Peter Frampton has officially announced his Let’s Do It Again Tour, which will see him perform at ten venues across North America through spring 2025.
In the announcement on social media, Frampton shared, “I am so thrilled to be able to come out and play again for you,” continuing, “It’s been a spectacular year; looking forward to seeing everyone soon.”
The former frontman of Humble Pie, Frampton, retired from playing live music in 2019 after he was diagnosed with Inclusion Body Myositis. However, last year, the 74-year-old musician declared that his retention of musical dexterity had surprised him—and he intended to make the most of it.
In addition to his tour, Frampton is also slated to perform at the Nashville tribute concert for late rock ’n’ roll guitarist Duane Eddy, Titan of Twang: A Celebration of Duane Eddy. The show will take place at the Grand Ol Opry House...

Forty-five years after “Honeysuckle Rose,” Amy Irving is set to release an album of her interpretations of 10 Willie Nelson songs — all picks suggested to her by Nelson, who also contributes a guitar solo to a song plucked from that film, “Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground.”
The forthcoming album, “Always Will Be,” is teased today with a title track that features a guest appearance by Amy Helm, a singer-songwriter in her own right and the daughter of Levon Helm. (Listen below.) Steve Earle is among the other featured artists on the album, due out April 25 on Queen of the Castle/Missing Piece Records. Irving will promote the new record with a handful of gigs, starting with a show May 4 at City Winery in New York City and another at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, NY on May 31.

After 15 years, two months, and 30 days, Cross Canadian Ragweed’s hiatus is over.
The Oklahoma four-piece, whose mid-2000s heyday laid the groundwork for the current surge in popularity of Red Dirt music, reunited to play six songs late Thursday, closing down the main stage on a cold night at Mile 0 Fest in Key West, Florida.
“I was honestly nervous, and I didn’t think I was going to be,” frontman Cody Canada tells Rolling Stone of the set, “but, man, that felt great.”

As promised, the Waterboys have shared the first single from their upcoming concept album about the life of actor Dennis Hopper, “Hopper’s on Top (Genius).”
Stationed near the midway point of the epic, 25-track Life, Death and Dennis Hopper, the new song captures the film icon at a pivotal moment in his career, when the actor — after a string of bit parts in classics like Cool Hand Luke and True Grit — found himself behind the camera to direct the landmark 1969 counterculture hit Easy Rider.

The Waterboys will return in 2025 with a new album revolving around the life of legendary actor Dennis Hopper, with an impressive guest list — including Bruce Springsteen and Fiona Apple — helping the long-running U.K. rockers along the musical journey.
Life, Death and Dennis Hopper, due out April 4th via the band’s new label Sun Records, is an ambitious 25-track “song cycle” that charts not only the late actor’s life story but also the past 75 years of Western pop culture.

When Nickelback’s Get Rollin’ tour hit Nashville last year, the Canadian rock stars went all out — and Nashville gleefully rolled out the red carpet for them in return. Their headlining gig at Bridgestone Arena was full of special guests, many of whom grew up listening to the massive — and frequently divisive — band.
During the show, stars like Daughtry, Hardy, Bailey Zimmerman, Brantley Gilbert, Josh Ross, and Ernest performed a mix of their own hits, Nickelback classics, and covers with the group. The result is featured on Nickelback’s Live From Nashville album,...

Nickelback have announced a new live album, Nickelback: Live in Nashville, arriving November 15th. The opening track “San Quentin” can be streamed now.
The 18-song set was recorded at a sold-out Bridgestone Arena in Nashville during the band’s 2023 “Get Rollin’ Tour.” Numerous guests took the stage that night, including Chris Daughtry for a rendition of “Savin’ Me.”
Other highlights include a cover of Steve Earle’s “Copperhead Road” with Brantley Gilbert and Josh Ross, “Rockstar” with Bailey Zimmerman, and “Sold Out” with Hardy. Of course, the band touched on their most well-known tracks such as “How You Remind Me” and “Photograph,” as well.
While Nickelback have three official live video DVD releases, the upcoming live album marks only the second official live audio release from the band following the 2021 release of the digital-only Live from Red Rocks. You’d have to look pretty far and wide to find anyone in music who has been as consistently good or eternally enjoyable as Miranda Lambert. Almost 20 years into her run, she’s defined her career by always going her own way, both musically and lyrically. Her ninth solo set was recorded in her native Texas with help from peers and longtime collaborators like Brent Cobb, Natalie Hemby, and Jack Ingram, and the album’s co-producer Jon Randall. Postcards From Texas doesn’t have as many genre swerves as Lambert sometimes delivers.

