Did Leonardo DiCaprio Consume Raw Bison Liver For The Revenant? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
When it comes to dedication, Leonardo DiCaprio doesn’t mess around. For The Revenant (2015), the actor used the complete method to portray Hugh Glass, a 19th-century frontiersman on a grueling quest for survival and revenge. Among his many challenges? Eating a raw bison liver on camera—a choice that wasn’t in the original plan. Although the props team had prepared a jelly liver replica, DiCaprio felt it lacked authenticity.
So, after clearing it with his legal team, he bit into the real deal. “The membrane is like a balloon,” DiCaprio shared later as per Variety. He described the burst of the organ’s raw innards as unforgettable—and unpleasant. Director Alejandro González Iñárritu wasn’t initially thrilled about the disease risk but eventually admitted it added a visceral truth to the performance. The liver wasn’t the only hurdle.

Michael Mann has confirmed he is getting close to completing his screenplay for Heat 2 and that it will be his next movie, in a conversation at Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Film Festival on Monday.
“We have to have it finished very soon,” he said, suggesting jokingly he would be doing that on “The plane ride back to Los Angeles.”
The director said after Heat 2, he wanted to make his previously mooted movie about the 1968 Battle of Hué, one of the bloodiest chapters of the Vietnam War in which the forces of South Vietnam and U.S troops recaptured the city of Hué over one month of brutal urban fighting.
Questioned on the continuing cult status of the original Heat movie as the 30th anniversary of its release approaches, Mann said he was not surprised by its success and longevity.

With a heady dose of ‘80s nostalgia and the gravity that only a script full of fierce intergenerational matriarchs can bring to the table, Mexico’s Mayra Hermosillo revealed a cut of her nuanced and buzzy coming-of-age title “Vainilla,” among the players selected for Ventana Sur’s Primer Corte.
The film is produced by Stacy Perskie, Karla Luna Cantú and Andrea Porras Madero at Mexico’s lauded Redrum, with production credits that include Alejandro González Iñárritu’s “Bardo” and Gael Garcia Bernal-fronted Golden Globe winner “Mozart in the Jungle.” Paloma Petra at Nuevo León-based Huasteca Casa Cinematográfica co-produces the project.
“The incredible level of detail in the script and how vividly the world and characters came to life stood out to us. The story felt deeply personal and profoundly moving. Tom Cruise is attached to star in Deeper, a supernatural thriller that Doug Liman has in early development, the filmmaker has revealed.
Liman shared the news with Showbiz411’s Roger Friedman at a recent NYC screening of the documentary Gaucho Gaucho, expressing his interest in crafting a “scary” movie at this stage of his career. “I have never done one,” said the director, “and neither has Tom.”
While reports have suggested that Deeper may be Liman’s next project, whether that’s actually the case is not yet clear. Sources have confirmed to Deadline that the film is currently set up at Warner Bros.
Deeper follows an astronaut who encounters a terrifying force while on a deep dive into a never-before-explored trench. In development for almost a decade, the project was originally set up at MGM in April 2016, following the studio’s acquisition of a hot spec from Max Landis.

Director Doug Liman says he’s making Deeper, a ‘scary’ undersea supernatural thriller, with Tom Cruise as its star.
Director Doug Liman and Tom Cruise have long planned to work together again after collaborating on Edge Of Tomorrow and American Made. And according to a new report, that is still set to happen – just not in the guise we expected. When thinking about a Liman/Cruise collaboration at Warner Bros, a sequel to 2014’s Edge Of Tomorrow might spring to mind – but no, it seems like the duo could be cooking up something different.
Showbiz411’s Roger Friedman (via World of Reel) quotes Doug Liman as saying that his next film will be Deeper, starring Tom Cruise. It’s a project that Warner Bros has reportedly been trying to get off the ground for a decade under the stewardship of several different filmmakers.

Rachel Zegler Pays Heartfelt Tribute To Adam Somner: “He Lifted Me Up And Refused To Let Me Stumble”
Rachel Zegler paid a loving tribute to prolific first assistant director Adam Somner, with whom she worked on Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, following his death ahead of the Thanksgiving weekend.
“i had the honor of making west side story with adam somner when i was seventeen years old,” she began on her Instagram Story. “and with so much grace and love, he lifted me up and refused to let me stumble as i navigated the world of filmmaking. i could not have been in better hands.”
As the Y2K actress mentioned, the musical remake marked her film debut and catapulted her into the spotlight. Since then, the powerhouse singer has taken to Broadway opposite Kit Connor in a revival of Romeo + Juliet, led a prequel to The Hunger Games trilogy and taken on the role of Disney princess with Snow White, due for release in 2025.

