- While on the set of Shock (1946) one day, co-star Lynn Bari and Shaw were talking and Bari mentioned that she was a direct descendant, on her mother's side, of Revolutionary War hero Alexander Hamilton. Shaw revealed that she was a direct descendant of Aaron Burr--the man who killed Hamilton in the famous duel.
- Her family were for generations leaders in commerce and industry, particularly timber and water. Her mother's grandfather was the founder of Mendocino.
- Member of the Screen Actor's Guild from 1943.
- Graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, in 1943. Studied acting at the Nealy Dixon School of Drama. Spotted by talent scouts. After screen tests, signed with Warner Brothers and was from then on represented by the William Morris Agency. Changed her name from Marjorie Henshaw to Anabel Shaw after signing with 20th Century Fox in 1946.
