Canadian country music star Dean Brody is burning up the charts with his new single, “Paint the Town Redneck”, and he recently sat down with Et Canada’s Carlos Bustamante.
At the time, he’d just been forced to evacuate from Kelowna, right before several “big shows,” admitting he’s feeling “a little bit discombobulated right now.”
During the conversation, Brody looked noted that for those who knew him way back when, his success has been surprising.
“I was the least likely kid to make it, you know, in music,” he said. “So they’re really proud and they can’t believe it, because I’m quiet. You know, I’m I’m pretty reserved. I’m an introvert by nature.”

The 57th edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival got off to a banging start on Friday evening as free opening concerts by Russell Crowe — with his musical collective Indoor Garden Party — and British electronic music band Morcheeba got crowds rocking and grooving in the square in front of the picturesque Czech spa town’s Hotel Thermal.
Morcheeba fans came out in droves in the early evening despite some rain, cheering and moving along to such hits as opening number “The Sea” and “Trigger Hippie.” The performance followed the fest’s opening ceremony and seemed to put the town into party mode.
After Morcheeba’s appearance, anticipation started building for the late music act. Just before 11 p.m., Crowe arrived on stage, with a drink cup in hand, where he was greeted with loud cheers and applause. Earlier in the evening he had received the Crystal Globe for outstanding...

The Pope’s Exorcist is the latest horror film from director Julius Avery, starring Russell Crowe. With Alex Essoe, Franco Nero and Laurel Marsden. Based on the two memoirs written by Father Gabriele Amorth: An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist: More Stories.
An extravagant horror movie that goes absolutely nowhere, but turns out entertaining and amusing, in part thanks to Russell Crowe who somehow saves the day.
We are not going to get into controversies about the supposed “realism” of the proposal.
Within the genre, decent.
The Pope’s Exorcist Movie review
The best: Russell Crowe and his Italian accent speaking English. It is even “funny” that someone has taken this “seriously” which, apparently, has gone unnoticed.
The movie begins with a warning “be careful, he’s speaking in English”, so we must come to the logical conclusion: he’s possessed. Then there’s the good performance of the...

Oh, so Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe got together at Joe's Pub and belted out a tune from "Les Miserables"? It's just another Saturday night in New York City. While the upcoming film has already screened for critics, for audiences awaiting the big screen musical, this is a nice tease to hold them over until Christmas Day. Throughout the fall, the "Russell Crowe And Alan Doyle present the Indoor Garden Party" show has been hitting venues in NYC, and landed at the intimate Joe's Pub on the weekend. The show brings together a variety of performers -- Scott Grimes, Kevin Durand, Size 2 Shoes, Alan Doyle and fellow "Les Miserables" star Samantha Barks -- to play some songs and hang, but an extra treat was provided Saturday when Jackman and Crowe got together to sing "The Confrontation" from the musical. And you know what? Pretty nice job, guys. You can seem...

More than 20 years after the couple met playing lovers in the 1990 movie The Crossing, Russell Crowe and Danielle Spencer may not have their Hollywood happy ending after all. Married in April 2003, the New Zealand-born Oscar winner, 48, and his Aussie musician wife, 43, are reportedly no longer together, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. Crowe's rep has not responded to People's request for comment. The couple's apparent split comes after rumors of a rocky romance swirled over the summer. In June, Spencer was photographed out at a Sydney casino lounge with Damian Whitewood, her pro dance partner on season 12 of Australia's Dancing with the Stars.

Actor-writer-producer Allan Hawco can hardly believe his good luck. His labour of love, "Republic of Doyle," has proven to be the little show that could. Chicago – Erase from your mind every preconception you may have about a film entitled, “Robin Hood,” and you may find yourself enjoying, or at the very east admiring, Ridley Scott’s loose yet literalistic depiction of the legendary outlaw. No film will ever top Michael Curtiz and William Keighley’s 1938 classic starring Errol Flynn, which remains one of the all time great screen entertainments.
This “Robin Hood” takes place in a universe entirely separate from the one Flynn inhabited. It’s a hard-edged prequel in the modern sense, centering on an English warrior fresh from the Crusades named Robin Longstride (Russell Crowe, re-teaming with Scott a decade after their last action blockbuster, “Gladiator”), who joins the fight against King Philip of France. Scott seems intent on doing for Robin Hood what “Batman Begins” did for the Caped Crusader, yet this film is too melancholy and deliberately paced to truly take flight.

'Robin Hood' movie delivered lots of drama, action & dialogue. Universal Pictures released their new version of the action/adventure/drama movie "Robin Hood" this weekend, and the storyline ran a little slow for my taste,it contained a lot of drama and action towards the end,but way too much dialogue for my personal taste. It stars: Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, William Hurt, Matthew Macfadyen, Mark Strong, Oscar Isaac, Lea Seydoux, Scott Grimes, Kevin Durand, Alan Doyle, Danny Huston, and Max von Sydow. Robin Hood revolved around character Robin Longstride aka Robin Hood (Russell Crowe). In the beginning, he was only interested in own self-preservation from his service in King Richard's army against the French. After King Richard's death, Robin marched into Nottingham disguised as a knight, and returned the sword of King Richard to his father by request.

'Robin Hood' a well made violent action picture. Yesterday, Universal Pictures released their new version based on the famous and classic tale of Robin Hood entitled "Robin Hood" in theaters and top critics in the business gave the film decent reviews.
"Robin Hood" stars Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, William Hurt, Matthew Macfayden, Mark Strong, Oscar Isaac, Lea Seydoux, Scott Grimes, Kevin Durand, Alan Doyle, Danny Huston and Max von Sydow.
Roger Ebert from the Chicago Sun-Times gave the film a 'C' grade saying "Robin Hood is a high-tech and well made violent action picture." Meanwhile, Owen Gleiberman at Entertainment Weekly gave the flick a a grade of a 'C-'. He said, "Forget valor and excitement. Scott's Robin is all about backstory."
Personally, I've never been a huge fan of the Robin Hood story, however, I like Ridley Scott and believe he could make "The Power Rangers" into a good movie.