Here’s why Leonardo DiCaprio cannot work with Clint Eastwood ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
In 2011, DiCaprio signed on to star in J. Edgar, Eastwood’s biopic about the Og FBI boss, J. Edgar Hoover. Leo was so hyped about the role that he cut his fee from a jaw-dropping $20 million to just $2 million. But this dream team? It didn’t last long.
Why? Eastwood’s infamous “one-take-wonder” style clashed hard with DiCaprio’s perfectionist approach. Clint’s vibe on set is all about keeping it raw and real. He skips the dramatic “Action!” for a laid-back “in your own time” and moves on after one take. Conversely, Leo lives for the grind—he’s all about redoing scenes until they’re flawless. So, when Leo asked for a retake during J. Edgar, Clint said, “Nope, we’re done for the day.”
And it didn’t stop there. DiCaprio insisted on using...

On May 16, 1929, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences handed out its first two Academy Awards for Best Director to Frank Borzage ("7th Heaven") and Lewis Milestone ("Two Arabian Knights"). This was the only year the organization distinguished between drama and comedy, but it would not be the last time either of these men took home the top prize in their field. Milestone would win again in 1930 for his heartbreaking adaptation of "All Quiet on the Western Front," while Borzage, a visual storytelling master whose every film you should absolutely watch, triumphed anew in 1932 with the pre-code classic "Bad Girl."
Throughout the Academy Awards' history, 21 directors have earned more than one Best Director Oscar. 18 have won it twice (Alfonso Cuarón was the most recent filmmaker to join the two-time ranks with "Roma"), while Frank Capra and William Wyler are the only three-time winners.

Exclusive: WTFilms has acquired international sales rights for Ukrainian director and producer Egor Olesov’s timely drama The Daughter set in the early days of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
News of the acquisition comes as Ukraine marks the one thousandth day of the resulting war, which has killed hundreds of thousands, displaced millions and destroyed dozens of once flourishing towns and cities.
The Daughter blends family dynamics with the horrors of war through the story of a 17-year-old, hearing-impaired girl called Olga, who is staying with her father and his new family in the once sleepy town of Bucha outside Kyiv when the Russia invasion of Ukraine begins.
Before the family has time to flee, their home is occupied by Russian soldiers who subject them to a reign of terror including threats of death and rape. Previously at odds with her stepmother, Olga comes to understand she...

Rodrigo Prieto is an acclaimed cinematographer known for his frequent collaborations with Alejandro González Iñárritu and Martin Scorsese. Most recently, he was nominated for an Oscar for his work on Scorsese’s ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’. Now, he has returned with his directorial debut, ‘Pedro Paramo, ‘ which is now streaming on Netflix. The film is based on Juan Rulfo’s same-name novel and it premiered at the 2024 TIFF. It is a magic realist fable mapping the life of the titular character mainly through the eyes of his son. Prieto presents multiple fantastical scenes that feel wonderfully mystical on their own. However, when put together, they do not form anything remotely coherent. So, here’s me trying to make sense of its confusion.

The first “Mission: Impossible 8” trailer is here, and it looks like we could be reaching the end of the road for Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt. The film, which is now titled “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” plays on the nostalgia for the franchise, including footage from the Brian De Palma-directed 1996 “Mission: Impossible” movie that started it all.
Christopher McQuarrie, who has directed every “Mission” movie since “Rogue Nation,” is back in the director’s chair this time around for a sequel that went through a bit of an evolution. Initially, “Mission: Impossible 7” and “Mission: Impossible 8” were shot back-to-back and titled “Dead Reckoning – Part One” and “Dead Reckoning – Part Two.” But after the disappointing box office performance of the seventh film, it was retitled for home release to just “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” and “M:i 8” got a new title. Thus, “The Final Reckoning” was born.

Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio has made it his business to work with the most acclaimed filmmakers of the modern era. The star, whose first real breakout role came on the ABC sitcom “Growing Pains,” has worked with Martin Scorsese no less than six times with the latest being “Killers of the Flower Moon.”. He’s done double-duty with Quentin Tarantino, and made blockbuster films with Best Director winners James Cameron, Clint Eastwood, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, and Steven Spielberg, and nominees Ridley Scott and Adam McKay.
Beginning with 1993’s “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape,” for which he received his first Academy Award nomination at age 19, DiCaprio has earned eight total nominations from the Oscars: seven as an actor — including most recently for “Once Upon a Time In Hollywood,” plus his Best Actor win for “The Revenant” — and one as a producer, for Best Picture nominee “The Wolf of Wall Street.” DiCaprio has...

Leonardo DiCaprio at a film premiere, explaining why he chooses not to do sequels (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Here’s the real reason Leonardo DiCaprio has never starred in a sequel: he’s too good for them. That might sound bold, but let’s be honest—when you’re Leo, your film career is a gallery of stand-alone masterpieces, not a never-ending franchise treadmill. From Titanic to Inception, he’s carefully chosen films that tell unique, self-contained stories—and he’s stuck with that philosophy like a movie buff who refuses to watch the extended director’s cut.
Let’s start with the cold, hard truth: sequels don’t fit DiCaprio’s career plan. In a recent Variety interview, Leo explained, “Every movie I’ve done has been its piece of individual art.” Translation: he’s not into cashing in on sequels to keep a franchise alive. It’s all about that one-time magic.

Mexican cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto has been plying his creative trade in Hollywood for over two decades. His notably instrumental camerawork can be seen in most of Martin Scorsese’s latest works and Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie.” For his directorial debut, Prieto, however, follows in the footsteps of his earlier collaborator, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu. “Pedro Paramo” (2024) is a landmark novel in Latin American literature. One that influenced Gabriel Garcia Marquez to create another, relatively popular, landmark literary work, “One Hundred Years of Solitude.” The novel is one of the early proponents of the artistic phenomenon known as “Magic Realism.”
In “Pedro Paramo,” Juan Preciado (Tenoch Huerta) travels to the abandoned ruins of what once was a bustling town called Comala. Juan was conceived in this place, as this is the place where his father, the eponymous Pedro Paramo (Manuel Garcia Rulfo), lived and ruled. Pedro abandoned Juan’s mother, Dolores (Ishbel Bautista). Judy Greer, Sean Astin, Bryan Cranston and John Goodman have all signed on to star in the upcoming dark comedy feature Chili Finger, with first-timers Edd Benda and Stephen Helstad to co-direct. Helstad wrote the script and Goodman is an executive producer. Additional castmembers Sarah Herrman and Paul Stanko are currently attached, with production slated to begin next spring. The film is produced by Beyond the Porch and Gold Tree Studios.
Chili Finger tells the story of a recently empty-nested mother (Greer) who discovers a human finger in her bowl of fast-food chili. When she blackmails the restaurant for a cash payout, the situation spirals out of control and her life descends into chaos.
So far, Astin, Cranston and Goodman’s characters are being kept under wraps.
“We couldn’t ask for a better cast to bring our quirky dark comedy to the big screen,” said co-directors Benda and Helstad.

Plot details for the sequel and any other creatives are currently unknown at this time.
The late Tony Scott directed Days of Thunder, which followed Tom “as Cole Trickle, a hot-headed rookie stock car driver who joins NASCAR and must overcome personal and professional challenges to achieve success.”

Tom Cruise could be going back to the racetrack.
In the wake of his record breaking success with “Top Gun: Maverick,” Cruise is in early negotiations with Paramount for a sequel to “Days of Thunder,” his 1990 NASCAR drama that, like the first “Top Gun,” was directed by the late Tony Scott and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer (with his late producing partner Don Simpson). No other creatives are in place, and Cruise’s full docket — promoting “Mission: Impossible 8,” filming Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s next movie, and developing another “Top Gun” movie — mean this project is far off from starting its engines. A representative for Paramount could not be reached for comment.
Bruckheimer, who also produced “Top Gun: Maverick,” has also been involved in discussions about returning for the project, according to sources.

