- Born in Germany and raised in Wales and New Zealand.
- She took a break from her career to nurse her mother, who died in 1983. She supports disabled people and their carers.
- Pam's family emigrated to New Zealand when she was age 13.
- She was born in Hanover, Lower Saxony, Germany, as her father was involved in the denazification process. Her father, Frederick (Fred) John Ferris, was from Swindon, Wiltshire, England, and her mother, Ann Ethel (Perkins), was from Bridgend, Glamorganshire, Wales. Her father served in the Royal Air Force. When the family moved to Wales, settling in the Aberkenfig area, near Bridgend, her father was a policeman and her mother worked in her family's bakery business.
- I was obsessed with work in my youth. It's why I didn't get married until I was 38 and the reason I didn't have kids. Not having children isn't a sadness in my life, though. I know I wouldn't have been a half-bad mother, but that's what happened. There's no regretting it.
