Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga drives onto home video on August 13 via Warner Bros. The fifth installment in the post-apocalyptic action franchise is presented on 4K Ultra HD with Dolby Vision/Hdr and Dolby Atmos audio.

Mad Max creator George Miller directs from a script he co-wrote with Nico Lathouris (Mad Max: Fury Road). Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, Alyla Browne, and Lachy Hulme star.

Off!, the hardcore supergroup led by singer Keith Morris and guitarist Dimitri Coats (ex-Burning Brides), have announced a run of final shows to coincide with the release of their new feature film, Free LSD.

The three final shows will take place July 18th at Lincoln Hall in Chicago (with Shellac); July 20th at (Le) Poisson Rouge in New York City (with Fucked Up); and July 26th at The Belasco in Los Angeles (with Surfbort).

Each of those cities will also feature an advance screening of the movie along with a Q&a: July 17th at Music Box Theatre in Chicago; July 19th at Village East by Angelika in NYC; and August 2nd at Nuart Theatre in Los Angeles. Tickets for both the shows and film screenings can be purchased here.

Now in its 29th iteration, next year’s Slamdance Film Festival––which will also be providing programming both in-person and online, from January 20th through 29th––has unveiled its features slate. The lineup for the festival, which opens with Moby’s Punk Rock Vegan Movie, was culled from 7,600 total submissions, 1,522 of which were features. All films selected in the Narrative Features and Documentary Features competition categories are directorial debuts without U.S. distribution, with budgets of less than 1 million Usd.

In addition to Slamdance’s opening night film Moby’s “Punk Rock Vegan Movie,” the festival will also showcase two additional Spotlight Feature screenings: “Downwind” and “Free LSD,” which follows one man’s inter-dimensional journey where, after using an experimental drug, he is provided a glimpse into a parallel universe. Punk legends the Circle Jerks have teased a 2020 reunion tour to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their 1980 hardcore punk classic Group Sex.

Circle Jerks will perform their first show together since 2011 at Las Vegas’ Punk Rock Bowling music festival on the weekend of May 21st, 2020, with more gigs expected to be announced.

The prize for best direction of 1991 ought to have gone to Alex Cox, whose visual economy in this show is to be applauded. Cox’s camera is fluid, expressive yet technically invisible and unencumbered with fancy tricks: the frame never goes static, yet the film has only a couple of hundred cuts! Filmed in Spanish in Mexico, we get a non-cynical image of a culture and a story that’s universally applicable. Mexican neorealism? Roberto Sosa is an idealistic young recruit, who learns that reality is pretty rough out on the lonesome, deadly highway.

Chicago – One of the many things I love about The Criterion Collection is the even battlefield that it creates within its own archives. A film by Alfred Hitchcock or Akira Kurosawa or Charles Chaplin can sit next to a cult hit like “Repo Man.” I grew up in the era of “Repo Man“‘s growing cult status and it’s amazing to me to see this midnight movie given the same level of respect as films widely recognized as classics. “Repo Man” is a classic in its own way and the people at Criterion recognize that. Fans of the movie, and there are Many, will be more than satisfied.

Prometheus (20th Century Fox) Ridley Scott’s quasi-prequel to his 1979 classic “Alien” has an intergalactic exploratory team (Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba) arriving on a uncharted planet, where they discover what appears to be a dormant alien spacecraft and what might be the first discovery of intelligent life outside of Earth. Of course, everything goes straight to hell before you can scream “Don’t touch that egg!” Sumptuous visuals and strong performances from the cast (not to mention a nearly-perfect first half) can’t compensate for gaping plot and logic holes that nearly sink the proceedings in the film’s protracted second half. It feels as though some very crucial footage wound up on the cutting room floor. Perhaps, as with “Alien” and “Aliens” we’ll see a “Director’s Cut” of “Prometheus” arriving on DVD within the next year. In the meantime,...

What is Repo Man all about? The enduring debut of Alex Cox, it’s a melting pot of bizarre ideas, philosophical musings and potent social commentary, yet it’s quite hard to define exactly what the abiding message is. There’s certainly fear of the bomb, echoes of government conspiracy and the Roswell cover-up, talk of revolution in Latin America (one of Cox’s major themes), and a few very funny pops at religion. But aside from bringing together these disparate elements from the fringes of American life, what does it have to say? Perhaps it’s a fairly nihilistic film. In it’s comic juxtaposition of so many contradictory moral and spiritual codes, perhaps it’s fair to say that Repo Man’s anarchic central philosophy is that nothing really matters.

Filmmaker Alex Cox's kooky comedy Repo Chick - the "official non-sequel" to his 1984 sci-fi cult classic Repo Man - is to get a Us theatrical release this month as it heads to DVD and Blu-ray.

It will open theatrically at the IFC Center in New York on January 14 and at the Downtown Independent in Los Angeles on January 21.

It will then hit stores on DVD and Blu-ray on February 8, as confirmed by Disc Dish.

Repo Chick was shot 98 per cent on greenscreen and also incorporated miniature sets and stop-motion animation.

Among the stars of the upcoming new movie Repo Chick - Alex Cox's so-called "official non-sequel" to his 1984 sci-fi cult classic Repo Man - is Us actor/writer/producer Danny Arroyo. 

The film, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival in September, is co-produced by David Lynch's production company (Eraserhead, Dune, The Elephant Man, Twin Peaks) and produced by Daren Hicks and Simon Tams (producers of Batman: Dead End, Searchers 2.0, Hunter Prey).

The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema at the Ritz has a very long and storied history. Built in 1929 by L.L. Hegman, The Ritz was the first theatre in Austin to be built specifically for "talkies". After television stole our minds and kept the audience at home, the theater took a cultural hiatus from 1964 until 1970, when it reopened as an XXX theater. Then in the early 80’s, The Ritz turned to a different breed of hardcore- it became a legendary home to the burgeoning Austin punk rock scene, hosting bands like Black Flag, The Misfits, Hüsker Dü, The Circle Jerks, The Dead Kennedys and Minor Threat.
