Exclusive: Oscar winner Dustin Hoffman, André Holland, Alison Brie and Tom Sturridge are leading Alex Vlack’s feature directorial debut, the drama The Revisionist.

The production, written by Vlack, is currently shooting in Louisville, Ky.

In The Revisionist, Elise, a successful novelist, does what so many writers do: she manipulates and transforms the people in her life into the characters she needs for her story. As she blurs the line between fiction and reality, her world descends into secrets, lies, and outright betrayal. The project is an exploration of the psychological lengths to which a writer will go to achieve their art.

Pic is also produced by Vlack along with Arielle Elwes, Veronica Radaelli, Zachary Spicer, Fiona Robert and Sophia Robert. Vlack’s previous work includes directing and executive producing the documentary Still Bill about soul legend Bill Withers.

The Mara sisters enjoyed a night out together!

Kate Mara and Rooney Mara stepped out to attend the Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue & Protection (Lcrp) Reception on Wednesday (December 4) in West Hollywood, Calif.

The sisters were joined at the event by Kate‘s husband Jamie Bell.

Kate and Rooney have been supporting the organization ever since traveling to Liberia in 2018 to learn about the work being done there.

“Once we had the opportunity to be face-to-face with these incredible animals, there was just no turning back,” Kate told People in December 2020. “They’re very similar to human babies. At first, we made sure to really give them their space and let them come to us until they were ready to explore. But what was really spectacular was when we went back two years later, they immediately remembered us.”

Cast members for “Black Mirror” Season 7 have been revealed during Netflix’s Geeked Week.

Awkwafina, Peter Capaldi, Emma Corrin, Patsy Ferran, Paul Giamatti, Lewis Gribben, Osy Ikhile, Rashida Jones, Siena Kelly, Rosy McEwen, Chris O’Dowd, Issa Rae, Paul G. Raymond, Tracee Ellis Ross and Harriet Walter are joining the sci-fi anthology series.

Cristin Milioti, Billy Magnussen, Jimmy Simpson, Milanka Brooks and Osy Ikhile will also return for a follow-up to the Season 4 episode “USS Callister.” Season 7 will consist of six episodes and air on Netflix sometime in 2025.

A24 has picked up its third festival film in less than three weeks, paying what is understood to be low seven figures for US rights to Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) Midnight Madness selection Friendship starring Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd.

The comedy from Fifth Season and BoulderLight Pictures received its world premiere in Toronto on September 8 where it was a runner-up in the People’s Choice Midnight Madness Award.

According to Deadline, sources have said the deal that A24 shelled out reached seven figures. The indie powerhouse has acquired U.S. distribution for “Friendship,” the Andrew DeYoung film that stars Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd, out of the Toronto International Film Festival. The deal is said to be in the low 7-figure range, an individual with knowledge told TheWrap.

Robinson plays Craig Waterman, a suburban dad whose life takes an unexpected turn when he befriends his enigmatic new neighbor, Austin Carmichael, played by Rudd. Kate Mara, Jack Dylan Grazer, Josh Segarra, Billy Bryk, Jason Veasey and Jon Glaser also star.

DeYoung also wrote the screenplay for the movie, which was one of the breakout titles at TIFF this year, with the film receiving raves for how hilarious and uncomfortable the movie made audiences. The movie played as part of the Midnight Madness program at the festival.

Channeling the cringe comedy of “I Think You Should Leave,” Robinson plays a suburban dad who obsessively pursues a bond with his charming neighbor (Rudd). Review: Confession time – this movie is my introduction to Tim Robinson. Sure, I’ve had folks name-drop his show I Think You Should Leave, and it’s always been on my list of stuff to check out. But, I walked into this more-or-less fresh, not knowing what to expect. What I got was one of the most cringe-inducing comedies I’ve ever seen – and I loved every second of it.

To be sure, this kind of humour isn’t for everyone. There were times while I was watching Friendship in the (jam-packed) TIFF screening that I’m sure I annoyed the people sitting next to me by how many times I sunk in my seat, covering my face with my hands and repeating “no, no, no” louder than I should. Having successfully built a devoted following as a leading purveyor of cringe comedy with his hit Netflix sketch series, I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson, the show’s rubber-faced star/co-creator ups his game with the innocently titled Friendship, a gleefully discomfiting portrait of male bonding that delivers some of the year’s biggest laughs.

Robinson navigates an extremely fine line between lovable goof and creepy psycho in writer-director Andrew DeYoung’s fearless first feature, playing a klutzy man-child of a suburban dad whose everyman demeanor becomes short-circuited after being taken under the wing of a friendly neighbor (Paul Rudd).

Of course, it also doesn’t hurt to land the always game Rudd as the object of one’s obsession. Rudd is himself no stranger to bromantic comedies, having starred in 2009’s I Love You, Man, which plays like innocuous fluff in comparison to DeYoung and Robinson’s no-holds-barred approach to the subject.