From Errol Flynn to animated foxes, Connery to Costner, the tale of Robin Hood has been done and overdone a hundred times, often striking the target or even splitting prior re-tellings.
Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood is an unnecessary entry to the lore, going to great lengths to uncover the man behind the myth by ignoring much of the beloved legend that has endured for centuries. Masquerading behind a traditional title, this contemporary remake robs from a rich history and gives only a poor origin story in return.
Brian Helgeland’s tedious screenplay begins with pages of parchment (burned along the edges, of course) establishing the year as 1199 and starting a stream of lengthy exposition that winds its way through a talky 140 minutes. It’s few action sequences are mere interruptions in a stretch of speeches and proclamations as the once heroic tale is mired in the minutiae of politics and unlawful taxation.

It seems that every twenty years or so, Hollywood decides it wants to take on the English folk hero Robin Hood. From the Douglas Fairbanks and Errol Flynn era, to the Connery/Hepburn duo of Robin and Marian and more recently the dubious-yet-classic Kevin Costner outing, Robin Hood is no stranger to the big screen. I’m going to make myself feel old right now and state that it has been nineteen years since Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and like it or not Hollywood has gone and made another Robin Hood film. This time out they decided to go with a great filmmaker—or rather someone who was a great filmmaker before 1991—Ridley Scott. Predictably, Scott’s Robin Hood is a gritty medieval tale, full of complex political intrigue, brutal battles and more characters than you can shake a sword at. What may come as a surprise to many,...

Director Ridley Scott needed 148 minutes to create his vision of Robin Hood. A vision that mixes in re-imagining with a prequel formula. Teaming up with Russell Crowe once again (Gladiator), audiences are expecting a gritty, epic telling of the famed outlaw who robs from the rich and gives to the poor. There's a chance you may feel you were mugged after sitting through this.

Chicago – “T’wang!” is the the sound of an archer’s arrow going right into the center of the summer movie kick-off season. Director Ridley Scott, Cate Blanchett, Max Von Sydow, William Hurt, Mark Strong, Oscar Isaac and Russell Crowe – in the title role of “Robin Hood” – offer a compelling story, plenty of action and an epic quality to the oft-told legend.

This is the Robin Hood of the Crusades, as the film opens at the end of the 12th century, and King Richard the Lionheart (Danny Huston) is leading his troops through the last invasion in France before everyone gets to go home. Robin is shown to be exceptionally brave through battle, and establishes further credibility when he meets his compatriot Little John (Kevin Durand) during a game of chance. When an encounter with the King lands both of them in the stocks, they miss the final battle,...

Russell Crowe and Ridley Scott bring Robin Hood back to the big screen. But is there more to it than Gladiator in the woods?
For anyone in any doubt as to Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe's revisionist intentions, their reduxed Robin Hood should carry its own warnings: no American accents, no Sheriff versus Robin climactic duel, and no jolly shenanigans. If their plan was to deliver a Robin we haven't seen before, then it's mission accomplished.
Winding back the historical clock, Scott and Crowe aren't interested in celebrating the legend, but rather how that legend was created. Like a superhero origin story (think 2008's Iron Man), they want to start from the beginning. This is a story that thrills in the creation of a hero, leaving the face-off between hero and villain as an afterthought.
Of course, Scott and Crowe's take on Robin Hood was always going to be different.

Robin Hood (2010) teams Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe and esteemed director Ridley Scott for the fifth time, following Gladiator (2000), A Good Year (2006), American Gangster (2007), and Body of Lies (2008), and once again they're taking a risk. After all, is the world ready for the umpteenth telling of the Robin Hood tale? Surely, given the talents of both men, separately and as a filmmaking tandem, we'll give them the benefit of the doubt. This new take on Robin Hood gives us Robin Longstride (Crowe), a master archer who's back home in England following the Crusades. Of course, life is hardly any calmer now, and Robin and a group of boisterous mates who'll shortly be known as the Merry Men find themselves contending with a corrupt village, a king in need of dethroning, a devious sheriff destined for a comeuppance, a country on the cusp of civil war, and more. Robin also has something...

Robin Hood
The Stars: Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett
The Plot: Robin Hood travels to the town of Nottingham, and gathers a gang of mercenaries to raid the upper class and fight back against the injustices of an evil sheriff.
The Buzz Nobody asks for another Robin Hood flick, right? That’s what I thought. Initially the script was sold as a retelling of the Hood story with a sympathetic look at the sheriff. Then Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe became interested. There’s nothing wrong with that. Especially when those two have the track record of Gladiator in their past.

I'm sure there is a lot of cool information on that Italian website where this poster premieres. I bet they're like: "Ridley Scott's take on the classic Robin Hood film, this time starring Russel Crowe as...Robin Hood." Ok, maybe they didn't use Robin Hood so much in one sentence. A new full trailer for director Ridley Scott's Robin Hood has appeared online, starring the gifted (but brash) Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett. The film takes the form of Gladiator set in a 13th century universe, with even the same actor playing the protagonist. However, although the two films are strikingly similar, there's a Braveheart-esque feel to this that I particularly find exciting. The trailer itself is marvelous. Co-starring Matthew Macfadyen, William Hurt, Oscar Isaac Mark Strong, Lea Seydoux, Scott Grimes, Alan Doyle, Kevin Durand, Danny Huston, and Max von Sydow, this action-adventure is slated for release on May 14th.
