Pat Carroll, the gregarious Emmy-winning comedienne who was a television mainstay for decades before segueing to a voiceover career that included portraying the villainous sea witch Ursula in The Little Mermaid, has died. She was 95.

Carroll died Saturday of pneumonia at her home in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, her daughter Kerry Karsian told The Hollywood Reporter.

Carroll’s perky personality, screwball wit and impeccable timing made her a great second banana, and Red Buttons, Jimmy Durante, Mickey Rooney, Steve Allen and Charley Weaver were among those who called upon her to make their programs funnier. Her antics on Caesar’s Hour earned her an Emmy in 1957, and she was nominated for her work on the classic variety show the following year.

Director Sidney J. Furie specialized in brainy action films and his 1973 revenge fantasy starring Billy Dee Williams and Richard Pryor is no different. The duo plays two former military men who go rogue with a plan to wipe out a drug-dealing kingpin and his gang. Furie assembled an eclectic cast and crew including Gwen Welles as a hooked hooker and perennial sit-com sidekick Sid Melton as one of the vengeful soldiers of fortune. John Alonzo did the cinematography, the following year he was framing Chinatown.

I’ve wanted to review the two ‘programmers’ in this double-bill disc for some time, not realizing that I was really more interested in a producer associated with them. The name Robert L. Lippert pops up continually in the history of some of my favorite genre pictures.

Mary Grace Canfield, a veteran character actress who played handywoman Ralph Monroe on the television show "Green Acres," has died. She was 89. Her daughter, Phoebe Alexiades, says Canfield died of lung cancer on Saturday at a hospice in the California coastal town of Santa Barbara. Canfield had appearances on a number of TV shows during a four-decade career, including General Hospital and The Hathaways. She was Harriet Kravitz on four episodes of the 1960s series Bewitched. But she was best known for her role of Ralph Monroe in some 40 episodes of "Green Acres," which ran from 1965 to 1971 and starred Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor.

Canfield's death at a Santa Barbara hospice was confirmed by her daughter, Phoebe Alexiades, to the Los Angeles Times. Alexiades said Canfield died after a battle with lung cancer.

On Green Acres, Canfield played one half of the Ralph and Alf, brother-sister carpenter duo opposite Sid Melton. Their work on a farm house owned by city transplants Oliver (Eddie Albert) and Lisa (Eva Gabor) never seemed to end. The humor of Canfield’s role was in the character’s rejection of feminine standards, providing a comical foil for Gabor’s character.

In addition to Green Acres, Canfield appeared on TV in The Love Boat, Bewitched and daytime soap opera General Hospital. On the big screen, Canfield appeared in Pollyanna, Half a House and Something Wicked This Way Comes.

Veteran actor Sid Melton has died of pneumonia. He was 94.

The Golden Girls star passed away on 2 November in Burbank, California, reports Variety.com.

Melton began his career in the 1940s, starring in movies including film noir classic Body and Soul and the musical On the Town.

He moved to TV roles in 1954, and racked up credits in shows such as Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Rhoda, Major Dad, Dragnet, The Andy Griffith Show and The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour.

His TV career picked up in the 1990s as he appeared on sitcoms Make Room for Daddy, Blossom, Green Acres and Golden Girls.

Melton also tried his hand at directing, stepping behind the camera for Bad Girls Don't Cry in 1965 as well as ...And Call Me in the Morning in 1999.