After the massive success of Top Gun: Maverick, Tom Cruise may be looking to make a sequel to Days of Thunder, the NASCAR racing film directed by the late Tony Scott. THR reports that the actor has been talking to Paramount about the potential project in addition to Top Gun 3. The studio is reaching out to writers, but it’s still early days.
“He’s talking [to Paramount] about Top Gun and Days of Thunder,” a studio insider familiar with the discussions told the outlet. “It’s going to be what comes together first in terms of a script. It depends on the idea and, ultimately, the script… I don’t think a [Days of Thunder sequel] is a terrible idea. You might have said that revisiting Top Gun was a terrible idea. I wouldn’t discount it.“

Tom Cruise is looking to make a sequel to another of his action classics, and it’s not one that you’d expect.
The actor is talking to Paramount about a follow-up to his 1990 NASCAR racing film Days of Thunder.
On its surface, the idea seems rather bold. Thunder wasn’t considered a box office hit upon its release (making $157 million globally with a production budget of $60 million), and the film received mixed-to-negative reviews from critics. But having revived and modernized 1986’s Top Gun with 2022’s blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick, the actor believes he can work similar magic with his racing drama (which, like the original Top Gun, was a Paramount film produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Tony Scott). A Thunder revival has been floated before — Paramount once pitched a reboot of the title as a TV show for Paramount+, an idea that Cruise nixed.

Warner Bros. Pictures will release Emerald Fennell’s next film “Wuthering Heights,” landing the adaptation after a bidding war that included Netflix. Ultimately Warner Bros.’ theatrical commitment won out, and the studio will distribute the MRC film that has Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi set to star for writer/director Fennell.
The Oscar-winning “Promising Young Woman” filmmaker is coming off the release of last year’s “Saltburn,” which starred Elordi and was released in theaters by Amazon MGM Studios.

Tom Cruise’s highest-grossing film happened only because the director was able to convey the emotional core of the film to the actor in 20 minutes. When Joe Kosinski approached Cruise for Top Gun: Maverick, he knew that a sequel wouldn’t be at the top of the mind for the Mission: Impossible actor. However, Kosinski’s pitch impressed Cruise, who immediately greenlit the film.

Doing a scene in one take or making it look like a scene has been done in one uncut take is more difficult than it looks or sounds. So, you can only imagine what it must take to do an entire film that is either done in one shot or made to look like it is. Some of the most popular examples that come to mind are Gaspar Noe’s Irreversible, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s Birdman, Sam Mendes’ 1917, and James Nunn’s action extravaganzas, One Shot and One More Shot. Now, many have criticized that, given how the “invisible cuts” in these movies are pretty visible, the whole one shot gimmick feels like a distraction rather than an efficient way to give viewers an immersive experience. Well, that’s where films like Victoria, One Cut of the Dead, and Boiling Point come into play, as they have achieved the aforementioned...

Legendary Entertainment, the company behind the Dune and Godzilla franchises, said it has completed a buyout of Wanda Group’s remaining equity interest.
Legendary funded the buyout with cash on its balance sheet without outside financing. This means the company is now owned solely by management and funds managed by affiliates of Apollo, which bought a $760m minority stake in 2022.

Legendary funded the buyout with cash on its balance sheet without outside financing. This means the company is now owned solely by management and funds managed by affiliates of Apollo, which bought a $760m minority stake in 2022.

Legendary Entertainment is making a big strategic move, buying out Dalian Wanda Group’s stake in the company.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Legendary CEO Josh Grode framed the deal as being a “right place, right time” situation.
“Wanda was looking for some liquidity in some of its investments. And we are coming off a great first part of the year, we had a very strong 2023, so we have significant excess liquidity on our balance sheet,” Grode says. “After six months or so of talking about it, we were able to reach terms that we thought were good, and the transaction winds up being very accretive to both management and Apollo, which, after the transaction is over, we will own the business roughly equally.”
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the company said that it financed the buyout “via cash on its balance sheet without outside financing,...

