- Karl Platen was born on March 6, 1877 in Halle, Germany. He was an actor and cinematographer, known for M (1931), Woman in the Moon (1929) and Deception (1920). He died on July 4, 1952 in Weimar, German Democratic Republic.
- Incisive German character actor. On stage from 1896, and from 1906 to 1944 based at various theatres in Berlin. In films from early silents, immensely busy throughout the 1920's, 30's and 40's, often in prestige pictures by renowned directors, including Joe May, Ernst Lubitsch and Fritz Lang.
- His first movies can be backdated to 1913 where he appeared in "Ein Ausgestossener: 1. Teil - Der junge Chef" and "Das verschleierte Bild von Gross-Kleindorf". From 1919 he became a very busy film actor who took part in many big productions.
