When Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. introduced the Inhuman Lash in season 3, the show began unraveling the mystery of why Lash killed his fellow Inhumans. Though Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. began as a spin-off of the McU's Avengers, it started to diverge from the MCU in season 2. That’s when the series began to heavily feature Inhuman characters, some from Marvel comics, and some created for the show. The Inhumans were initially introduced through Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennett), formerly known as Skye in the first season of the series.
In the comics, Inhumans are those of Kree-human lineage that were experimented on in the ancient days of Earth. Their descendants exhibited different abilities and superpowers. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. adapted the Inhuman idea for the screen. People who previously believed themselves human found themselves with new powers after touching crystals that enveloped them in a transformative cocoon - a process known as terrigenesis. Inhumans...

After four seasons of playing the stoic-yet-heroic Melinda May on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Ming-Na Wen finally got to visit the dark side -- and she loved it!
“It’s so fun being evil,” the actress gushed to Et’s Leanne Aguilera during a recent Facebook Live. “I’m just realizing that everybody likes the bad guys. It’s so weird, they love us being evil!”
Wen’s character is one of the agents who took a dark turn in S.H.I.E.L.D.’s third and final “pod” of episodes this season, thanks to the Framework -- an alternate, virtual reality constructed by Dr. Radcliffe (John Hannah) and perfected by his android assistant, Aida (Mallory Jansen), who quickly overtook her human master to seize the reins of the fabricated world.
“Aida has taken one regret out of each of our characters, and you would think that would help to make these characters have a...

As I was prepping this week’s Agents Of Shield review, I was getting ready to carp about what a generic, nothing villain The Superior is. As Season 4’s “Ghost Rider” arc came to a close, two agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. finally cracked open that bottle of Haig, sharing extra-warm, knowing smiles across the rims of their Old Fashioned glasses.

Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. delivers one of its best episodes to date with season 3’s Spacetime, full of snazzy powers and big confrontations..
This review contains spoilers
3.15 Spacetime
When I saw the premise for this episode – essentially 'Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. does Minority Report' – I was a bit sceptical. Could 45 minutes do justice to a sci-fi concept as massive as precognition? I was worried that the idea may come across as cheesy, like it did in Men In Black 3. Or, worse still, that it would throw up the type of timey-wimey plot holes that always incur internet backlash.
But, I’m glad to report that my doubts were unnecessary. Spacetime – thanks to a ballsy script by the showrunners, and confident direction from the oft-impressive Kevin Tancharoen - felt like one of the most imaginative and well-engineered Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. instalments to date.

Please note: This article contains spoilers for Marvel's Agents of Shield S3 E2, 'Purpose in the Machine'. If you're not watching the show, then either a) What?! You must be crazy (joking!) or b) You've obviously missed an episode due to whatever reason (in which case, I'm so sorry), and are now waiting for viewing options to become available so that you can get back into it (but rest assured, it's worth the wait).
This episode was written by D.J. Doyle, who plays with many themes that will be music to the ears of any analytically-minded fans. This is my jam. Delicious food for thought.
Anyway, now that we've got enough puns out of the way to keep Brett Dalton happy should he ever read this, let's get analysing. (To reference Doctor Horrible's Sing-a-Long Blog: It's hi-yo, thematic analysis! (Signed Bad Horse.))

On this show, death comes in two forms: permanent and temporary. The latter was built into the show's very first episode, which brought Agent Coulson back to life after his untimely demise in The Avengers. Since then, some of the show's most memorable characters have shuffled off this mortal coil, then shuffled right back again. Mike Peterson purportedly died before he became the technology-enhanced assassin Deathlok. Agent Koenig was killed off, except Patton Oswalt came back as several of Koenig's identical twin brothers. Just a few episodes ago, Andrew Garner seemed to die in a convenience store explosion, only to return as the Inhuman Lash. The permanent kind of death much harder to undo — and unfortunately, it seems that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. won't have a reprieve for Rosalind Price, the Atcu leader played by Constance Zimmer. Rosalind's murder at the hands of Ward isn't merely surprising because it's the death...

The gang confronted Lash in this week’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., Chaos Theory, with mixed results…
This review contains spoilers.
3.7 Chaos Theory
“Chaos Theory,” the actual scientific thing, is the posh term for the butterfly effect. No, not the Ashton Kutcher movie. Chaos Theory is the idea that one tiny thing in the past could have huge ramifications in the future. It’s a bit more complicated than that, granted, but my B in Gcse science can only take this introduction so far.
In the context of this episode, the title Chaos Theory most likely refers to the relationship between the flashbacks and the main story. Blair Underwood’s loveable psychiatrist character Andrew Garner opened a book six months ago after returning from holiday. Today, as a result, he’s a monstrous beast with a serious bloodlust towards certain Inhumans. Oops!
One thing that isn’t chaotic is this week's script,...

