The next DC animated movie is titled Justice League: Warworld, and the official MPA rating has been turned in this week. The upcoming movie will be released with an “R” rating.

Justice League: Warworld is rated “R” for “Some bloody violence.”

Coming this summer from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, Justice League: Warworld features a voice cast including Jensen Ackles, Stana Katic, and Darren Criss.

Parts of Alejandro Jodorowsky’s 1973 dreamscape might look dated but its superlative weirdness remains undimmed

Alejandro Jodorowsky’s 1973 film is now revived in UK cinemas: a plumply overripe fruit of the counterculture, dripping with the juices of spiritual rebellion, semi-comic posturing, consciousness-raising and all-around freakiness. Hardly a moment passes in this movie without a situationist display of outrageousness; it is a dream tableau of the weird and occasionally wonderful.

Unlike his celebrated breakthrough El Topo, this is less like a spaghetti-lsd western and is more urban, notionally more political, and more satirical. But the key Jodorowsky tropes are still there: the absurdism, the hedonism, the tarot mysticism. Some of the group-nudity scenes reminded me of the stoned hippy in David Lodge’s novel Changing Places talking about establishing “a socialism of the emotions”.

Altitude Film Entertainment and Pan-Européenne UK have entered a joint venture for the UK release of Jérôme Salle’s The Odyssey, capturing the life of legendary ocean explorer Jacques-Yves Cousteau aboard his ship the Calypso.

It will be the first UK release for London-based Pan-Européenne UK, since its creation last year by French producer and distributor team Philippe Godeau and Nathalie Gastaldo Godeau.

The pair are producers on The Odyssey through their Paris-based production and distribution house Pan-Européenne alongside Olivier Delbosc and Marc Missonnier at Fidélité Films

In the same spirit, it could be said that this is the summer of Eric Rohmer. Some of the season's most prominent films, including Frances Ha, Before Midnight, and Exhibition (which recently opened the Locarno film festival), show the influence of the French director, who died in 2010, and whose lithe and playful work extended the possibilities of a certain kind of small-scale, psychologically curious, dialogue-led drama.
