The Kansas City, Missouri native and Navy veteran majored in Broadcast Communications at Lincoln University of Missouri. His first exposure to color grading was as a timing coordinator for the movie Starship Troopers. It was then that he suggested using compositing software with film scanning to color all vfx shots for Sony Imageworks - becoming one of the early digital intermediate pioneers.
