The most glorious moment of Mira Nair's career as a filmmaker occurred at the Venice Film Festival earlier this month. Recalls Mira with a tremble in her voice, "I suddenly saw this frail old woman walking towards me. When she introduced herself as Teresa Ricci, wife of Gillo Pontecorvo who has made one of my ten favourite films of all time The Battle Of Algiers, I froze. Before I could tell her how much her husband's movie meant to me and how deeply it had influenced the philosophy of The Reluctant Fundamentalist, she told me in her measured voice, 'My husband's soul lives in your film.'
