In the 1939 movie "The Wizard of Oz," Judy Garland's Dorothy Gale is flanked by three companions as she travels down the yellow brick road to meet the Wizard of Oz. These friends and protectors are known as the Cowardly Lion (Bert Lahr), the Scarecrow (Ray Bolger), and the Tin Man (Jack Haley), and while Dorothy wants to ask the Wizard to send her home, the Lion, Scarecrow, and Tin Man have agendas of their own. The Lion wants to ask him for courage, the Scarecrow would really love a brain, and as for the Tin Man, he simply wants a working heart.

On December 21, 1988, Pan Am Flight 103 exploded in mid-air over Lockerbie, Scotland, killing everyone on board and 11 people in the town below. That disaster is where Peacock’s new limited series gets its name, but the show focuses on Dr. Jim Swire (Colin Firth) and his decades long mission to answer major puzzling questions about what happened.
As with all on-screen dramatization, facts must serve the story from writer David Harrower, along with imagined scenes and dialogue, and very true details that feel stranger than fiction. But what are the key details in this case still largely shrouded in mystery? Read on for some key points about Lockerbie, almost 40 years after the attack.

Cynthia Erivo was “gutted” an intimate scene with Elphaba and Boq was cut from ‘Wicked’.The sequence would have seen Elphaba (Erivo) discuss Boq’s (Ethan Slater) forced relationship with her younger sister Nessarose (Marissa Bode) - who is only with her to impress his true love Glinda (Ariana Grande) - and the 37-year-old actress has admitted she was left disappointed when she found the moment was missing from the final version of the blockbuster.Speaking with Variety, Erivo said: “I love that scene so much, so I was gutted when it was not there.”Her co-star Grande added the scene had “one of [her] favourite lines” in the film when Boq admits his true feelings about Glinda to Elphaba. She said: “I love the train station scene with Boq and Elphaba. The majority of classic Christmas movies are American, but Britain has also produced a few holiday heartwarmers over the years. The most obvious example is Love Actually, which often features in conversations about the very best Christmas movies, but there are many more British Christmas movies, even if they don't all have big international audiences. Many of these Christmas movies feature famous faces from Hollywood blockbusters.
The worst Christmas movies are often accused of cheap sentimentality, but this is something that British movies tend to avoid, simply because there isn't the same abundance of Christmas content each year. The few that have any kind of lasting relevance tend to offer something different to American Christmas movies, either because they focus on British holiday traditions or because they have quirky British humor.

After premiering to incredible success at the end of 2024, Wicked could have secured itself an almost guaranteed Oscar nomination with a single addition that the sequel has already confirmed is happening. With $465 million under its belt, Wicked has proven to be one of the biggest movies of the year. Boasting a star-studded cast, outstanding musical performances, and vivid imagery, the movie has earned heaps of praise. Yet, even with all the love being thrown at Wicked right now, there is no guarantee that the film will earn award nominations come 2025, especially without one specific detail.
Wicked is eligible to take on just about any award, from Oscars to Golden Globes, yet the most obvious accolade the movie could have won is Best Original Song. As a musical, Wicked relies heavily on its soundtrack, and audiences have already fallen in love with the songs sung by the movie's leads, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.

Exclusive: “Unlimited”, Cynthia Erivo sings, “My future is unlimited.” The lyrics from The Wizard and I, a number from the musical Wicked, tumble sweetly, melodically – effortlessly – from her mouth. Such a moment could not have happened 10, 15 or even 20 years ago, because, the star reveals: “I was not ready.”
Erivo, 37, says that she first had to understand life in order to play Elphaba, the young woman with green pigmentation in a world of Caucasians, whose story she recounts breathtakingly in Universal’s movie musical extravaganza Wicked.
Directed by Jon M. Chu, the film is based on Gregory Maguire’s novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, and the long running Broadway show it’s adapted from, with a book by Winnie Holzman and music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. John M. Chu's Wicked is only the first part of the beloved musical's story, and there are several questions left unanswered by the time the credits roll. Much of the narrative's most interesting twists and turns take place in the second part, but Chu's movie does a commendable job of setting up these key moments with the first film's conclusion. However, Wicked already changed some storylines from the original book, and Nessarose's (played by Marissa Bode) character arc seems to suggest that her fate in Wicked: Part Two may surprise even the most dedicated of fans.

