The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (Bafta) has revealed its 2019 intake of new members drawn from the film, TV and games industry.

Among the record 558 new members are filmmakers and writers Haifaa al-Mansour (Wadjda), Laszlo Nemes (Son Of Saul), Lynne Ramsay (You Were Never Really Here), Lee Unkrich (Coco) and former Screen Star of Tomorrow Rose Glass (Saint Maud).

Charlize Theron has been set to receive the 33rd American Cinematheque Award, the honor bestowed annually by the nonprofit arts organization to honor an “extraordinary filmmaker in the entertainment industry who is fully engaged in his or her work and is committed to making a significant contribution to the art of the motion picture.”

This year’s ceremony is set for November 8 at the Beverly Hilton. A second honor, the yet-to-be-announced Sid Grauman Award, will be presented the same evening. The gala benefit raises funds for year-round programming of the Cinematheque.

Charlize Theron — the Oscar-winner for “Monster,” star of “Mad Max: Fury Road” and this year’s “Long Shot” — will receive the 33rd Annual American Cinematheque Award, the organization announced Monday.

Theron’s colleagues and friends will present her with the prize at a gala ceremony, formerly known as the Moving Picture Ball, on Nov. 8 at The Beverly Hilton. A second honor, the Sid Grauman Award, will also be presented that evening. That winner is yet to be announced.

The World War II tale "Inglourious Basterds" and the Rome-set musical "Nine," both releases from the Weinstein Co., led the list of nominees for the Broadcast Film Critics Assn.'s 15th annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards, announced early Monday, with ten nominations each.

The 3-D sci-fi film "Avatar" followed close behind with nine noms, while "The Hurt Locker" and "Up in the Air" received eight nominations each.

The awards, which will be handed out on Jan. 15 at ceremonies broadcast from the Hollywood Palladium by Vh-1, expanded this year from 17 to 25 categories, adding seven technical categories and separating its screenplay category into original and adapted slots.

Since the critics group also includes genre categories like best action movie and best comedy as well as awards for best acting ensemble and best young actor/actress, that opened the door for plenty of multiple nominations.

Samuel L. Jackson will receive the 23rd American Cinematheque Award on Dec. 1 at the Beverly Hilton's International Ballroom in Beverly Hills.

Presented annually to "an extraordinary artist in the entertainment industry currently making a significant contribution to the art of the moving picture," the award is given to a filmmaker in midcareer. But in the case of Washington -- who this year captured the best actor Oscar for his work in Training Day and who is making his directorial debut with Fox Searchlight's Antwone Fisher, to be released Dec. 20 -- the lavish tributes that rained down on him at the fund-raising dinner that benefits the American Cinematheque made it clear that in his case no midcareer course correction is necessary. "There is only one actor in the course of his career thus far who can be appropriately and righteously compared to Henry Fonda, Robert Mitchum, Humphrey Bogart, Clark Gable -- as well as Sidney Poitier," Tom Hanks, Washington's Philadelphia co-star, said in presenting him with the award.