The annual Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival returns to San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park from October 4th-6th, 2024. The three-day event features 70 artists performing across six stages, and the best part is that it’s completely free to attend.
Sleater-Kinney, Mavis Staples, and Patti Smith lead this year’s lineup, which also boasts sets from the likes of Emmylou Harris, Yo La Tengo, Jessica Pratt, Cunningham Bird (Madison Cunningham and Andrew Bird) performing Buckingham Nicks, Cat Power (singing a set of Bob Dylan covers), Glen Hansard, Devandra Banhart, Ibibio Sound Machine, Levitation Room, Greensky Bluegrass.
There will also be collaborative sets, songwriter circles, and jam sessions galore. In addition to Cat Power singing Dylan and Cunningham Bird, Kelly Willis, Chuck Prophet, Ismay, and Steve Earle will honor the catalogue of Lucinda Williams, Aoife O’Donovan will perform with Hawktail and the San Francisco Girls Choir, and Steve Earle will play a...

A new tribute album to David Olney puts the late songwriter’s poetic lyrics in the hands of artists like Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, and Mary Gauthier. Can’t Steal My Fire: The Songs of David Olney will be released Oct. 18 via New West Records.
Ahead of the album’s release, two songs are available now: a rare live recording of Townes Van Zandt, who ranked Olney alongside Mozart, Lightnin’ Hopkins, and Bob Dylan, singing “Illegal Cargo,” and the Steeldrivers’ version of “If My Eyes Were Blind.”

The Bear season 2 soundtrack features an impressive selection of 1990s rock hits and older classics, as well as modern songs and Christmas classics. Each episode of The Bear season 2 is accompanied by an expansive and diverse soundtrack that enhances the tension and subplots of the characters. Songs from bands like Pearl Jam, R.E.M., Counting Crows, and The Smashing Pumpkins contribute to the overall success and elevated experience of The Bear season 2.

When Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell heard about plans for country greats like Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, George Strait, Chris Stapleton, and Dierks Bentley to honor the band’s music on the covers collection Petty Country: A Country Music Celebration of Tom Petty, he felt it made perfect sense, even though they were a rock band at their core.

Jeremy Tepper, who relentlessly championed the outlaw country genre by highlighting both its revered icons and rebellious upstarts in his role as program director for SiriusXM’s “Outlaw Country” channel, died Friday. Tepper’s wife, the singer-songwriter Laura Cantrell, announced his death of a heart attack in New York City. He was 60.
Tepper was a gregarious, ubiquitous presence in the country, Americana, and rock universe, seemingly always in the crowd or backstage at concerts and festivals, from the Luck Reunion at Willie Nelson’s ranch in Spicewood, Texas, to the Americana Music Festival in Nashville,...

Jeremy Tepper, who helped grow so-called “outlaw” country music into an industry force, died Friday night of a heart attack in Jackson Heights, New York. He was 60.
“I am heartbroken to share the news of the passing of my husband, Jeremy Tepper, who died suddenly today of a heart attack here in Jackson Heights,” said a post from his wife, Laura Cantrell, on Facebook. “Jeremy was an amazing, unique person, a loving father, son, brother, and friend who was close with so many of you, especially his many friends in the music world. We will share more soon about plans to celebrate his life, but we are devastated by this unimaginable loss and ask for privacy and time to grieve.
Tepper was the program director for SiriusXM’s Outlaw Country channel since 2004, and also helmed the Willie Nelson-centric “Willie’s Roadhouse” and the “Road Dog Trucking” channel, devoted to that industry.

Nashville – I recently had the extraordinary opportunity to attend a performance at The Listening Room Cafe, where I was treated to an unforgettable evening featuring the “Next from Nashville” lineup. The showcase was nothing short of exceptional. Amidst this lineup of talent, one performer truly stood out to me … Zandi Holup.
Zandi Holup and the other performers had acoustic guitars in hand and standing microphones as their sole companions, inviting the audience into their world of music with nothing but their instruments and voices, bridging the gap between performer and listener. All the performers sang original music, effortlessly captivating the audience with soul-stirring melodies and heartfelt lyrics.

