More stars are joining Saturday Night Live’s milestone celebration.

SNL50: The Red Carpet — a kickoff special airing live across NBC, E! and Peacock on Sunday night ahead of the main event SNL50: The Anniversary Special — has booked hosts Willie Geist and Leslie Jones and correspondent Matt Rogers to appear. It kicks off at 7 p.m. Et/4 p.m. Pt and will feature red-carpet interviews with many of the bold-faced name guests attending the anniversary special.

“Saturday Night Live” is bringing Studio 8H to Radio City Music Hall with a three-hour, livestreamed concert on Feb. 14, in celebration of the sketch comedy series’ 50th anniversary.

Jimmy Fallon will host the event, which boasts a lineup including Lady Gaga, Bad Bunny, Miley Cyrus, Backstreet Boys and Post Malone. Mumford & Sons, Jack White, David Byrne, Robyn, Eddie Vedder, Devo, Brittany Howard, Chris Martin, Bonnie Raitt, Brandi Carlile, Jelly Roll, the B-52s, Preservation Hall Jazz Band and the Roots will also perform, alongside more recent additions Cher, Dave Grohl, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Snoop Dogg, St. Vincent and Wyclef Jean.

Former “SNL” cast members Ana Gasteyer, Andy Samberg, Maya Rudolph, Tracy Morgan and Will Ferrell will make special appearances, alongside Paul Schaffer and other surprise guests.

Before Mark Wahlberg confronted Andy Samberg on an episode of Saturday Night Live, he let the world know he wasn’t happy about Samberg’s impression. “I’m going to crack that big fucking nose of his,” Walhberg told Jimmy Kimmel in 2008. “Then I’m going to tell him, ‘Say hi to your mother for me.’”

Martha Stewart could’ve hosted Saturday Night Live after she spent time behind bars.

The entrepreneur and television host said that she was invited to host SNL in 2005 after spending give months in prison for lying about a stock trade but her parole officer stopped her from doing the show.

“I wanted to and they asked me as I was coming out of Alderson — that camp that I was in for a while,” Stewart joked on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. “And my parole officer wouldn’t give me the time to do it.”

Stewart noted that she was only allowed to be out of her house eight hours a day.

“The parole officer said, no?” Fallon asked Stewart which prompted her response, “No, that bastard!”

Stewart added that she still had the name and number of her parole officer, adding, “I’m so pissed,” about not being able to do it.

For many celebrities, there's a relatively small window in which they are considered for hosting Saturday Night Live. One celebrity had that window slammed shut, not by SNL, Lorne Michaels, or the network, but by their parole officers.

Television personality Martha Stewart revealed Lorne Michaels asked her to host Saturday Night Live in 2005. The SNL boss likely wanted to capitalize on the timing, as Stewart had just been released from serving five months in prison for a fraud conviction.

"I wanted to, and they asked me as I was coming out of Alderson, that camp I was in for a while,” Stewart said on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “And my parole officer wouldn’t give me the time to do it … That bastard! I still have his name and his number.”

According to Stewart, the parameters of her parole limited her time outside of the house to eight hours per day.

Martha Stewart has obviously had a very successful career, changing the way we view both the lifestyle industry and the Comedy Central roast industry.

But despite all of her accomplishments and undeniable cultural contributions, the 83-year-old star has never once hosted Saturday Night Live. But that doesn’t mean that she hasn’t been invited to host. The two-time Tony-winning actress celebrated the opening night of Center Theatre Group’s production of the musical on Friday (December 13) at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles.

Sutton was joined on the red carpet by her co-stars Michael Urie and Ana Gasteyer, who also are reprising their roles from the Broadway production.

A concert production of Once Upon a Mattress, with a new book adaptation from Amy Sherman-Palladino, was originally staged as part of the New York City Center Encores! series in January 2024. Before Laraine Newman brought it to Saturday Night Live, the valley girl accent was relatively obscure, really only known to Southern Californians as the way surfers spoke. As an L.A. native, though, Newman was very familiar with it, and so, she used it for inspiration for a character she developed named Sherry, a rambling, airheaded blonde who loved to talk about her “bitchin’ bod.”

She originally performed the character at The Groundlings, but she took Sherry — and the valley girl dialect — national when she became an original “Not Ready for Prime Time Player” in 1975 (in a sketch about group therapy that also included Don Corleone). In turn, Sherry became one of Newman’s best-known SNL characters. But because Newman never wanted to repeat herself, she only did Sherry for about a year, a decision which, 50 years later, she’s still unsure about.