The level of enjoyment audience members will have with Andrew DeYoung’s Friendship is tied directly to their tolerance for the humor of Tim Robinson. The star of the meme-inspiring Netflix series I Think You Should Leave has cultivated a devoted following by creating situations of embarrassment and characters who veer wildly from absurdist rage to complete self-delusion. (See the infamous “we’re all trying to find the guy who did this” meme.) In my mind, I Think You Should Leave is the funniest series of the last decade or so. While Robinson’s full-length feature as star does not reach his show’s highs, it’s still a hysterically funny, pitch-black comedy.

That feature is Friendship, and it is exactly what Robinson fans would expect and want. Not unlike the Tim Heidecker-starrer The Comedy, or even Larry David’s underrated Sour Grapes, Friendship sees a performer embracing discomfort and frustration for 90-or-so minutes.

Craig Waterman is a middle class suburbanite who works at an office company that makes their clients’ products more addictive — whether those products are apps, foods, or politicians. In lieu of friends, Craig is casual acquaintances with his co-workers, and he looks forward to seeing “the new Marvel” because he hears it’s so crazy that it’s literally driving people insane. His entire wardrobe comes from a company called Ocean View Dining, he’s obsessed with trying the “Seal Team 6” special at a local restaurant, and his wife Tami still kisses their teenage son on the mouth.

Let’s see if those famously kind Canadian audiences can convince Hollywood studios and streamers to bring the indies of this year’s Toronto International Film Festival back with them through customs.

As always, a promising crop of star-studded films are headed to TIFF in search of distribution. Some have tantalized audiences in Venice or Telluride, some showed only brief glimpses of their wares to early suitors in Cannes, and some are on the ground over the next week to make splashy debuts just in time for awards consideration.

“We’re still feeling the hangover of the past few years. The lingering impact of Covid, and of course the strikes,” said Jessamine Burgum, who runs the indie production shop Pinky Promise with partner Kara Durrett. Rebel Ridge stars Aaron Pierre in the lead role with Don Johnson, AnnaSophia Robb, David Denman, Steve Zissis, Dana Lee, and James Cromwell starring in supporting roles. Marvel’s forthcoming Fantastic Four film has revealed its official title.

During Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, the movie’s title was announced as Fantastic Four: First Steps. Additionally, Michael Giacchino, who won the Oscar for his score for Up, was announced as the composer on the film.

The team became available to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe following Disney’s acquisition of Fox.

Marvel’s First Family assembled at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday evening. A concept reel for the inaugural “Fantastic Four” installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was unveiled to Hall H attendees after an introduction by director Matt Shakman, giving fans a taste of the Space Age aesthetic that will be incorporated into the superhero feature. A title was also revealed: “The Fantastic 4: First Steps.”

“We’re doing a retro-future ’60s. Syd Mead was an inspiration. The ’60s, to me, is all about optimism,” Shakman told the audience, expanding on the film’s period setting while referencing the influential designer. “I love the Fantastic Four. I love their power set. We want to be true to the comics but we want to be true to life.”

Disney’s The Fantastic Four is gearing up to film at Pinewood Studios in the UK.

The film stars Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing. Matt Shakman, best known for Disney+ series WandaVision, is directing with a script from Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, Eric Pearson and Ian Springer.

It is the first Fantastic Four film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following Disney’s acquisition of Fox Studios in 2019.

While speaking on a podcast, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige suggested the film would be set in 1960s New York.

Brace yourself, Canada, “The Substance” is coming.

The explosive body horror film starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley, directed by French heatseeker Coralie Fargeat, has been set to open the Midnight Madness section at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

“Substance” follows Elizabeth Sparkle (Moore), an Oscar winner who commits the high crime of aging in Hollywood. Relegated to a morning fitness show, Sparkle’s world closes in on her when opportunities dry up — until a mysterious stranger offers her the titular substance, a chance at a more perfect version of herself. Sparing any spoilers, Qualley comes into play as the idealized version of Moore. The pair learns that coexisting ain’t easy in Fargeat’s violent fantasia.

Also on the lineup, veteran music video and film director Joseph Kahn will show “Ick,” a tribute to ‘80s creature features starring former TV Superman Brandon Routh and “American Beauty” actor Mena Suvari.

The Substance, a feminist horror pic where Demi Moore plays an aging Hollywood star who embraces a secret cloning procedure to save her career will open the Midnight Madness sidebar at the Toronto Film Festival with a North American premiere, organizers said Thursday.

The Cannes award winner from director Coralie Fargeat also stars Margaret Qualley and Dennis Quaid, and will hit theaters on Sept. 20.

Long before Vanessa Kirby was cast as the MCU’s version of the Invisible Woman, another actor took on the role of Sue Storm in the Fantastic Four. The beautiful Jessica Alba played the part in 2005’s production and its 2007 sequel. Almost 20 years later, the actress has some surprisingly nice things to say about the Fox-era Marvel movies.