Netflix's charming new Christmas movie, That Christmas, is now streaming and features a star-studded cast. One of several new Christmas movies in 2024, That Christmas tells the story of the fictional town, Wellington-on-Sea, which faces an unprecedented snowstorm just before Christmas Day. Not only does this pose significant difficulties for Santa Claus as he attempts to deliver the presents, but it also means that many of the children in town end up separated from their parents on Christmas Eve.
That Christmas was co-written by Richard Curtis, who also wrote and directed the Christmas classic Love Actually, one of the best Christmas movies for rom-com fans. "Peaky Blinders" might often focus on Cillian Murphy's tough Tommy Shelby, but the crime drama isn't exactly short on important members of his extended family. One of them is Tommy's tormented big brother Arthur Shelby Jr. (Paul Anderson), who ranks among the most recognizable and prominent protagonists of the series.
Anderson plays Arthur as a troubled, seething man who has rage to spare but can't quite match his younger brother's wits. Especially early in the series, the character's hot-headed nature, weaknesses, and personal demons make him an unlikely candidate to see the end of the show. This is something Anderson was extremely well aware of while filming the sophomore season. As such, he and John Shelby actor Joe Cole took to the habit of making their own grim predictions about the plans series creator Steven Knight might have for them. In 2015, Anderson shared some of their discussions with Interview...

Wicked was one of the biggest films of 2024, adapting the hugely popular 2003 Broadway musical, in turn based on the 1995 book Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. The film was a huge hit commercially and critically, even while released alongside some other massive films that saw similar success. One of the biggest reasons for Wicked's great reviews was its characters, as the film boasts a large cast made up of plenty of interesting individuals, even those who don't get very much screen time.
One of these characters is Elphaba's (Cynthia Erivo) childhood nanny, a bear who is known colloquially as Nanny Bear, and alternatively Dulcibear (Sharon D. Clarke). She is a very minor character when compared to the rest of Wicked's cast, showing up in the beginning flashback scene that explains Elphaba's birth and childhood, and then disappearing for the rest of the movie.

Spoilers for "Wicked" follow.
At the outset of the production of the "Wicked" movie, it wasn't entirely clear what director Jon M. Chu and company were planning to do with the daunting prospect of adapting both Gregory Maguire's novel and the stage musical by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman to the big screen. Initially conceived and announced as a single film, Chu ended up revealing shortly before principal photography commenced in 2022 that the movie would be split into two parts. Chu stated that the reason for this is because "As we tried to cut songs or trim characters, those decisions began to feel like fatal compromises to the source material that has entertained us all for so many years." Schwartz echoed Chu's sentiments, adding that the song "Defying Gravity," which is the close of the first act in the musical, is "written specifically to bring a curtain down, and...

Warning: This article contains Major Spoilers for Wicked: Part 1!
The Wicked: Part 1 soundtrack featuring actors Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande offers a new take on the beloved Broadway songs, making the album appealing long after leaving the movie theater. Since their official announcement back in 2012, the Wicked movies were highly anticipated on a global scale due to the A-list actors and the story connected to The Wizard of Oz. The popularity of Wickeds Obc album also increased excitement. After the Broadway show was released in 2003, the original soundtrack became the fifth-best-selling cast recording of all time (via Playbill).
As such, the songs in the two-part Wicked movie adaptation needed to be perfect. Luckily, the producers mainly chose cast members with musical theater backgrounds, giving them the skills necessary to handle the challenging music composed by Stephen Schwartz. The choice paid off with all the songs in Wicked: Part 1 bolstering the magical ambiance and exciting storyline.

Piglets series 2 has been confirmed by ITV, with the cast and crew returning for a new bunch of episodes. More here.
Green Wing is one of the most memorable comedies of the early 2000s. Richard Curtis returns to festive filmmaking with That Christmas, which streams on Netflix next month. Here’s the trailer.
Love it or loathe it, there is no denying that Richard Curtis’ Love Actually is a modern Christmas favourite for many. With its saccharine stories of love, lust and, in the case of Andrew Lincoln’s character – let’s be honest – stalking, the film has indelibly inked itself into the fabric of the festive season. It’s almost become a tradition to run an article contributing to the Love Actually debate – and who knows, one year we might even get around to it (we won’t – Ed).
Curtis returned to Christmas films last year with Genie, starring Melissa McCarthy and Paapa Essiedu, a big budget remake of his terrific 1991 television film Bernard And The Genie, which starred Alan Cumming, Lenny Henry and Rowan Atkinson – both films are available to stream on Sky Cinema.

In her review, The Hollywood Reporter‘s Lovia Gyarkye praised the “charming animation” while adding that the movie “slyly avoids the usual mawkishness by grounding its whimsical story in the real and prickly emotions of life.

