Nicoletta Ercole began her career in 1974 as assistant costume designer for Oscar winner Piero Tosi in the film "Per le antiche scale" by Mauro Bolognini and then in the film "L'Innocente" directed by Luchino Visconti. She started as Costume Designer in 1977 in the movie "Tentacles" starring John Huston,Shelley Winters,Henry Fonda ,then she worked with Michael Ritchie in "Cannes Games" with Keith Carradine and Monica Vitti. She has also a long collaboration with the director Marco Ferreri in 13 of his movies, starring Marcello Mastroianni, Ben Gazzara, Gerard Depardieu, Isabelle Huppert, Hanna Schygulla, Christopher Lambert,Ornella Muti,Michele Piccoli and Sergio Castellitto. She signed the costumes of Roberto Benigni's movie "Tu mi turbi".
She worked also with James Cameron in the film "Piranha" in 1984.She collaborated with Gabriele Muccino for "The Last Kiss" and in several commercials.She worked also with Francis Ford Coppola in "The White Sheikh", and with Oscar winner Giuseppe Tornatore in "la Sconosciuta".She designed the costumes for director Richard Loncraine in "My House in Umbria" starring Maggie Smith,Chris Cooper,Timothy Spall,Giancarlo Giannini and Ronnie Barker. In 2002 she signed the costumes of "Under the Tuscan Sun" directed by Audrey Wells starring Diane Lane and Sandra Ho, and she worked in "Letters to Juliet" directed by Gary Winnik starring Vanessa Redgrave,Amanda Seyfried, Christopher Egan and Gael Garcia Bernal. In 2017 she created the costumes for a fantasy movie "Wonderwell" directed by Vlad Marsavin,starring Carrie Fisher,Rita Ora and Vincent Spano.In 2018/2019 she worked for a long tv Series "Kingdoms of Fire" directed by Peter Webber.
As Associated Costume Designer she collaborated with Milena Canonero in the movie "Only You" directed by Norman Jewison starring Robert Downey jr and Marisa Tomei and in 1999 in "Titus" directed by Julie Taymor starring Anthony Hopkins and Jessica Lange nominated for Best Costume Designer at Accademy Awards.
Nicoletta Ercole has nominated in 2003 Emmy Awards Best Costumes for "My house in Umbria", she also received 6 nominations of David di Donatello Awards for Best Costume Designer and 7 nominations Silver Ribbons Awards for Best Costume Designer. In 2008 she wins Aphrodite Awards as Best Costume Designer. In 2013 she wins Piero Tosi Awards as Best Costume Designer and in 2015 she wins "A life for Cinema awards" as Best Costume Designer.
Nicoletta Ercole has enrolled at the ISTITUTO EUROPEO DI DESIGN (IED) from 2013 to 2017 and is the ideator and responsible for the Master COSTUME DESIGN. She is currently inscribed at the Design European University of Pescara as responsible and ideator of the Master Costume Designer. She is the Consulant Artistic Director of the Festival dei Due Mondi di Spoleto from 2007 to 2018. From 1991 to 1997 she has collaborated as Bulgari Consulant for the Cinema and Exhibitions set-up.
