Kaleidoscope Home Entertainment has revealed that the horror anthology Lore, starring an impressive cast including Richard Brake, Andrew Lee Potts, Bill Fellows, and comedian Rufus Hound, will be available on digital download from 21st October 2024 – just in time for Halloween.
Lore is a gripping blend of horror and dark comedy, structured as an anthology that delivers plenty of scares and unsettling twists. The film, which had its World Premiere at Pigeon Shrine FrightFest 2023, centres on four thrill-seeking friends who embark on a ghostly camping trip in the Scottish wilderness. Led by Darwin, their odd and enigmatic guide, the group is tasked with sharing the most terrifying tales they can imagine around a campfire. However, as the stories unfold, the friends soon realise that their nightmarish narratives have far more real-world consequences than they could ever have anticipated.

The first feature of frequent Frightfester Damon Rickard (try saying that five times fast) had its premiere at this years festival in the heart of London. For regular attendees of the fest, Damon’s name may be familiar as he has directed (and starred in!) some of the opening ident segments for Frightfest in recent years. This year, Damon was in attendance with a film of his very own entitled Never Have I Ever.
Never Have I Ever intertwines elements of a psychological thriller with a dark undertone of horror to create a nuanced sense of creeping dread that crescendos in an unexpected yet satisfying finale.
The audience is introduced to Sam (Andrew Lee Potts), a down on his luck alcoholic whose day seems to be going from bad to worse. We are teased with pebbles of information that allude to the cause of his downward spiral, but despite his...

One day, when Sam (Andrew Lee Potts) gets back to his flat, there’s a ribbon-wrapped bottle of wine sitting on the kitchen worktop waiting for him, and he has no idea where it came from.
Perhaps this shouldn’t seem so odd. He does drink a lot – but he doesn’t seem to be given to blackouts, and the idea that he could have possessed such a bottle and not consumed its contents seems, well, unlikely. Plus he has had no money. We’ve seen him run after a friend of his dead wife in the street, begging her to lend him money for cigarettes; the degree of disdain with which she responds to this entreaty, in the circumstances, is telling. Nobody who knows him seems to like or trust him. The only sympathetic communication he gets comes from a producer to whom he owes a screenplay, and that doesn’t seem likely to.

Tales told around the fire, especially a campfire, have been one of the primary ways humans have passed on myths, lore and scary stories in general as long as humans and fire have co-existed. Richard Brake is well cast as the host for this portmanteau of grisly yarns, where the girls’ tales are made of stronger stuff than the boys’
Anthology films are notoriously hard to pull off but, though it starts shakily, this low-budget British portmanteau has an ace in the hole: horror stalwart Richard Brake, whose grimy leer is normally a kitemark of something at least halfway chilling. (Hopefully his dental hygiene is better in real life.) In Lore, he is a Cryptkeeper-style host for four hikers out for an “immersive” experience in the wilds; informing them that they have pitched their tents above the site of some ancient evil, this campfire compere bids them bring forth their most blood-chilling yarns.
The boys, Mark (Dean Bone) and Dan (Miles Mitchell), think basic: the former trots out a warehouse runaround with gang fugitive Daniel (Andrew-Lee Potts) encountering a saw-toothed monster and a last-gasp psychological twist.

"Who brave enough to talk to the dead?" Kaleidoscope Home Ent. has revealed an offiical UK trailer for an indie horror anthology film from the UK titled Lore, which first premiered at FrightFest London last year. It'll be debuting in the UK on the Icon Film Channel for streaming this summer, then in UK theaters and on VOD later in the year. An isolated group of backpackers innocently tell their favourite spooky stories around a campfire, unaware that with each word they say, they unleash another supernatural horror into reality. A "gripping and gruesome anthology horror", this acclaimed film stars Richard Brake, Andrew Lee Potts, Bill Fellows, and Rufus Hound. Featuring three segments directed by James Bushe, Patrick Ryder, and Greig Johnson. As usual with anthology films, one or two of these segments look way better than the others. The wooden masks look very creepy, but the other mask does not.

It seems like just 57 days ago that I was writing my review of G-Loc, starring the ever so awesome Casper Van Dien and I wondered for the most briefest of moments how long it would be before Paton was back on set. Turns out that ship had sailed and 400 Bullets was coming out! After making the move from the potato fields to an actual physical soundstage with Goldfinch Studios, Tom and his Dop (and soulmate) George Burt decided to put bricks and mortar to the relationship that had been building with producer Steve Mosley as they built their own studio.
We have seen this team tackle post apocalyptic, vampires, elder gods, a timey-wimey staircase and space colonization… So I guess it was high time we added some all out butt-kicking action to the repertoire with 400 Bullets.

It would seem that British horror is on something of a roll at the moment. Film after film it seems filmmakers from these shores have stepped up their game tenfold, be it in an attempt to compete with their American counterparts or be it that more home-grown horror is finally seeing the light of day (a few years ago British-made product would really struggle to find distribution outside of a few small DVD labels here in the UK). Whatever it may be, it’s safe to say British horror is back with a vengeance. And James Crow’s House of Salem is a perfect example of that.

With the highly anticipated folk horror Dogged currently doing a tour of the festival circuits, I had the opportunity to talk with actresses Nadia Lamin about developing the character Sparrow and her experiences making the film.
How did you get involved in the film Dogged?
My agent Jo Southwell, Aston Management. She put me up for the part of Sparrow and told me about the project. I read the script and I thought it was brilliant. It is one of those scripts that I read from front to back in less than an hour. I just read it all. Normally it takes me a long time to read stuff, so I knew that I really liked this. I love the character Sparrow so I went to the audition and that evening I got told that I had the part.
So, you instantly from the script had a sense that it could be a good film.

