bankers and society ladies clinking glasses and pledging thousands to some cause or another. But, though I have been to a whole lot of those kinds of soirees, I feel like the one I went to last night, a benefit for the Joyful Heart Foundation at Cipriani Wall Street in NYC, is a little bit different from the others. I can’t imagine there are many other events where you would see Ice-t and Coco meet wide-eyed teenagers, Debra Messing loudly promising to kiss a stranger, Samantha Ronson teaching a Christie’s auctioneer how to hold a mic, and Hilary Swank dancing in her seat as Harry Connick Jr. improvised lyrics in praise of Mariska Hargitay. (I mean, it’s no Channing Tatum grinding with Elton John, but still.

When Christopher Meloni, half of one of TV's most beloved will-they-won't-they-couples with Mariska Hargitay, left "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" after 12 seasons, it seemed like anyone who joined the "elite squad" of "dedicated detectives" would pale in comparison.
Eventually Kelli Giddish and Danny Pino were hired as series regulars to investigate "especially heinous sexually-based offenses" for Season 13 and this week, Giddish is the one winning the heart of Hargitay's Olivia Benson. In the May 2 episode of "Law & Order: Svu" (Wednesdays at 10 p.m. Et on NBC), entitled "Father Dearest," Benson and Rollins -- Giddish's character who was transplanted to New York's Svu from Georgia -- go undercover at a sperm bank as a couple looking for a donor.
"We went out to set and Mariska's like, 'Hi. Let's go be lovers for a second,'" Giddish told HuffPost TV with a laugh, recalling the scene, which you can see exclusively here below.

It was an impromptu decision by the casting director of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" when he couldn't find an actress for a guest spot, so he thought of Coco. But the scene would require her to do something Ice might not approve of. All the behind-the-scenes drama played out on this week's "Ice Loves Coco" (Sun., 10:30 p.m. Et on E!).
Coco was very nervous about the opportunity, even taking in an acting class in preparation. But then she arrived on set, and discovered that she would be kissing another woman. Ice was a little relieved that it was a woman, and it must have helped Coco relax as well, because she nailed that scene in one take.
It remains to be seen if the acting bug has hit Coco, and Ice will truly be able to retire at home with Spartacus, but the couple enjoyed seeing her on television.

It looks like Quentin Tarantino is putting the final pieces in place for "Django Unchained" as yet another actor has come aboard what is already a ridonkulous cast. Rising actress Danièle Watts will get a nice bit of a career boost coming aboard for Quentin Tarantino's film in the role of Coco. It's a small one, but still an opportunity for Watts to spend time at the catering table hanging out with Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson, Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Sacha Baron Cohen and more. Not bad. Watts has been working steadily, popping up recently on episodes of "Criminal Minds," "Detroit 187," and "Cold Case," but clearly this will be her biggest gig yet. While filming was originally slated to start this month, about a week ago Nola reported production had been pushed back slightly, with cameras now rolling in February. No reason given for the delay, but it...
