He became interested in acting when he attended the University of Toronto. Eventually, he found that his father had a poignant reason for disapproving of his son's career choice: his father's older brother had been a respected actor, but had died in poverty. When Lee received his first big paycheck as an actor, he gave it to his parents.

He was born in South Korea, and his family moved to Canada when he was a baby; they eventually settled in Calgary, Alberta. He and his sister worked in various family businesses, which included a variety store.

Is a member of the Star Wars costuming group The 501st Legion.

When he was a baby his parents decided to immigrate from South Korea to Canada in order to give him a better life.
