Alex has been a lifelong cinemaniac, since seeing
Charles Chaplin's
City Lights (1931), at the age of
five. Following graduation from The University of Southern California's
School of Cinema-Television, Alex had six screenplays produced as major
motion pictures, the last of which,
My Brother's War (1997), won the
Best Feature prize at the first annual Hollywood Film Festival in 1998.
Alex served as Editor-In-Chief of "Venice Magazine", Los Angeles'
premiere arts and entertainment publication, from 2000-2007. Since
joining "Venice" in 1996, Alex has interviewed, and written profiles
of, more than 300 filmmakers, actors, musicians, and artists. Alex has
had additional articles published in "Esquire", "Academy Magazine",
"DGA Magazine", "Art & Living", "P3 Production Update" and "Latin
Style" magazines.
Alex received his Masters of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in Producing from the American Film Institute. His thesis film, which he wrote and produced, Auteur (2006), won three awards and competed in over 20 international film festivals.
In 2010, Alex was awarded the 1st Place Maverick Award at the 20th annual Cinequest Film Festival for his screenplay Baron of Havana (2010), which was chosen from over 900 entries, and ten finalists.
Since 2007, Alex has served as Co-Editor of "The Hollywood Interview.com" with Terry Keefe, and has several film projects in pre-production under his "Wanderer Productions" banner.
Alex's podcast, "The Hollywood Interview Podcast," is streaming on all major platforms.
