One of the most acclaimed studio comedies in recent memory will soon be available from the comfort of your couch, in your preferred method of consumption. The movie in question is "Bros," the gay romcom starring Billy Eichner and directed by Nicholas Stoller, of "Neighbors" fame, not to mention that it was produced by Judd Apatow. The point is, this movie has a great pedigree of talent, with our own Sarah Milner giving it a glowing review out of TIFF. Now, for those who may have missed it in theaters, the time has come to watch it at home.
But the question becomes, what's the best way to watch "Bros" at home? Is it going to be available on a major streaming service? Is it available through digital retailers? And what about a Blu-ray release for lovers of physical media out there? We've got all of the information you need right here but,...

Peacock has announced that the groundbreaking romantic comedy Bros — the first from a major studio to center on two gay men — will begin streaming exclusively on the platform on December 2nd.
The film directed by Nicholas Stoller is a smart, swoony and heartfelt story about gay men — played by Billy Eichner and Luke Macfarlane—maybe, possibly, probably, stumbling towards love. Maybe. They’re both very busy. Its cast also includes Ts Madison, Miss Lawrence, Symone, Guillermo Diaz, Guy Branum, Monica Raymund, Jim Rash, Harvey Fierstein, Bowen Yang, Amanda Bearse, Dot-Marie Jones, and many more.
Eichner and Stoller penned the script. Stoller also produced alongside Judd Apatow and Josh Church, with Eichner exec producing.

Dir: Nicholas Stoller. Starring: Billy Eichner, Luke Macfarlane, Guy Branum, Ts Madison, Monica Raymund, Guillermo Diaz, Bowen Yang. 15, 116 minutes.
Bros comes bearing discourse wounds. After the much-hyped gay romcom bellyflopped its US release, its star and co-writer Billy Eichner raged against the dying buzz on Twitter. America’s “straight people, especially in certain parts of the country, just didn’t show up for Bros”, he declared, before urging anyone who isn’t a “homophobic weirdo” to check it out. Then came the think pieces: did Bros flop because of homophobia? Or because the romcom is dead? Or… because it’s a bad movie? Unfortunately, it’s the last one, since Bros is a big old mess.
A thrum of resentment simmers just under Bros’ metropolitan shine. Playing a perpetually single New York podcaster named Bobby, Eichner (who also co-writes) spends much of his film barking opinions at anyone unlucky enough to be nearby.

The LGBTQ romantic comedy stars Eichner and Luke Macfarlane as a gay couple navigating the complicated online dating world, with a few obstacles — and people — thrown in along the way.
Despite a number of solid reviews and a big promo push around it, Bros ultimately stalled at the box office, debuting to just 4.8 million in its opening weekend — less than half of the projected 10 million estimate.
Eichner later took to Twitter to express his disappointment,...

‘Bros’ Director, Producer Open Up About “Confusing” Opening Weekend and the Fierce Debate It Sparked

When buzz started building earlier this year for Bros, the first LGBTQ romantic comedy released theatrically by a Hollywood studio, it’s safe to assume that no one involved with the film anticipated the debate that would engulf social media and the industry in the wake of its release.
In a perfect world, the dialogue might have remained focused on the sterling reviews, with filmmaker Nicholas Stoller’s comedy currently holding an 89 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, or the A CinemaScore, or the movie featuring only Lgtbq performers in the main roles. Indeed, there didn’t appear to be anything particularly controversial about the premise of Bros, which tells the story of podcaster Bobby, played by Billy Eichner (who co-wrote the script) as a lone wolf convinced he’ll never find the right match until he falls for beefy Aaron (Luke Macfarlane), who...

“Success has many fathers,” the old saying goes, “but failure is an orphan.” Nonetheless, that orphan has no shortage of forensic surgeons ready to give it an autopsy. As early as Saturday of the opening weekend of the Universal gay romantic comedy “Bros,” the Monday-morning quarterbacking began, as various corners of the internet came forward with their reasons why the film’s grosses were a disappointment.
The marketing was too focused on its status as the first major-studio LGBTQ rom-com! It was too white! The poster was off-putting! The title was vague! Billy Eichner and Luke Macfarlane aren’t big enough names to open a movie! People don’t go to rom-coms during Halloween season! People don’t go to rom-coms, full stop! The reasons seemed endless. Sometimes they were thoughtful. Sometimes.
If you’re familiar with “Bros” star and co-writer Eichner’s work on “Billy on the Street” or “Difficult People,...