Getting down to business in The Book Club Photo: Redshirt Films
What would happen if a quiet little village in Yorkshire managed to secede from the rest of the UK and made murder legal? That's the question behind Jamie McKeller's current project, The Book Club. "I'm sorry to bang on about it because I know everyone is, but Bryan Cranston in Breaking Bad is remarkable.
"To see him switch from Malcolm in the Middle to suddenly become Walter White is incredible. It's a) nice to see an actor given that chance and b) great to see him really take full advantage of it.
"I think he was masterful, oh my god, just amazing.

"Was it demoralising to see an actor doing a role so well? Well you do sometimes watch performances and just think, 'I may as well give up. I won't reach that. I may as well give up'.

Gary Oldman is my TV hero. The incredible thing about Gary Oldman is his versatility.
Versatility is the key with acting and that's something I took away from Gary.
It's really hard to not get put in a box when you're acting and get typecast. Even if I play a similar role to one I've played before, I will never play it the same, I'll always try to do something different with it. I've been lucky enough to play many different roles from darker characters to family orientated shows to comedy.
Gary Oldman is the master of that art of transformation.
My favourite Gary Oldman performance? It would probably have to be Drexl Spivey in True Romance. Incredible. He's just cracking in that.
Watch Gary Oldman in True Romance (Warning: Contains strong language)
He can play good guys and bad guys and it looks effortless. He's the number one for me.

Another week, another load of great telly to sink your teeth into. In addition to all the seriously sensational shows below, we're looking forward to Channel 4's '80s night extravaganza on Friday, September 20 as well.
The nostalgic tribute to the era that taste forgot kicks off with a revamp of Celebrity Fifteen to One hosted by Adam Hills at 8pm, followed by retro editions of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown at 9pm and Alan Carr's Chatty Man at 10pm, before Rewind The Tube, a documentary dedicated to the anarchic music show, closes everything at 11.05pm.
Father Figure: Wednesday (September 18) at 10.35pm on BBC One
It started life as a Radio 2 programme, but Father Figure - which stars comedian Jason Byrne as a disaster-prone dad - seems perfectly suited to the small screen, where the slapstick and silliness can be played out in all its glory.

The series stars Luther's Warren Brown as Jack Quinn, leader of an elite team of mavericks who bring criminals to justice - by any means.

Luther star Warren Brown has described his new show as "like The A-Team meets The Equalizer".
Brown will play the lead in BBC One's new drama By Any Means, from writer Tony Jordan (Life On Mars, Hustle).
"I play a character called Jack Quinn, who's in charge of a team and their brief is to catch criminals by any means," Brown told Digital Spy. "It's of the crime genre, but they're not actually police. They go after criminals that the police can't catch, for whatever reason.
"It's a bit of a dysfunctional family - different members of the team have different skills and they're called upon when required.
"I tried to describe it and I said, 'It's like The A-Team meets The Equalizer', and then I thought, 'I would absolutely bloody watch that!''
Brown also explained that By Any Means is lighter fare than his recent work on the BBC's Luther and Good Cop.

Syfy was smart to schedule Primeval: New World for summer; it’s a fun summer watch. The dinos are pretty cool looking, and mostly nicely ferocious. If you missed last week’s premiere, here’s the synopsis, with my notations in parentheses:
Evan Cross (played by Niall Matter, Zane on Eureka), a business mogul, uses his company’s resources to research random anomalies (if you’re not familiar with the original series, “anomalies” look like big sparkly portals and at this point in the series, no one knows for sure what they are). When bodies and missing people start increasing, a single-manned government agency code-named “Project Magnet”, and a member of Predator Control (in the U.S. it would be “Animal Control” – Primeval: New World is a Canadian show), join the group. Connor Temple (yes, Andrew Lee Potts, Connor from the original Primeval series, guest stars) tries to warn Evan...

David Walliams's children's book Gangsta Granny is to be adapted for BBC One.
The one-off hour-long comedy-drama will tell the story of schoolboy Ben, who discovers that his apparently boring grandma is actually an international jewel thief plotting to steal the Crown Jewels.
Gangsta Granny is being adapted by the same team that previously brought Walliams's Mr Stink to the small screen in 2012.
"Gangsta Granny has proved to be the most popular of all my books," said Walliams. "It is an adventure story about two unlikely thieves, Granny and her grandson Ben. It should make for exciting family viewing at Christmas."
BBC One's controller of comedy commissioning Shane Allen added: "The story delivers on David's penchant for being outrageously funny, yet poignant and tender as well.
"This will be a wonderful family viewing treat for this Christmas and we're thrilled about seeing it make the journey from page to screen.

We have been reading, longingly, about the upcoming Canadian spinoff of the UK dinosaurs-in-the-modern-world series Primeval entitled Primeval: New World. We thought it would be fun. Then when we heard Niall Matter (Zane on Eureka) had been cast, we got even more jealous of our northern neighbors. Then when we heard it would be promoted as “darker and scarier” than the original series from whence it sprung, it sounded right up our alley. But since it wasn’t literally up Our alley, we sat and stewed.
But that is all behind us now as we rejoice over today’s announcement that Syfy has picked up the series for the U.S. market. First we have a trailer for you to check out, so that you can be as excited as we are, before getting to the details of the press release:
