Samir Rehem is a Canadian film and television director, best known for his 2007 short film The Answer Key, which earned a Genie Award nomination for Best Live Action Short Drama at the 29th Genie Awards in 2009. Originally from Fonthill, Ontario, Samir's path to directing began with a strong foundation in education, having studied at both York University and Ryerson University. He initially entered the film and television industry as a production assistant, gradually climbing the ranks to become an editor on high-profile programs like Citytv's MovieTelevision and FashionTelevision. This hands-on experience provided him with a deep understanding of the craft and industry, which eventually led him to direct his first independent feature, Invitation, in 2001. Since then, Samir has primarily worked in television, directing a wide array of episodes for series such as Chucky, The Chi, Coroner, The Guest Book, Skins, Killjoys, In the Dark, What Would Sal Do?, Private Eyes, Tiny Pretty Things, Degrassi, The Cleaning Lady, Transplant, Orphan Black: Echoes, and Revival, among many others. His versatile directorial style has allowed him to tackle a variety of genres and formats, from drama and comedy to horror and youth programming. Throughout his career, Samir has earned numerous accolades and nominations for his work. He received a Gemini Award nomination for Best Direction in a Comedy Program or Series at the 24th Gemini Awards for his work on the Testees episode "Herfume". In 2013, he was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award for Best Direction in a Children's or Youth Program for his work on The Next Step episode "Sabotage". Samir also earned a Prism Prize nomination in 2015 for directing Kevin Drew's music video "You in Your Were", and in 2017, he was nominated for a Director's Guild of Canada Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Comedy Series for the pilot of What Would Sal Do?. In 2008, Samir won a Canadian Comedy Award for his direction of a television episode, Cock'd Gunns. This recognition further cemented his reputation as a director capable of delivering both sharp comedic timing and visual storytelling. An active member of the Directors Guild of America (DGA) and the Directors Guild of Canada (DGC), Samir is based in Toronto, where he continues to contribute to both film and television.
