“Kneecap” — the Irish-language music biopic that became one of the buzziest indie films of 2024 and is now tipped for both Oscar and BAFTA recognition — has, perhaps unsurprisingly, emerged far ahead of the pack of nominees for the 2025 Irish Film & TV Academy (IFTA) awards.
Rich Peppiatt’s raucous comedy, about (and starring) the Belfast rap trio of the same name, has landed an astonishing 17 nominations for the awards, including best film, director, three of the six slots for lead actor, three of the six for supporting actress and one for Michael Fassbender in the supporting actor category.
“Small Things Like These,” the considerably quieter Irish drama fronted (and produced) by Cillian Murphy has nine nominations, including lead actor for Murphy, who won the award last year for “Oppenheimer.”
Having been co-produced by Irish company Tailored Films, Ali Abbasi’s Donald Trump biopic “The Apprentice” is also in the mix, with four nominations.

The Stanislavsky Method, also known simply as method acting, refers to a school of thought that actors should try to inhabit their characters as fully as possible. Rather than simply acting out the words and emotions they are portraying, actors should actually feel those things, getting themselves as fully into the mind of their role as they can. Over the years, this has come to mean that method actors try to stay in character as much as possible, even when the cameras aren't rolling.
Modern method acting is, understandably, controversial. It can make sets a difficult place to work, selfishly wrapping co-stars and even crew members into an actor's preparation process. Natalie Portman made a great point too, when she told The Wall Street Journal that method isn't a technique available to everybody. "I've gotten very into roles, but I think it's honestly a luxury that women can't afford. I...

Colin Firth will headline Lockerbie, a Sky drama about the real-life tragedy. Here are some details about the production…
Rightly or wrongly, the British television industry often uses true life tragedies as the basis for drama. As proven with Gwyneth Hughes’ brilliant Mr Bates And The Post Office, such dramas, when done right, can provoke discussion on a national scale.
The latest true-life tragedy to make its way to the screen is Lockerbie, which will chronicle the aftermath of the horrific events of the 21st December 1988, when a bomb caused Pam Am Flight 103 to crash over the Scottish town, killing 270 people.
Scottish playwright David Harrower, whose film Una, based on his play Blackbird, is well worth seeking out, will act as lead writer, with Maryam Hamidi writing an episode. They adapted their scripts from the book The Lockerbie Bombing: A Father’s Search For Justice, which Swire co-wrote with Peter Biddulph.

The British broadcaster and U.S. streamer will co-produce Lockerbie, a factual drama that will explore the joint investigation into the 1988 disaster by Scottish and American authorities.
Pan Am Flight 103 was en route from Heathrow to JFK when a bomb exploded in its hold over the small Scottish town of Lockerbie, killing 270 people. It was the worst terror attack ever on British soil.
Line of Duty producer World Productions is making the six-part series in association with MGM Television and Night Train Media. It was developed by MGM and Night Train alongside filmmaker Adam Morane-Griffiths, who initially brought the project to the partners alongside Sara Curran back in 2020.

Since he was nominated for both an Oscar and a BAFTA (which he later won) for his scene-stealing supporting performance in The Banshees of Inisherin, there’s been much talk about Barry Keoghan’s inspiring rise to fame.
As will likely be etched into Irish folklore as his Hollywood trajectory continues its sharp ascent, the Dubliner — born in one of the city’s most disadvantaged neighborhoods — would spend seven years in foster homes as a child. It was only around 2008, aged 16, when Keoghan’s love of movies was piqued by an ad in a shop window looking for actors for a new crime drama that was being shot locally. Three years later, he landed a role in Irish TV series Love/Hate (which would become a breeding ground for young Irish talent), followed by 2014’s indie hit ‘72, before breaking out internationally in 2017 with both Dunkirk and The Killing of a Sacred Deer.

Peacock and Britain’s Sky TV are teaming up for a new mini-series dramatizing the events of Lockerbie, the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103. The show will follow the search for justice made by Dr. Jim Swire and his wife Jane who lost their daughter, Flora, in the disaster. A five-part event, the series is being written by Academy Award-nominated talents, Jim Sheridan and Kirsten Sheridan (above). All 259 passengers and crew perished when a bomb exploded over Lockerbie, Scotland, 38 minutes after taking off. Additionally, 11 residents of the town lost their lives as a result of the crash. Thirteen years later, in 2001, Libyan national Abdelbaset al-Megrahi was convicted of the crime. But that wasn’t the end of the saga as he was later released on compassionate grounds in 2009. Dr. Jim Swire (Graham Barclay/bwp media/Newsmakers) Following the bombing, which is still considered one of the worst terrorist attacks in history,...

Not to be confused with Asif Kapadia’s acclaimed documentary about the late singer that released earlier this year, Screen Daily has revealed that a second Amy Winehouse biopic has entered pre-production. Irish filmmaker Kirsten Sheridan (Dollhouse, August Rush) will write and direct the biographical feature, which has its crosshairs placed on The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo starlet Noomi Rapace to assume the title role.
Understood to be in the very early stages, source close to the project claim that Rapace is “in talks” to star as the record-breaking songstress, who tragically passed away from alcohol poisoning in July 2011. She was 27. No word yet on an official title for the new drama, though we imagine it won’t stray too far from the instantly recognizable – and therefore easily marketable – name of the late soul singer.

It's been four years since Amy Winehouse tragically passed away, all too young, at the age of twenty-seven, but 2015 has been something of a celebration of her life. Earlier this year, Asif Kapadia released his documentary "Amy" which spun the tale of singer's life with carefully constructed archival footage, and now, Winehouse is getting the big screen biopic treatment. Read More: Review: Asif Kapadia's Powerful Amy Winehouse Documentary 'Amy' Screen Daily reports that Noomi Rapace ("Prometheus," "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo") is in talks to player the artist in the untitled picture. Kirsten Sheridan ("August Rush") has written the script and will direct the picture that will tell the tale about the singer's life. The all important music rights are currently being negotiated, but as we've learned from other biopics that have spent years in development, it's not always an easy process to sort out, especially when estate's get.

Though the punk group has been featured on film before, it has either been in documentaries or in fiction/rockumentary blend Rude Boy, which they distanced themselves from before its release. Now comes another blend of fact and fiction, London Town, which boasts Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Daniel Huttlestone, Dougray Scott and Natascha McElhone. Derick Borte is busy directing the film now in London, working from a script by Kirsten Sheridan, Sonya Gildea and Matthew Brown. The cameras will be rolling...
