They range from the previously-announced Shah Rukh Khan-starring Bollywood movie project “Dunki,” through Adil Hussain’s Bengali-language art-house picture “The Storyteller,” which appeared at the Busan Film Festival last year, to a range of web originals and mini-series.

Contents are made as originals in a range of local languages including Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati and Bhojpuri. Genres range from action, drama, thriller and romance to horror and musicals.

The company called the lineup “the single largest slate ever produced by an Indian studio in a given year” while also calling it a “game changer” and “explosive.”

Mumbai, April 12 (Ians) Actor Nana Patekar is set to make his Ott debut with the upcoming series titled ‘Laal Batti’, a political thriller helmed by Prakash Jha.

The project was unveiled on Wednesday as a part of the content slate of Jio Studios. The star-studded event was held at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. Over 100+ stories in multiple languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Bhojpuri and southern languages, across genres of films and original web series are lined up for release.

Some of the biggest directors of Hindi cinema, including Raj Kumar Hirani, Sooraj Barjatya, Ali Abbas Zafar, Aditya Dhar, Prakash Jha, Amar Kaushik and Laxman Utekar, will be releasing their projects as a part of the slate.

Reliance Industries’ Indian content arm Jio Studios has unveiled a huge slate of films and streaming shows at a star-studded event in Mumbai. It also struck a production deal with Bengali film powerhouse Svf Entertainment.

The slate titles comprise projects for the Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, South and Bhojpuri markets, and span action, drama, thriller, comedy, romance, biopics, horror and musicals.

The studio was launched in 2018, around the same time Indian streaming content began to boom as international players such as Netflix and Prime Video and local services such as ZEE5 Global and SonyLIV began to pump cash into their local originals slates.

The Svf agreement will see Jio Studios and the Bengali company working to create blockbuster-sized features from creators such as Dhrubo Banerjee, Raj Chakraborty, Anirban Bhattacharya and Srijit Mukherji that star the likes of Mithun Chakraborty, Prosenjit Chatterjee and Jisshu Sengupta.

Veteran composer Vanraj Bhatia, who provided the soundtrack to India’s new age cinema movement of the 1970s and 1980s, has died in Mumbai. He was 93 and is understood to have been in poor health for some time.

Born in Bombay, as the metropolis was known as then, in 1927, Bhatia studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London and at the Conservatoire de Paris in the 1950s.

Upon his return to India, Bhatia enjoyed a successful career as a composer for advertising commercials through the 1960s. During this time, he also composed scores for several documentaries.

Bhatia debuted as a composer for feature films with “Ankur” (1974) directed by Shyam Benegal, a pioneer of India’s New Wave cinema movement, an independent alternative to mainstream commercial cinema. Tandav seems to have bitten more than it can chew. There is so much activity, such frenzied happenings as politicians, policemen, students and power brokers go on a rampage. And yet at the end of the exhausting series I was clueless about the variety of politics that the writers of this scattered series want to preach. The screenplay seems to be a jumble of recent political headlines. Evidently the writer’s heart bleeds for the politicization of Jawaharlal Nehru University politics, here faux-acronymed into Vhu. Their sympathies are with the students, and that’s fine.

And yes, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub as a faux-Kanhaiya is brilliant in a cast that overall proves less than capable of shouldering the political chaos of the series..

Mumbai, Dec 10 (Ians) Filmmaker Prakash Jha feels 2020 has been a revolutionary year, with Ott platforms emerging as a growing space to exhibit films as well as shows.

"2020 has been revolutionary. We have seen the medium of Ott sort of giving us the exhibition of feature films and web series," Jha said.

"Having made feature films, all my life I found that web series gives you the latitude to be able to indulge in each and every character subplots and make them into important plots and spread your story. At the same time, each capsule has to be engaging, and has to entertain," added the filmmaker.

Jha, along with filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh, was part of two panel discussions on the dynamics of short films and the rise of the web series at the third edition of Critics' Choice Awards 2020.

Ghosh opened up about the challenges he faced while making short films.

The trailer of Ak vs Ak is out now, and while the audience is loving the style of Anil Kapoor, his co-star Anurag Kashyap, a popular director, is getting lauded for his acting skills too.

Ak vs Ak is not Anurag's first film as an actor, and he certainly is not the first Bollywood director to come in front of the camera.

Mumbai, Oct 27 (Ians) Actress Anupria Goenka impressed Ott fans with her role in the Prakash Jha web series Aashram earlier this year, and she currently has her hands full.

She will soon be seen in "Criminal Justice" Season 2, "Aashram 2" and the film "Mere Desh Ki Dharti".

Anupria had been busy shooting for the second season of "Criminal Justice" before the lockdown was clamped in March this year.

"We had to stall the shoot and later on, it picked up and we wrapped the shoot in the last one and a half month. That in itself is an overwhelming experience where all of us just got together with the risks attached. The production took great care of keeping everyone safe. We all got to create and do what we do best," said Anupria.

"It feels amazing to be part of content-driven projects with new and fresh concepts which have been mounted well.

The teaser of Aashram season two is out on Thursday, and lead actor Bobby Deol says in the new season his character, Kashipur Waale Baba Nirala, bends every rule.

Titled "Aashram: Chapter 2 The Dark Side", the second season starts on November 11.

"Ashram: Chapter 2 -- The Dark Side" drops on November 11, a day after Ipl 2020 ends. Bobby Deol confirmed news earlier in the day. The actor will be returning wioth the primary cast who featured in season one, including Aaditi Pohankar, Chandan Roy Sanyal, Anupriya Goenka, and Darshan Kumaar.

Talking about the new season of the show, Jha said: "We've all worked very hard and with a lot of passion on this series, and the response from the audience has made every bit of it worthwhile. Hope this new chapter continues to excite the audience."

Actress Anupria Goenka says working with filmmaker Prakash Jha came as an opportunity to learn more about the craft.

Anupria got a chance to with Jha in the recent web series "Aashram", which revolves around the corruption and crime that happens under the guise of faith.

"For me, the best part of 'Aashram' was getting to work with Prakash Jha. I've always revered his films and have been a very big fan of his work. His kind of storytelling is very unique," Anupria said.

The Coalition of South Asian Film Festivals will kick off Oct. 3 with Baba Azmi’s “Mee Raqsam” (I Dance) and close with Prateek Vats’ “Eeb Allay Ooo!” on Oct. 17. The heart is completely in the right place. Pareeksha, director Prakash Jha’s best in years, is a heartwarming, unabashed tearjerker. It reminded me of one my favourite Shabana Azmi starrers Bhavna (1984) where the mother of a child goes to extreme lengths (prostitution) to educate her son. In Pareeksha, Adil Hussain as the all-giving father Buchi an honest righteous rickshaw puller, becomes a thief to accrue money for his son’s education in a posh school.

Some of the rickshaw pullers adversities are clearly excessive and the school’s stiff upperlipped board members are pure caricatures. Jha wins us over with the sheer velocity of the emotions expressed. This is his most emotional films since Mrityudand and by far the most pure-hearted.