Billy Eichner is calling out straight people for not seeing “Bros” in theaters.
The Judd Apatow-produced romantic comedy opened to 4.8 million at the box office after premiering at TIFF and receiving strong reviews. However, lead star and co-writer Eichner is bemoaning the lack of audiences showing up in theaters as “homophobic,” especially in “certain parts of the country.”
“Everyone who Isn’T a homophobic weirdo should go see Bros tonight! You will have a blast! And it is special and uniquely powerful to see this particular story on a big screen, esp for queer folks who don’t get this opportunity often. I love this movie so much. Go Bros!!!,” Eichner tweeted.
“Bros” centers on a podcast host (Eichner) who is tasked with writing a romance film that appeals to straight audiences, in a meta twist. In real life, Eichner penned the script for “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” with director Nicholas Stoller,...

Billy Eichner has said he is “disappointed” that “straight people didn’t show up for” his new movie Bros.
The film, which is being pegged as Hollywood’s first major gay romcom, has received acclaim from critics, but has not been a hit at the box office.
It is estimated to make just 4.8m (approximately £4.3m) – half of what Universal had hoped – during its opening weekend.
In a Twitter thread shared on Sunday (2 October), Eichner wrote: “Last night I snuck in and sat in the back of a sold-out theatre playing Bros in LA.
“The audience howled with laughter start to finish, burst into applause at the end, and some were wiping away tears as they walked out. Really. I am Very proud of this movie.”
He added: “Even with glowing reviews, great Rotten Tomatoes scores, an A CinemaScore, etc, straight people, especially in certain parts of the country, just...

Billy Eichner is getting the box office results of his movie Bros and although the film is underperforming, he’s “proud” of the work he did on the big screen.
“Last night I snuck in and sat in the back of a sold-out theatre playing Bros in LA,” he tweeted. “The audience howled with laughter start to finish, burst into applause at the end, and some were wiping away tears as they walked out. Really. I am Very proud of this movie.”
Despite glowing reviews for the Judd Apatow-produced film, Bros has not been a hit at the box office and is estimated to only make 4.8M during its opening weekend, half of what Universal was estimating. Eichner acknowledged that the romantic comedy he stars in isn’t tracking within a certain segment of the population in the country.

If you’re an Applebee’s employee in Des Moines who wants to see Billy Eichner’s romantic comedy Bros, Guy Branum just made it a lot easier by serving it up on a platter — free of charge.
The comedian, who plays the witty best friend of Eichner’s character in the Nicholas Stoller-directed film, has bought out a showing specifically for staff at five Applebee’s restaurants in the greater Des Moines area. Locations in and around Iowa’s capital city include Merle Hay, Se 14th Street, Altoona, Jordan Creek and Ankeny locations with the screening set for Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. at AMC Classic Johnston 16 in Johnston, Iowa.

“Smile,” the horror film from Paramount and writer-director Parker Finn, made 2 million at the box office Thursday in its preview screenings from roughly 3,000 screens and that began at 7 p.m. It opens on 3,648 screens this weekend.
“Smile” opens alongside Universal’s “Bros,” the LGBTQ+ and R-rated romantic comedy from writer and star Billy Eichner. “Bros” brought in 500,000 at the box office in its own preview screenings from 2,700 theaters that began at 5 p.m. It opens on 3,350 screens this weekend.
Neither “Smile” or “Bros” is expected to break the 20 million mark this weekend, a disappointing trend for movies this month at the box office, though both have modest budgets and hope to turn a profit on the backs of strong reviews for each and some creative viral marketing, whether it’s eerily grinning fans at a baseball game or Eichner running down New York City streets with Paul Rudd and a pack of lesbians.

Nick Stoller and Billy Eichner’s “Bros” has plenty going for it beyond its allegedly boundary-breaking elements — Eichner, who co-wrote the film and stars in it, called it “the first gay rom-com ever released by a major studio” earlier this year, which is kind of true, but also not at all essential for enjoying the film on its own merits — and should (hopefully) prove to be box office catnip for audiences starved for funny, sexy, sweet romantic comedies.
“Bros” stars an entirely Lgtbq+ cast and centers on Eichner as a jaded podcast host who falls for Hallmark Channel alum Luke Macfarlane; the cast also includes Harvey Fierstein, Bowen Yang, Symone, Miss Lawrence, Guy Branum, Guillermo Diaz, Amanda Bearse, and Ts Madison.
As Eichner’s Bobby Lieber jokes throughout the film — it’s even part and parcel of its latest trailer — finding a way to tell gay stories for straight audiences is confusing at best,...

