Josh Keaton first lent his voice to Peter Parker in The Spectacular Spider-Man animated series and he's since reprised the role in several video games (his animated Spidey also made a surprise appearance in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse).

In recent years, Keaton has taken on the role of Steve Rogers/Captain America in What If...? and X-Men '97. Hudson Thames, meanwhile, plays the titular wall-crawler in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man's premiere offered few insights into how Peter Parker gained his amazing abilities beyond the obvious. The finale, however, ties everything together with the aptly named "If This Be My Destiny..."

The episode opens with Spidey stopping a car theft as Nico Minoru helpfully buys him some time at school. Things between Peter and Pearl Pangan also develop somewhat when she calls him "Peter" for the first time. 

At Oscorp, Norman Osborn introduces Peter and his fellow interns to Project Monolith. It turns out the experiments they were working on helped create a device that opens a door into the cosmos, giving the company access to the sort of instant space travel utilised by Thor and the Chitauri.

So far, Ultimate Spider-Man (2024) has been an amazing and wholesome ride. Sure, there was that one time when the Kingpin brutally beat the friendly neighborhood hero to the point of near death. But that exception aside: It's been mostly smooth sailing for Peter Parker — especially considering how supportive his family has been. His wife, Mary Jane, came up with the "Spider-Man" title. Furthermore, his daughter, May, designed his super suit. It was all going well during the first issues of the series, but readers quickly discovered they were merely witnessing the calm before the storm.

Kraven the Hunter recently kidnapped Peter, and it's been more than one month since anybody has seen the Daily Bugle photographer. Usually, that would also mean Spidey is out of the picture as well. But in a shocking twist of events, Richard Parker — Peter's son — rose up to the occasion and took over the Spider-Man mantle.

Oh what a tangled web we weave when the multiverse becomes part of Spider-Man canon. The Spider-Man film franchise started simply enough, with 2002’s “Spider-Man.” Fast forward 20 years and three different actors have played live-action versions of the Wall Crawler, with the trio joining forces in 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”

The most recent Spidey flick wasn’t just a fun family reunion. It also led to Marvel verifying the existence of the multiverse in its live-action productions. As the former Sorcerer Supreme Doctor Strange says in the film, “The multiverse is a concept about which we know frighteningly little.”

While the establishment of the multiverse has a still yet-to-be-determined impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in the present it can make watching Spider-Man movies in order a little complicated.

When you think of movies with alternate endings, we'd imagine the likes of Blade Runner and I Am Legend immediately come to mind.

While studios do occasionally test contrasting endings, that's rare, and it obviously helps any movie to have a definitive conclusion set in stone when cameras start rolling. Sony has been struggling to find the secret formula to make their Spider-Verse movies satisfy audiences in the same way Marvel Studios has managed for the last decade-plus. Boiled down, it seems to come form a lack of coherent vision and weak scripts.

The critical despair and box office indifference to Madame Web is misplaced because it’s not the worst of the lot, but viewers are clearly tired of Sony misfires, which doesn’t bode well for the forthcoming Kraven.

The incredibly weak script from director Sj Clarkson, Matt Sazama, Burk Sharpless, and Claire Parke mars the potential found deep within the very disappointing Madame Web, out now from Sony Home Entertainment. The basic premise that four women are brought together as part of a woven tapestry of spider-powers is fine, as is importing Ezekiel (Tahar Rahim) from the Spider-Man comics to be the bad guy.

However, the script them all.

Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man series may not have ended in a trilogy, but it surely won a lot of hearts for his portrayal of Peter Parker. There are not a lot of Marvel heroes with a tragic story like the beloved webhead, but he still manages to smile through the clouds of sorrow.

Something that every Spider-Man tale has in common, other than his suffering, is that he is an orphan, having lost both his parents at a young age. Not much is known about them through the films, just that they were scientists and worked for a secret organization. However, a deleted scene from Tasm 2 changes a lot of things.

The alternate ending, if kept, would have softened the heartbreaking blow Peter received when Gwen Stacy died and would have given him the much-needed motivation to wear his iconic mask back once again.

