Television is a medium that has entertained us for a century. From using it to rewatch our favorite movies on cassette back in another time to tuning into the regularly scheduled programming each and every night, you were always better off when escaping into the countless adventures that TV could provide you with. That's one of the many reasons why TV shows have become such a staple of entertainment over the years.

There are plenty of shows to enjoy these days, from beloved procedurals to long-running medical dramas, TV is the home of so many of our favorite characters - and whether you're watching them on broadcast or the countless streaming services that have popped up over the past decade, we're all so appreciative of these characters and the storylines they find themselves partaking in.

But every so often, a show comes along that defines a generation. These days, there are multiple of them.

It's been a big year for television. From broadcast debuts that made an impact to long-awaited streaming phenomenons (that did indeed become streaming phenomenons), 2024 has had plenty of high-quality television to offer. And it's a good thing too, because this year was a little quieter on the cinematic front, as a number of major genre films that were supposed to premiere at some point in 2024 had to be delayed until next year.

But hey, TV had our back with plenty of excellent adventures to keep us entertained. Superman and Lois Lane returned for another season of superheroing on The CW, and they weren't the only iconic comic book duo who got in on the action. The Walking Dead Universe brought Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira back as Rick Grimes and Michonne in the heavily-anticipated The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, while Melissa McBride's Carol Peleteir joined bestie Norman Reedus...

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2, The Book of Carol, was a terrific season of television. The revolution in France hit a boiling point, with Daryl (Norman Reedus), Isabelle and Laurent at the epicenter, while Carol (Melissa McBride) flew across the Atlantic with Ash in hopes of reuniting with Daryl.

Following the conclusion of the season, we caught up with director Daniel Percival, who helmed three episodes, including the epic finale. Percival also directed the reunion between two of the franchise's most beloved characters. We asked Percival to explain what makes Daryl and Carol's partnership so compelling for audiences. "[It is] not a conventional love story but a love story nonetheless," he said. "They have a 'run-into-a-burning-building' kind of love. A deep care and compassion for one another that goes way beyond any romantic relationship. They will protect each other no matter what."

In the season 2 finale of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, both Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) fled France and ended up in England, where they meet a new survivor played by British comedian Stephen Merchant. But that's not their final destination; the bulk of season 3 is set in sunny Spain. And with the new location comes a new team of crew members working behind the scenes, offering us a new, never before seen angle on the zombie apocalypse.

Initially conceived as a “roadshow” set in the US and centered on the characters of Carol (Melissa McBride) and Daryl (Norman Reedus), the show then moved to France and lost McBride. The first season then built a new premise around Daryl stuck in France and contemplating a new life with nun Isabelle and her “chosen one” nephew Laurent. However, when McBride then returned to the show for the second season, it’s clear the decision was made to then pivot back to the original concept, but set in Europe.

These massive changes have left the show — and especially season 2, subtitled The Book of Carol — something of a jumble as the old version of the plot was phased out to make way for the new one. Despite this messy premise, the show...

AMC Networks — the company behind such cable channel brands as AMC, IFC and Sundance TV, as well as such streaming services as AMC+, Acorn TV and horror streamer Shudder — reported a 10 percent drop in third-quarter U.S. advertising revenue to $133 million on Friday. It cited “linear ratings declines and a challenging ad market, partly offset by digital and advanced advertising revenue growth.”

Quarterly affiliate revenue decreased 13 percent to $164 million, “primarily due to basic subscriber declines.”

After returning to streaming subscriber growth in the third quarter of last year after two quarters of declines, the company added around 200,000 users in the latest quarter to end September with a total of 11.8 million subs, compared with 11.6 million as of the end of June.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon wrapped its second season on AMC over the weekend, and viewers have now been given their first look at season three of The Walking Dead spin-off series. A short teaser trailer was released showing the continued adventures of Daryl and Carol as they try to find their way back home. Filming for season three has already begun.

New series regulars Eduardo Noriega, Óscar Jaenada, and Alexandra Masangkay will join Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride for season three as the pair travels through Spain. The season 2 finale of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon has arrived! Although both Losang and Genet are dead, that isn't stopping the survivors of both causes from continuing their mission of finding Laurent. Will Laurent be able to escape via Ash's airplane? Who will the third passenger in the airplane be?

The episode begins rather quickly, allowing Daryl to have one final conversation with Laurent while playing the guitar and allowing Carol one last attempt to apologize to Ash. In both cases, Daryl and Carol, without speaking to each other, have chosen themselves to stay behind.

What they don't realize is that the remnants of Losang and Genet's group is hot on their trail, finding Fallou and Codron while they search an abandoned mental hospital for supplies.

Production is currently underway for the new season, scheduled to premiere in 2025. In the season finale of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol, Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride’s O.G. zombie-fighters finally escape France, but not exactly as they hoped. Heading into the hour, the fan-favorite duo were set to split from one another, as clutch rescue pilot Ash (Manish Dayal) couldn’t fit them both on his plane. Daryl decides to stay, despite Carol wanting to take his place in the sacrifice play. In the end, both of them get to stick around, thanks to the last gasps of the French autocrat army showing up right before takeoff.

Outgunned, Daryl briefly appears outnumbered until Carol shows up right in the nick of time to save his hide.

In the pre-season promotion for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon — The Book of Carol, Norman Reedus repeatedly said he believed the finale was the best hour of The Walking Dead that had ever been made. Inevitably, it isn’t, but it’s a shame because while it cannot compete with the likes of "The Grove "or "Terminus," it’s not a bad episode. “Au Revoir Les Enfant” (Goodbye Children) gives us some vastly needed closure and the promise of a better future.

All of a sudden, the franchise can explore some of the world's most legendary locations, such as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, the Catacombs of Paris, and Mont Saint-Michel. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon has visited all of these locations, culminating in one spectacular spinoff.

Daryl Dixon season 2, The Book of Carol, is the last season of the show set in France. Moving into season 3, the production switches locations to Spain. In a recent interview with Collider, our titular duo discussed working in France, and what about it was so unique.

"There's a poetic, artistic history to the locations that we're shooting in that adds a lot to the show, not just visually," Reedus explained. "There are lines in the show that talk about how we've survived these types of things before.