“Billy on the Street” is back — and with Paul Rudd.
After three years of waiting, a new episode of the hilarious rapid-fire series dropped online Tuesday, which Eichner announced in a tweet on Monday.
“Surprise! The first Billy On The Street In 3 Years drops Tomorrow!!!!!!” Eichner wrote on Twitter alongside a photo of Eichner and the “Ant-Man” actor sporting merchandise for the upcoming LGBTQ rom-com “Bros,” which Eichner stars in and co-wrote.
Indeed, the nearly three-minute episode features Rudd and Eichner running around New York City demanding straight people see “Bros,” which premieres in theaters Sept. 30.
“I’m out here back on the street with famous and beloved straight man Paul Rudd,” Eichner says in the episode’s intro. “We’re going to spread the word about my new movie ‘Bros.’ … Let’s bro!”

When you think about scrappy, micro-budget, guerrilla filmmaking of the ’90s, you think of Gregg Araki films. Shot on shoestring budgets with little more than his own two hands, Araki’s films were marked by a certain kind of radical punk rock aesthetic that mirrored the grunge era in music.
Described as a gay “Thelma and Louise,” he began the decade with “The Living End” (1992), a sexy road trip comedy about two young guys living with HIV. After making a splash at Sundance with that film, (and with the help of visionary longtime producer Marcus Hu), he churned out a trio of erotically charged teenage dirtbag films, dubbed his Teenage Apocalypse trilogy: “Totally Fucked Up” (1993), “The Doom Generation” (1995), and “Nowhere” (1997).
At the forefront of the New Queer Cinema, an enduring queerness ignites all of Araki’s films, though he certainly had fun toying with expectations. If every rebellious teenager wanted...

The indie thriller “You Can’t Stay Here,” starring “Law & Order: Organized Crime” and “Scandal” alum Guillermo Díaz, wrapped production this month in New York.
“You Can’t Stay Here” is loosely inspired by real events in New York City in the 1990’s, and follows a photographer (Díaz), who witnesses the brutal murder of a gay man in Central Park. When the cops take little interest in the crime, a relationship develops between the photographer and the killer.
“I have been a fan of Guillermo since his first film and when he approached me about wanting to work on something together, I jumped at the chance and came up with the story for ‘You Can’t Stay Here,’ ” said director Todd Verow, who produces through his Bangor Films. “It is a film about queer cruising and finding love and real human connections in the most unlikely places. On the MTV Movie & TV Awards red carpet in Santa Monica on Sunday, Eichner talked with Variety about why having an all-queer cast for the Universal film was so “important” to him.
“So often in Hollywood, a lot of the great LGBTQ roles historically have gone to straight actors, and they win awards for it. And they get a lot of acclaim and they use it to show people their range,” Eichner told Variety. “And the casting of ‘Bros’ is not to say that straight should only play straight and gay should only play gay. This is a hilarious meta trailer that rips apart Hollywood for even trying to have Eichner make a gay romcom, but then gets into some of the craziness with some real footage. Looks cute! Universal Pictures has released the first – and decidedly Nsfw – trailer for the upcoming romantic comedy “Bros,” and it paints a hilarious portrait of a gay man trying to find love.
In a meta twist, Billy Eichner co-wrote and stars in the film as a podcast host who’s enlisted to write a gay romantic comedy, and the story follows his burgeoning relationship with a man played by Luke Macfarlane (“Killjoys”). Described as a “smart, swoony and heartfelt comedy” the story chronicles “how hard it is to find another tolerable human being to go through life with.”
“Bros” is a first in a number of ways. Eichner is the first openly gay man to co-write and star in his own major studio film, and the movie features an entirely LGBTQ+ principal cast including Ts Madison (“The Ts Madison Experience”), Monica Raymund (“Chicago Fire”), Guillermo Díaz (“Scandal”), Guy Branum (“The Other Two...

Universal Studios has released the first trailer for “Bros,” a meta gay rom-com written by and starring Billy Eichner.
Premiering Sept. 30, the film is a major milestone as it is the first gay romantic comedy from a major studio featuring an entirely LGBTQ principal cast. Directed by Nicholas Stoller, Eichner plays an openly gay man who falls for Luke Macfarlane. Together, they stumble towards love.
In the trailer, Eichner’s character, Bobby Leiber, is seen on a podcast talking about Hollywood producers wanting him to write a rom-com about gay people. “Something a straight guy might like?” He quips. “Am I going to be in the middle of some high speed chase and all of a sudden fall in love with Ice Cube? Am I going to get butt fucked by Jason Momoa while worrying about a volcano?”