Ultimate Spider-Man reimagines Peter Parker's origin story, making his father, Richard Parker, the one who invented the web fluid that powers Spider-Man's web-shooters. In the Ultimate universe, Richard Parker's death motivates Peter to complete his father's unfinished molecular adhesive formula, leading to the creation of his own web fluid. Ultimate Peter Parker is depicted as a young and inexperienced superhero, who is extra reliant on the guidance and mentorship of his father and uncle, highlighting the importance of support in his journey.

Though there are several aspects of Ultimate Marvel's Spidey that are quite faithful to the original story, Ultimate Spider-Man offered a modernized retelling of Peter Parker's origin, changing the young superhero's history in a number of ways. One update changes the genesis of Spider-Man's web fluid – originally Peter's most famous invention – by making it someone else's idea in the first place.

One deleted scene from Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 would have set Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker on a completely different narrative course. Following Spider-Man and Gwen as they deal with Oscorp and the newly-created Electro, the film mixes effective and genuine emotional beats with confusing and overly-long narrative set-ups that are never followed through on. However, including one deleted scene would help some parts of the movie make more sense.

The ending of "Life of Pi" hinges on a single question: which story do you prefer? It's a question posed as much from one character to another as it is from the movie to the audience. Ang Lee's Oscar-winning 2012 adaptation of the Yann Martel novel, "Life of Pi," raises the storytelling stakes about as high as they can go, as the adult Pi Patel (Irrfan Khan), tells a tale of survival at sea that is said to be so powerful it will make the listener/viewer believe in God.

It's been over 40 years since Texas housewife Candy Montgomery killed her friend Betty Gore with an axe on June 13, 1980. In an upcoming limited series titled "Candy," Hulu will shine some light on the chilling events leading up to Gore's untimely death. Elisabeth Moss, who was originally set to play Candy, departed the project due to scheduling conflicts, and the title role will now be played by Jessica Biel, as seen in the series's teaser clips.

In the latest trailer, released on April 13, the series - which will also star Melanie Lynskey, Timothy Simons, Pablo Schreiber, and Raúl Esparza - offers more backstory on Candy before digging into Gore's murder. When Richard’s girlfriend Sasha and best friend Jonah give him a spear gun for his birthday, he wants to try it out straight away. The three of them set out for a day trip on a boat, but suspicion and jealousy soon start to get the upper hand. When the boat’s engine fails with no supplies on board, a nerve-wracking struggle for survival ensues that spares nobody’s secrets – or blood.

Wealthy Richard (Christopher Gray) is prone to fits of violent anger, particularly when he believes his girlfriend Sasha (Emily Tyra) is cheating on him with his best friend Jonah (Munro Chambers) — who’s been having worse luck than even his Biblical namesake. Once they reassure him that his fears are unfounded, Richard invites Sasha and Jonah on an excursion aboard his yacht The Naughty Buoy to make amends.

Writer/director Rob Grant wastes zero time getting us in the right frame of mind with Brett Gelman’s perfectly sardonic voice narrating an auspiciously violent collision of three close friends caught in a lovers’ misunderstanding. Harpoon‘s first scene provides effect—a stranded yacht in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean with “Sos” duct taped to the deck—while the second supplies cause as Jonah (Munro Chambers) gets his face punched in by best friend Richard (Christopher Gray) with the latter’s long-term partner Sasha (Emily Tyra) imploring him to stop. Move those temperamental seeds of mistrust to a boat’s tight quarters and we can guess why the vessel will eventually find itself in distress. The question then becomes which, if any, of those passengers will be alive to accept help.

When a movie hits big out of the blue, it’s unwritten Hollywood law that the imitators aren’t too far behind. That’s why, after American Pie brought Porky’s-esque sex-tinged (late) teen comedies back to prominence in 1999, the box office was flooded with similar fare for years after. The Blair Witch Project, meanwhile, hit out of nowhere, and found footage horror is only now dying away. The late Wes Craven, meanwhile, wryly noted just how quickly Hollywood had cashed in on the success of 1996’s Scream, when spoof Scary Movie popped out the year after.