There will be no decision today on Sean “Diddy” Combs’ latest request for bail.

After a contentious two-hour hearing in New York City, a federal judge has told both the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the defense team that he wants more clarification of how Combs has been communicating from behind bars in the two months since his arrest on sex trafficking charges. Judge Arun Subramanian also wants to know from both sides exactly what forms of communication Combs is allowed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

The feds and the defense have until noon Et on November 25 to submit the information. A decision from Subramanian could come before Thanksgiving.

A few writers noted Combs‘ request and instead, suggested: “Wouldn’t it be so funny if Ron just went in?” The “Ron” the writers were referring to is Will Ferrell, who was in costume as his character “Ron” from the “Mango” sketches.

“Saturday Night Live” alum Ana Gasteyer reflected on her six-year stint on the show on the latest episode of Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers’ “Las Culturistas” podcast, recalling a time when her fellow cast member Will Ferrell interrupted Sean “Diddy” Combs’ closed rehearsal as part of a bit.

Gasteyer was on “SNL” from 1996 to 2002, where she overlapped with Ferrell, Molly Shannon, Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, Maya Rudolph and others. She’s best known for being part of the “Schweddy Balls” sketch alongside Shannon and Alec Baldwin, as well as her recurring Culps skit with Ferrell.

Gasteyer told current “SNL” player Yang and Rogers that the cast at that time had several recurring bits, including one where Ferrell repurposed his Jerry Reed costume to imitate a crew member named Rob, who had recently been fired by the director of the show’s pre-taped segments. The Saturday Night Live alum recently recalled the May 9, 1998 episode of the NBC sketch comedy show, for which a high-maintenance Diddy served as the musical guest, demanding “a totally closed set” during his rehearsal.

At first glance, “Martha Stewart’s Home for the Holidays” appeared to be a promo for a regular Martha Stewart special — until the subtitle popped up that read, “Topless Christmas Special.” From there, Stewart did a variety of normal, Martha Stewart-type things, like setting a holiday table and making beeswax candles. The only difference was that she was nude from the waist up, with a black censor bar covering her breasts.

The way the sketch began was that Ana Gasteyer was looking to do a sketch with Martha Stewart.

Organized by Broadway For Harris and produced by James Wesley Jackson, Seth Rudetsky, Bruce Cohen, Robb Nanus and Jeff Metzler, the Broadway Rallies evening event will be directed by Schele Williams with music direction by Rudetsky, the co-creator and co-host with Wesley Jackson of Stars in the House. The evening will include musical performances and “energizing calls-to-action” by celebrities, Broadway leaders and other surrogates.

In addition to the above-named talent, the roster so far also includes Ana Gasteyer, Anne Hathaway, Arielle Jacobs, Chasten Buttigieg, Erika Henningsen, Isabelle McCalla, Judy Kuhn, Lilli Cooper, Rosie Perez, Shaina Taub and Wilson Cruz.

Broadway for Harris is a volunteer, grassroots coalition of industry professionals and theater enthusiasts united to elect Harris, Walz and down-ballot Democratic candidates this November. Its mission is to “increase voter participation in key swing districts, produce fundraising events featuring the talents of the Broadway community and work together toward a brighter, more hopeful, more equitable future for the country under the historic leadership of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.”

With an initial organizing committee of more than 80 industry leaders, including current and former Broadway performers, producers, writers, musicians, directors, choreographers, marketing specialists, artists, stage managers, crew and other professionals from within the Broadway community, Broadway for Harris works to activate the theater community and fans for volunteer activities including phone banking, canvassing, social media outreach and special fundraising events.

To date, Broadway for Harris has rallied hundreds of volunteers and made more than 150,000 calls and knocked on more than 11,000 doors in Pennsylvania swing districts.

Broadway is raising its curtains for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.

Broadway Rallies for Kamala will take place in New York City on Oct. 14 and features stars of the stage and screen.

As for Conan O'Brien, he also banned a prominent Hollywood name. Though in fairness to Conan, the ban didn't last and the actor admits to spiraling at the time.

The fun news that Saturday Night Live hired three new comics yesterday was dampened by another casting surprise — the departure of last year’s new featured player, Chloe Troast. While few were surprised by the exits of Punkie Johnson (she had struggled to break through for four seasons) and Molly Kearney, Troast showed tremendous promise in sketches that featured her powerful singing voice and offbeat comic sensibilities.
