After moving from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Hollywood she signed a
movie contract with Universal. In the 1930s, she appeared in a few
films while at that studio and launched her stage career by 1938. Her
Broadway debut was as Calpurnia in an Orson Welles' production of
"Julius Caesar." She maintained a busy career onstage in the USA as
well as in England. Some performances include acting in "Time Out For
Ginger," "Richard III," "No Strings" and as the imperious Vera Charles
in "Auntie Mame" in New York City. Her TV roles included parts in "The
Defenders" and "Alfred Hitchcock Presents."