There are two kinds of great TV episodes. One kind, like this season's Simmons-centric "4,722 Hours," is bold enough to break format and do something totally different from any episode before. The other kind is less flashy, but just as effective: an episode that follows a TV show's boilerplate format to the letter, but pulls it off with unusual intelligence, grace, and strength. This week's "Chaos Theory" is one of the latter. On paper, there's nothing that separates this episode from your average Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. outing — but the execution makes all the difference. "Chaos Theory" feels like the culmination of everything Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has accomplished so far this year, building a thoughtful and emotionally wrenching narrative out of three pairs of star-crossed lovers: Melinda May and Dr. Andrew Garner, Fitz and Simmons, and Agent Coulson and Rosalind Price. It doesn't get much more dramatic than May's relationship with...

Last week's format-breaking stunner "4,722 Hours" was one of the all-time-great Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episodes, so "Among Us Hide …" felt a little like following up a perfectly cooked steak with a fast food hamburger. It's not exactly bad, just a little underwhelming — one of the season's clunkier episodes, centered on a pair of divergent missions that never quite coalesce.I suspect that when we look back at the end of the season, only one thing about "Among Us Hide …" will truly pop: the revelation that Dr. Andrew Garner is Lash, the spiky-head Inhuman who has been running around killing other Inhumans all season. It's another devastating betrayal for a team that has endured plenty of them, and the consequences will likely be far-reaching: for May, who was once married to Andrew; for Coulson, who counts Andrew among his most trusted confidantes; and for Daisy, who has unwittingly been...

Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s fiftieth episode highlights how far the show has come, truly earning that Marvel Studios logo…

Don’t be put off by the cheesy ellipsis in the episode title - this week’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. was something rather special. As the 50th instalment of Marvel Studios’ flagship television project, Among Us Hide… was one of the best episodes yet. And it’s definitely among the most Marvel-y.
To truly earn that iconic red and white studio tag at the start of each episode, Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. needs to be a lot of things at once. It needs to have engaging characters, quips that are actually funny, fights that look cool, dashings of heartfelt emotionality when the time is right, and some sense of inhabiting a universe filled with superheroes. I'll say this for this week's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: At least Coulson got called out for his recklessness. In an episode that saw the S.H.I.E.L.D. director risk his entire team on a million-to-one shot to recover a long-lost agent — and simultaneously send Hunter into the wild, with an apparently unlimited budget and a license to kill Grant Ward — it took a voice as rational and sober as Andrew Garner, the team's psychologist, to call him out. "Desperation leads to mistakes," says Garner. "These are questionable decisions."It's an astute piece of judgment — and if "Purpose in the Machine" were a sharper episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Garner's fears might come to pass. Instead, the episode ends in a moment of totally unearned triumph, with bad decision after bad decision resulting in nothing but good news for everyone involved. Time and time again,...

Hot off the heels of the arrival of former Entourage star, Constance Zimmer, Variety have confirmed that Blair Underwood will return to Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. for Season 3. Underwood will reprise his role as 'Dr. Andrew Garner', Agent Melinda May's ex-husband. A former therapist for S.H.I.E.L.D., Andrew turned his back on the agency in the wake of Hydra's uprising. However, he recently consulted for Coulson's team after the emergence of Skye's abilities. Underwood appeared in four episodes of the Marvel/ABC show last season. So far, there's no word on whether or not he'll be returning in a larger capacity, but it's a safe bet he'll play a key role in the Secret Warriors plotline set to dominate S.H.I.E.L.D.'s third season. Are you happy to see Andrew return? As always, be sure to sound off in the comments below!

Agents of Shield, Season 2, Episode 13: “One Of Us”
Written by Monica Owuso-Breen
Directed by Kevin Tancharoen
Airs Tuesdays at 9pm (Et) on ABC
“One Of Us” is an episode that improves on repeat viewings. Like “Who You Really Are”, this is not a perfect episode, and has one really bothersome plot hole, but some enjoyable characters get a chance to shine. May gets substantial back-story with her ex-husband Dr. Andrew Garner, played by Blair Underwood. Cal is back with a vengeance, and some powerful psychos at his side. Bobbi kicks butt all over the place. Plot hole or not, “One Of Us” is still a really fun episode, with a lot to recommend.
First off, the bothersome plot hole is Hunter disappearing from the team and nobody being that concerned, especially Coulson. Hunter is handcuffed to a sink, and Mack and Bobbi are the only ones who know where he is.
