A leading theorist in quantum computing he studied at Cambridge,
England, earning a PhD in the Department of Applied Mathematics and
Theoretical Physics under the direction of
Stephen Hawking. Worked at Los
Alamos National Laboratory before taking a position as faculty in the
Department of Physics, University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, and as
Director of the Institute for Quantum Computing. His areas of research
include quantum information theory and experiments, quantum gravity,
and cosmology.
