Hissable villain Bela Lugosi is in denial --- no, it's actually star Edmund Lowe who is in the Nile, deep-sixed in a sunken sarcophagus. Lugosi's up top trying to get his art deco death ray in running order -- opposed only by some nubile babes and a Great White Hypnotist from the Swami school of mind control. Versatile production designer, screenwriter and producer of Hollywood films
Popular legend has it that the new wave of American film-making in the late 1960s and early 1970s was an exclusively masculine phenomenon, a myth bolstered by the hard-living excesses documented in Peter Biskind's book Easy Riders, Raging Bulls. But women were instrumental in many of the movies which defined that era, and few more so than Polly Platt, who has died aged 72 from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig's disease.
"I call myself a confused careerist," she said of her switches from production and costume design to writing and producing. She was credited as production designer on the films which brought to prominence her second husband, the director Peter Bogdanovich, notably The Last Picture Show (1971) and Paper Moon (1973), but her contribution extended far beyond that job description. "They discussed every shot," wrote Biskind of the making of The Last Picture Show.

Newton-john's Ex-lover 'Found Alive'
Officials investigating the disappearance of Olivia Newton-john's former lover have renewed hope he is still alive after he reportedly sent authorities a letter begging to be left alone.
Patrick McDermott, presumed dead after disappearing on a 2005 fishing trip, is said to have faxed a message to U.S. private detectives asking to live his life in peace in Mexico.
The fax, obtained by Britain's Daily Mail, reads, "Pat has asked that I portray to you his innocence. Pat has committed no crime. Pat simply wishes to be left alone. Let him live his life in peace and harmony. He is safe and has started anew again in a new place both physically and mentally. Stop this search immediately."
Lead investigator Philip Klein alleges he and his team have also received three phone calls from McDermott's representatives in the past six months, which followed 16 sightings of the cameraman in Mexico in recent years.
Klein believes McDermott is now working as a deckhand in fishing town Sayulita amid speculation he had staged his own death to be free of child support debts to ex-wife Yvette Nipar.
The Grease star was left heartbroken after McDermott vanished off the California coast, but has since found love with tycoon John Easterling, who she married in Peru last summer.

Olivia Newton-John's onetime boyfriend, who disappeared in 2005 and was presumed to have drowned at sea, may be alive after having faked his own vanishing act, according to a private investigator hired by Dateline NBC. Former cameraman Patrick McDermott apparently slipped out of sight to escape debts and let his son cash in a $100,000 life-insurance policy, believes investigator Philip Klein. Though devastated at the time, Newton-John did move on after McDermott was presumed to be permanently gone. In summer 2008 she married natural-health businessman John Easterling. But, Klein told the NBC news program, the singer regularly logs onto the Pi's Web site for updates on McDermott,...