That Christmas begins with a familiar dilemma: It’s Christmas Eve and Santa must navigate treacherous weather while delivering his highly anticipated gifts.
We meet the benevolent legend, voiced here by Brian Cox, as he rides through a nasty winter storm of strong winds and low visibility. A terrible illness has left him with only one reindeer (Guz Khan) to pull the sleigh. Tensions between the two are so high that Santa, at one point, threatens to get a self-driving vehicle next winter. But while the odds are not in our hero’s favor, the happiness of children around the world — and especially those in the fictional English coastal town in which the narrative is set — depends on him overcoming them.

We just got confirmation of what we long suspected: the upcoming movie version of “Wicked” will close with “Defying Gravity,” which ended the first act on Broadway. We learned this from the listing of tracks on the soundtrack, which is available for pre-order. It is due to drop on the day that the movie is released: Nov. 22.
Expect Cynthia Erivo to leave audiences wanting more when she sings this show-stopper as her character, Elphaba, transforms into the Wicked Witch. But they’ll have to wait a full year to see the second half of the story with “Wicked Part Two,” set for release on Nov. 26, 2025. Jon M. Chu (“Crazy Rich Asians”) directed both movies while Winnie Holzman, who reaped a Tony bid for the Broadway book, wrote the screenplay with Dana Fox (“Cruella”).

Jim Carter, who famously played Carson the master butler on Downton Abbey, clearly was taken by the leading artist giving a terrifically moving performance as Dolly Gallagher Levi upon the London Palladium stage. “That’s my wife,” he declared during the interval.
Indeed it was. Imelda Staunton was creating a gold-standard portrait of the meddlesome fixer at the heart of the landmark musical Hello, Dolly! created by Jerry Herman and Michael Stewart from Thornton Wilder’s The Matchmaker.
“It’s a brilliant production,” Carter told me.

“The problem is,” he continued, ”I can’t see anyone else on stage. I can only look at her. I’m sitting there going, ‘Wow!’”
Totally understandable, because the other 2,200 members of the audience were falling in love with her as well.

Exclusive: Imelda Staunton, swathed in glamorous red taffeta, descends a staircase on the London Palladium stage to lead a line of eager waiters in a chorus of “one of our favorite songs from way back when” from Hello, Dolly!
”Let’s reset,” a production assistant’s voice suddenly booms over the pubic address system.
We’re at a rehearsal run-through of a brand-spanking-new revival of the classic Jerry Herman and Michael Stewart musical adapted from Thornton Wilder’s The Matchmaker, starring an outstanding Staunton as Mrs. Dolly Gallagher Levi, a widow who over the course of just one day emerges from grief to rediscover life again.
The show started previews last Saturday where it was rapturously received, but the creative team knows there’s still work to do before official opening night July 18.

Piglets, a new sitcom from the writers of Green Wing, is heading to Itvx soon. Here’s the trailer to prove it:
Green Wing is one of the most memorable comedies of the early 2000s. Following the trials and tribulations of the staff who populate East Hampton Hospital, the writing was frequently silly and surreal, and it featured star making turns from the likes of Tamsin Greig, Stephen Mangan and Michelle Gomez.
Underrated comedy Campus followed a similar scenario, this time in the fictional Kirke University, where Andy Nyman’s domineering don Jonty De Wolfe ruled with an iron fist. That series has also built up quite a fanbase, and rightly so. Now? There’s more for that fanbase to look forward to as well.
That’s because the same creative team has now created Piglets, which will be on Itvx soon. The synopsis reads as follows:

There’s a creative freedom to the horror anthology; they’re not tethered to one central narrative, style, tone, or even voice. Some anthology collections unite multiple filmmakers, each taking on a segment. Some employ a single director for cohesion. Even the framework in which the film weaves its tales varies, whether by conventional wraparound or a complete remix.
For the viewer, anthologies offer a grab bag of bite-sized horror treats; there’s no telling what kind of horror the next segment will bring. This week’s streaming picks highlight horror anthologies that run the gamut from classic anthology format to experimental, from lighthearted to bone-chilling.

Cult classic sitcom Green Wing has been resurrected as a podcast with the original cast and creative team.
Back in 2004, fresh from the success of sketch show Smack The Pony, writer Victoria Pile created Green Wing, a sitcom set in a hospital.
With an ensemble cast that included Tamsin Greig and Stephen Mangan – who would later reunite to star opposite Matt LeBlanc in Episodes – the comedy is helped enormously by committed clowning the cast, particularly Mark Heap and Michelle Gomez. The show ran for two series from 2004 to 2006 and, in a move more in common with American sitcoms, had a large pool of writers.
After the show ended, the same creative team made the terrific University comedy Campus in 2009, which despite only running for one series is well worth tracking down, especially for the tour de force performance from Andy Nyman as megalomaniacal monster and Vice Chancellor Jonty De Wolfe.
