Back in the day, Fox was all about casting Ben and Matt for the role that went to Ron Livingston. But here’s the plot twist: Ron Livingston’s audition was straight-up fire and couldn’t be ignored.

Mike Judge, the genius behind the film, was looking for someone who didn’t have “star energy”—and Affleck and Damon riding high on their fame. During Season 5 of the hit series, Livingston’s Berger dates Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie. A struggling novelist, Berger’s mood swings lead to him ending things with Carrie via Post-it, reading, “I’m sorry. I can’t. Don’t hate me.”

Livingston’s real-life wife, fellow actress Rosemarie DeWitt, said during “The Drew Barrymore Show” that she and Livingston couldn’t even walk through New York City without rabid “Sex and the City” fans accosting them.

The Oscar-nominee turned on-screen avenging angel is joining the previously announced Zachary Levi in the new action-thriller from Guy Moshe. Cameras will start rolling in late summer. The rest of the ensemble will be cast in the coming weeks.

The character he plays, Larry, is complex, irreverent, and inspired by real people. Neeson was initially best known for his work in serious-minded dramas such as “Schindler’s List” and “Kinsey,” but he’s become an action icon since “Taken” took the box office by storm in 2008. His work in the genre includes roles in “The Grey” and “Non-Stop.

The Oscar nominated actor is set to board Guy Moshe’s action thriller Hotel Tehran opposite Zachary Levi, who Deadline first told you about. Also joining the Liam Neeson feature to handle worldwide distribution is Rocket Science alongside previously announced Oakhurst Entertainment, Astral Future and Dreamtime Films. The movie will start shooting later this summer.

Mike Judge and his Office Space cast reunited at South by Southwest Film & TV Festival for a panel discussion March 9 sponsored by The Hollywood Reporter about the beloved and influential film — a title that arguably reinvented the workplace comedy for the modern age and popularized the concept of quiet quitting. While the panel discussion tackled several intriguing aspects about the film’s creation and reception (some highlights below), Judge revealed a few extra tidbits at the post-panel reception at Austin’s The Statesman restaurant.

Office Space is celebrating its 25th anniversary following its delayed path to success, although hopefully no one would get their ass kicked for saying something like that.

Released Feb. 19, 1999, director Mike Judge’s enduring and endlessly quotable workplace satire follows computer programmer Peter Gibbons (Ron Livingston), who decides to stop caring about his day job and teams up with Initech co-workers Michael Bolton (David Herman) and Samir Nagheenanajar (Ajay Naidu) to defraud the company. The Fox comedy — featuring such on-the-rise performers as Jennifer Aniston, John C. McGinley, Gary Cole and Stephen Root — collected just $10 million at the time but became a cult favorite after finding a following through cable and home video.

Other standouts from the cast include Richard Riehle as engineer liaison Tom Smykowski, who defends his job (“I have people skills!”) to Paul Willson and McGinley as the two Bobs who are put in charge of layoffs. In...

In December 2023 on Amazon Prime Video, the Peter Farrelly comedy starring Ron Livingston (who plays the titular Loudermilk), Will Sasso, and Anja Savcic ranked 828th among all streaming shows, according to Reelgood. Now on Netflix, it’s ninth.

Even “Suits” could get jealous of that bump.

Each month, Reelgood measures what it calls 20 million “viewing decisions” on 25,000 shows across more than 200 streaming platforms. Check out the measurement app’s aptly titled “Rise from Obscurity” line graph for “Loudermilk,” as shared with IndieWire:

Before you wave off Reelgood’s methodology, let’s check in with Nielsen, the TV ratings giant.

In its first three weeks on Netflix, “Loudermilk” has made Nielsen’s Top 10 chart for acquired streaming programs each week: eighth twice and 10th once. As an Amazon Prime Video series, “Loudermilk” never charted — and it is safe that say it never came close.

"I believe you have my stapler." Odds are, the majority of people who enjoy comedy films would be able to tell you that quote is from "Office Space." Directed by "Beavis and Butthead" creator Mike Judge, it was his first live-action feature and would probably rank near the top of any list of things he's made if one were to conduct an informal survey of his fans. That's the way it is now. In 1999 when the film first hit theaters? Not so much. "Office Space" majorly disappointed against high expectations and, at least at first, seemed like it was going to be forgotten to time. Then a straight-up cult developed around the workplace comedy and it's now a part of the fabric of popular culture.

What was old was extremely new on Netflix in January and even into this month.

Specifically, the Peter Farrelly-created dramedy series about addiction, Loudermilk, which was barely found in its original run on the now-unplugged AT&T Audience Network, became a must-see show on the streamer six-plus years after its original airing.

In Nielsen’s Top 10 for Streaming Originals (January 8-14), Loudermilk ranked No. 8 with 846 million viewing minutes.

But even before that list was published, Loudermilk was showing signs of life across the streamer’s own Top 10 charts. Loudermilk Season 1 was in the Netflix Top 10 most-viewed shows in the U.S. for four weeks with a peak rank of No. 4 during the week of January 15-21. Season 2 of Loudermilk ranked in the Netflix top 10 stateside during the week of July 28.

James Brolin, Lizzy Greene (“A Million Little Things”), and Eoin Macken (“La Brea”) are set to join Netflix’s upcoming romantic drama “Ransom Canyon,” Variety has confirmed.

They join previously announced leads Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly. Kelly will portray Quinn, a character who “has often found herself in the shadow of others, but after a stint in New York pursuing her career as a concert pianist, she has returned to Ransom Canyon to carve out a new path for herself.”

Duhamel is set to play Staten Kirkland, the “steadfast and stoic” owner of the Double K Ranch. Staten “leads the charge to resist outside forces threatening his way of life and the land that he loves,” reads the description.

The Bosnian actress plays Claire Wilkes in the series, the unlikely roommate of the former music critic and recovering addict the show takes its name from, Sam Loudermilk (played by Ron Livingston). 

After originally airing on the AT&T Audience Network in 2017, the gripping dramedy was acquired by Netflix, making its debut on the streamer in the U.S. in January 2024.

Exclusive: Zachary Levi (Shazam!) is set to topline Hotel Tehran, a new action thriller marking the fourth feature from writer-director Guy Moshe (Bunraku).

In the film heading into production in May, Levi plays Tucker, who leads a unit of disgraced, war-torn ex-CIA operators into the heart of Tehran to take down a life-changing score.

Moshe wrote the script with Mark Bacci (Prisoner’s Daughter), from an original idea by Bazzel Baz (The Blacklist), a former CIA special operations group officer. Oakhurst Entertainment is financing. Oakhurst’s Marina Grasic is producing alongside Matthew G. Zamias (Boxing Day), co-founder of the new financing and production company Astral Future, as well as Wendy Sweetmore of Dreamtime Films.