Zandi’s profoundly felt vocals carried an aura of authenticity that immediately drew me in. With a style characterized by raw, unfiltered storytelling, Zandi’s music seemed to flow effortlessly from a deep well of personal emotion and introspective thoughts.

American icon Willie Nelson shows no signs of slowing down, as he begins his 91st trip around the sun.
The nonagenarian has a new album called “The Border” set for a May 31 release (the title track and single “Made In Texas” are out now), and he will once again be headlining his Outlaw Music Festival tour this Summer, following sets by artists such as Bob Dylan, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss and more.

Dolly Parton honored Tom Petty with a gorgeous cover of his 1985 song, “Southern Accents,” which will appear on the upcoming tribute compilation Petty Country: A Country Music Celebration of Tom Petty.
“Southern Accents” is a tender ballad about Southern roots and a down-on-his luck Florida orange-picker. Parton stays faithful to the original, adding her own country twang, and juicing the poignancy further with a music video filled with old archival footage of Petty.

Dolly Parton has revealed her reimagined rendition of Tom Petty’s song “Southern Accents” for the forthcoming compilation, Petty Country: A Country Music Celebration of Tom Petty.
The song features a prologue delivered by the late Tom Petty himself describing how the moment of inspiration that led to “Southern Accents.” Dolly Parton then provides an emotional, stirring rendition of the song, kept at the same balladeer tempo as Petty’s original. She retains much of the song, though she adds a crucial change to the song’s latter third when belting “Yes I’m proud to be what I am/ A southern girl from a southern town/ I ain’t ashamed, I ain’t ashamed, I ain’t ashamed.”

Joan Baez has kept a relatively low public profile since wrapping up her Fare Thee Well tour in 2019, performing only on special occasions. One of those took place Monday night at the annual Tibet House benefit at New York’s Carnegie Hall, where she topped a bill that included Maggie Rogers, Laurie Anderson, Maya Hawke, the Philip Glass Ensemble, Tenzin Choegyal, and the Scorchio Quartet.

To mark what would have been David Bowie’s 77th birthday today, Wilco have shared their live rendition of the music icon’s “Space Oddity.”
The cover was recorded during the band’s visit to Mountain Stage, NPR Music, and West Virginia Public Broadcasting’s long-running live radio show and features as the opening track on an upcoming compilation highlighting performances from the series.
“As a gratefully, if not begrudgingly, Earth-bound band, it’s always an honor and a challenge to tackle any of David Bowie’s space-soaring arrangements,” Wilco said in a statement.

Monday, January 8th, would’ve been David Bowie’s 77th birthday. To mark the occasion, Wilco has shared their rendition of Bowie’s 1969 hit, “Space Oddity.”
The release hails from Wilco’s 2023 performance on Mountain Stage (a public radio show distributed by NPR Music), and will be included on an upcoming compilation announced today titled Live On Mountain Stage: Outlaws and Outliers, due on April 19th via Oh Boy Records.
Presenting a wonderfully Wilco-esque take on “Space Oddity” — itself named the 43rd best song of all time by Consequence in 2012 — the band settles into an acoustic arrangement, allowing Jeff Tweedy’s vocals to masterfully convey the tune’s enduring appeal for humanity.
Speaking about the performance in a statement, the band said: “As a gratefully, if not begrudgingly, Earth-bound band, it’s always an honor and a challenge to tackle any of David Bowie’s space-soaring arrangements. Striving to reach...

Every April growing up in East Texas, Vincent Neil Emerson and his family traveled to Louisiana for their tribe’s annual powwow. For that one weekend of the year, the future singer-songwriter was immersed in the culture of his mother’s people, the Choctaw-Apache. He was dazzled by the spectacle of the dances, the drums and song, which were performed, at times, in traditional regalia, jewelry, and beadwork.
Those memories were seared into his mind.
“It’s always been a huge part of my life. It’s how I was raised,...

On Monday, The Voice’s Season 24 Blind Auditions hit a high note — like, a Mariah Carey whistle note, that high. But the singer who delivered such an ear-opener to coaches John Legend, Gwen Stefani, Niall Horan and Reba McEntire wasn’t the night’s only standout. Read on, and after we discuss all of the contestants who advanced to the Battles, you can vote for your favorite.

Three years ago, Margo Cilker was starting to struggle. “To paint the picture,” she says, “I was in a super-weird place.”
Living in rural Eastern Oregon, the singer-songwriter had spent the better part of the previous year trying to find a label to release Pohorylle, the debut album that she’d poured her heart into, but nothing was taking. She’d also been unable to tour for the past six months due to the pandemic, so Cilker was taking the time to reflect on it all: the years she’d...

Since his 2019 Double Down Tour, Eric Church has upended the traditional country music live show, doing away with opening acts and choosing instead to carry the night himself by delivering three-hour concerts split into two sets. But for this year’s Outsiders Revival Tour, he was inspired by his own playlist to curate a diverse group of legends, buzz artists, and up-and-comers to join him on the road.

Oft-remembered for soundtracking “Valley Girl” with the classic cut “A Million Miles Away,” singer-songwriter Peter Case has a worldwide following, but veteran followers of the Los Angeles music scene may have spent the last 40 years or so trying to solve a puzzle about him. The riddle: When Case was a master of Beatlesque power-pop in his role as frontman of the Plimsouls, one of the great L.A. bands of the early ‘80s, was that the real him? Or is he an ageless acoustic-folkie who accidentally got swept up in rock’s new wave on the way to the hootenanny? Because, even with decades of hindsight, fans may still have a problem reconciling these two primary identities as being the same guy.
This is where documentaries like “Peter Case: A Million Miles Away” become valuable, taking on performers who’ve gone through reinventions without attraction elaborate media attention. In Case’s case,...

As the WGA strike entered its fourth week, Tony Kushner swore, Steve Earle sang, Wanda Sykes led union chants and Busy Philipps told CEO jokes for more than 1,000 demonstrators and hundreds of onlookers who filled the street in front of NBCUniversal headquarters Tuesday in Midtown Manhattan.
With a starry speakers list, celebrities dotting the crowd and turnout from several local labor unions, a “Rally at the Rock” outside 30 Rockefeller Plaza in support of striking movie and television writers filled one barricaded side of West 49th Street between 5th and 6th avenues — the equivalent of three city blocks — with cheering, sign-waving protestors who stayed for more than two hours. It was the largest turnout for any event organized by members of the Writers Guild of America East since the strike against film and television producers began May 2, a WGA representative told Deadline.

Marijuana remains illegal in the state of Tennessee, where presently only low-thc products skirt the state’s confusing and hyper-restrictive laws. But that nugget didn’t stop legislators from making a country song about a Vietnam veteran who takes up pot farming Tennessee’s newest state song. That this all happened on 4/20 — the national holiday of weed smoking — is the chef’s kiss.

Texas country-punk band Vandoliers are standing in solidarity with drag performers and the LGBTQ+ community. On Thursday night, the group performed their set at the Shed in Maryville, Tennessee, with all six of its members wearing dresses in protest of the state’s newly enacted law on public drag performance.
“Fuck a drag bill,” they wrote in an Instagram post. “Gonna auction off the dresses we wore onstage in Tennessee tonight and donate the money to a couple of LGBTQ charities in this state.”

The Outlaw Country Cruise 7 set sail this month from Miami with a wild, crazy, and mostly tattooed cast of musical pirates aboard. Perennial cruisers Steve Earle, the Mavericks, Lucinda Williams, and Elizabeth Cook joined new blood like Mike and the Moonpies, Vandoliers, and Joshua Ray Walker for five days of concerts, interviews, and all-star jams curated by Sixthman, Renegade Circus, and SiriusXM’s Outlaw Country. Here’s what it looked like aboard the Norwegian Pearl.

When Justin Townes Earle died at 38 in 2020, the Americana world was robbed of one of its brightest talents, a songwriter able to distill sadness, aspiration, and an undercurrent of alienation into vibrant, well-crafted folk songs. On Wednesday night in Nashville, those songs were brought back to vivid life during a year-delayed tribute concert to Justin.