Legendary Entertainment has bought out Chinese multinational conglomerate Wanda Group’s remaining 60% equity interest in the studio known for the “Dune” and “Godzilla” franchises.
The transaction was funded entirely by Legendary using cash on its balance sheet. Legendary emphasized that it retains “significant excess liquidity” after the transaction to fund its current business and planned expansion. In 2023, the studio secured a five-year, $800 million credit facility led by J.P. Morgan.
“The purchase of Wanda’s remaining ownership interest is the next strategic step in Legendary’s long-range growth plan. With our outstanding creative team, headed by Mary Parent, developing, producing and marketing high-quality film and television and working with leading artists remains core to our expansion,” Legendary CEO Josh Grode said in a statement. “I want to thank and acknowledge Wanda, who has been an outstanding and supportive shareholder since 2016, and I congratulate them on this transaction.”

Legendary Entertainment has completed a buyout of Wanda Group’s remaining equity interest in a move CEO Josh Grode said ushers in a new era for the studio.
Financial terms weren’t disclosed but Legendary said it funded the transaction entirely from cash on its balance sheet for the deal led by Grode, without tapping partner Apollo Global. Legendary and Apollo now co-own the company and the board will be evenly split between management and the private equity giant that invested $760 million in Legendary in 2022.
Chinese conglomerate Wanda acquired the studio in 2016. “I think they were in a position where they needed some capital [and] the opportunity arose for us to buy Wanda’s interest at a valuation that would be very accretive to both management and Apollo. And so, as a result, we were able to get a transaction done,” Grode tells Deadline.

Legendary Entertainment, the producer of the “Dune” franchise, has bought out Dalian Wanda Group’s stake in the company. The pact leaves Legendary and Apollo Global Management in control. Terms of the sale, which Legendary financed itself via cash on its balance sheet, have not been disclosed. Legendary said it did not rely on outside financing for the transaction.
Dalian Wanda Group, a Chinese conglomerate, bought the entertainment company in 2016 for $3.5 billion. Apollo later bought a stake in Legendary in 2022 for $760 million.
Talks to buy out Wanda started roughly six months ago. In an interview, Josh Grode, the CEO of Legendary, said he couldn’t remember if the discussions originated with Legendary or Wanda, but said the deal will help the company when it comes to possible expansion.

At six of the last 11 Oscars, Best Cinematography has gone hand-in-hand with Best Director: Emmanuel Lubezki and Alfonso Cuaron for “Gravity” (2014); Lubezki and Alejandro G. Inarritu for both “Birdman” (2015) and “The Revenant” (2016); Linus Sandgren and Damien Chazelle for “La La Land” (2017); Cuaron doing double duty on “Roma” (2019) and Hoyte van Hoytema and Christopher Nolan for “Oppenheimer” (2024). Will that trend hold true this year? (Scroll down for the most up-to-date 2025 Oscar predictions for Best Cinematography.)
The academy usually regards award-winning cinematography as pretty pictures within an epic technical feat of filmmaking. While great lighting and framing are laudable on their own, having a movie that looks like it was difficult to shoot goes a long way to snagging an Oscar. Recent lensing winners “Avatar” (2009), “Inception” (2010), “Hugo” (2011), “Life of Pi” (2012), “Gravity” (2013), “Blade Runner 2049” (2018) and “1917” (2020) also took home the Oscar for Best Visual Effects.

Actor Tom Cruise is known for his utmost dedication to the cinematic experience. In 2022, he ‘saved cinema’ by releasing the air-force action film Top Gun: Maverick, which earned more than a billion at the box office and is credited with bringing back audiences to theaters. He has supported good cinema since the beginning of his career.
Even before he revived the exhibition industry after the pandemic with Top Gun: Maverick, Cruise reportedly helped out budding filmmakers he saw potential in. His endorsement for 1998’s Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels reportedly saved the producers from retiring before they even started and launched the careers of Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie.

In 2010 the academy expanded the Best Picture field from just five nominees and reintroduced the preferential ballot to decide the winner. Over the ensuing 15 years, we’ve seen six splits between the winners of Best Picture and Best Director (which still has just five nominees). Prior to this such splits were fairly rare. Why the change? (Scroll down for our updated 2025 Oscar predictions for Best Director.)
At the Oscars, the winner of Best Picture is determined by a weighted ballot and the outcomes of the other 22 races, including Best Director, are decided by a popular vote. With two different voting systems, it’s easy to understand why there is often a disconnect between the winners of Best Picture and Best Director.
In 2022, Jane Campion won Best Director for “The Power of the Dog” but “Coda” was named Best Picture. In 2019 Alfonso Cuaron won Best Director for “Roma” only to see...
