Unfortunately, Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens didn't join their co-stars from the original movies to make a cameo on the spinoff.

But that doesn't mean we didn't get any indication about where Troy and Gabriella's relationship is in 2023.

A bunch of old friends are set to join the fourth season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

Original High School Musical franchise cast members Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman, Lucas Grabeel, Bart Johnson, Alyson Reed and Kaycee Stroh will join the Disney+ series that’s executive produced by Tim Federle.

Also joining the cast this season are Kylie Cantrall, Matthew Sato, Caitlin Reilly and Vasthy Mompoint in recurring guest star roles. Season four of the series will feature songs from the High School Musical franchise as well as original music. Disney+ has yet to announce a drop date for the new season.

You could say the boys (and girls) are back: “High School Musical” originals Corbin Bleu (“Chad”), Monique Coleman (“Taylor”), Lucas Grabeel (“Ryan”), Bart Johnson (“Coach Bolton”), Alyson Reed (“Ms. Darbus”) and Kaycee Stroh (“Martha”) have joined the cast of Disney+’s spinoff show “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” Season 4.

The actors will play themselves as they reprise their own “High School Musical” roles after Disney announces it will make the long-awaited “High School Musical 4: The Reunion” movie at East High.

Season 4 will also see recurring guest stars Kylie Cantrall (“Gabby Duran & The Unsittables”), Matthew Sato, Caitlin Reilly (“Hacks”) and Vasthy Mompoint (“The Prom”).

Cantrall will play social media star Dani; Sato will star as sitcom actor Mack; Reilly is indie film director Quinn; and Mompoint will portray choreographer Krystal.

You may not have seen A Chorus Line but most everyone knows the song “One” thanks to its endless use in other productions (think Treehouse of Horror V, Phineas and Ferb, Scrubs) throughout the years. Since the play debuted Off-Broadway in 1975, it has gone on to become one of the best known musicals of the latter 20th Century. One reason it endured a run of 6137 performances on Broadway was its emotional honesty, bare bones set, and soul-bearing songs. As conceived by Michael Bennett, it was brought to life by Marvin Hamlisch (music), Edward Kleban (lyrics), and James Kirkwood Jr. (book) at a time when everyone was doing a little soul searching.

By the time the 1985 film adaptation from director Sir Richard Attenborough arrived, it was heralded as a return of the musical to the movies. Unfortunately, the so-so movie failed to ignite that revival and was mostly rejected by those who adored the film.

Katharine McPhee's character might be up for the role of Marilyn Monroe on NBC's Smash, but on next week's episode (Monday, 10 p.m. Et), she proves she's still a "Redneck Woman" at heart.
