May the Force be with… Emmy voters? Disney Plus amassed an impressive 40 Emmy nominations this year (up from 34 last year) thanks to its stable of “Star Wars” saga hits, which accounted for more than half of the mouse house’s total haul of 23 bids — nine for “The Mandalorian,” eight for “Andor,” five for “Obi-Wan Kenobi” and one for docuseries “Light & Magic.”

Although “Mandalorian” nabbed nine bids, the real success story this year is “Andor,” scoring a Best Drama Series nomination for its debut season plus writing and directing bids and five Creative Arts noms. The latest live-action series in the Disney-era “Star Wars” franchise, “Andor” serves as a prequel to “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” (2016) and also by extension to the original Oscar-winning classic “Star Wars” (1977).

The Motion Picture Sound Editors on Monday unveiled nomination for the 70th annual Mpse Golden Reel Awards. Winners will be announced February 26 at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles.

The organization of professional sound and music editors honors the year’s outstanding feature film, television, animation, computer entertainment, and student productions.

The Mpse will also honor Jerry Bruckheimer with its 2023 Filmmaker Award, and Gwendolyn Yates Whittle with its Career Achievement Award.

With a trio of nominations, Everything Everywhere All At Once leads the feature competition of the 70th Motion Picture Sound Editors’ (Mpse) Golden Reel Awards, which announced its noms on Monday.

Close behind with two nominations apiece are The Batman, Elvis, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, Moonage Daydream and Top Gun: Maverick.

A24’s genre-bending Everything is nominated in the categories of outstanding dialogue and Adr, effects/Foley and music editing in a feature film.

The Batman and Top Gun: Maverick are each nominated for dialogue/Adr and effects/Foley editing. Elvis is nominated for dialogue/Adr and music editing, and Pinocchio is nominated for music editing, as well as for sound editing in an animated movie. Meanwhile, Moonage Daydream received two noms in the documentary categories, for sound editing and music editing.

All six of the aforementioned movies are shortlisted for the Oscar in sound, along with All Quiet on the Western Front...

The Motion Picture Sound Editors handed out their awards in a virtual ceremony with Pixar’s “Soul, “Tenet” and “Greyhound” among the winners.

The Mpse also awarded “The Trial of the Chicago 7” for outstanding achievement in sound editing – feature dialogue / Adr, and outstanding achievement in sound editing – feature musical went to “Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of the Fire Saga.”

All the films have received Oscar nominations in numerous categories, with “Greyhound” and “Soul” nominated in the newly combined best sound category.

The Golden Reel Awards, recognizing outstanding achievement in sound editing, were presented in 22 categories encompassing feature films, long-form and short-form television, animation, documentaries, games, special venue and other media.

Academy Award-winning re-recording mixer Chris Jenkins presented the Mpse Filmmaker Award to “Mad Max” director George Miller.

The Mpse Career Achievement Award went to supervising sound editor Dennis Drummond, Drummond’s award was accepted by his brother, Patrick Drummond.

“Tenet,” “Eurovision Song Contest,” “The Trial of the Chicago 7” and “Greyhound” have won feature-film awards at the Motion Picture Sound Editors Mpse Golden Reel Awards, which took place on Friday evening in a virtual event.

The Mpse divides the art of sound editing into several different categories, with “Tenet” winning for underscore, “Eurovision Song Contest” for music, “The Trial of the Chicago 7” for dialogue/Adr and “Greyhound” for effects/foley.

In the past, the last of those categories has most closely corresponded to the Academy Award for Best Sound Editing — but that Oscar category was merged with the Best Sound Mixing category into a single Best Sound category this year. “Greyhound” is nominated in that category, along with “Soul,” “Mank,” “News of the World” and “Sound of Metal.”

It was a clear victory for sci-fi sound editing Sunday night at the 65th annual Mpse Golden Reel Awards at the Westin Bonaventure. “War for the Planet of the Apes” was the surprise winner for Dialogue/Adr, splitting honors with “Blade Runner 2049,” which grabbed the Effects/Foley prize. The big loser was “Dunkirk” (which won the BAFTA sound award earlier Sunday). Hollywood’s sound pros nominated Birdman and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes for three awards apiece as the Motion Picture Sound Editors unveiled nods for its 62nd Mpse Golden Reel Awards, honoring the best feature film, television, animation and computer entertainment work of the year.

"Avatar" won two trophies at the 57th annual Golden Reel Awards given by the Motion Picture Sound Editors (Mpse). James Cameron's game-changing sci-fi film took home Best Sound Editing of Music in a Feature Film award and Best Sound Effects and Foley in a Feature.
