- Simon Sinn was born in Hong Kong and moved to Canada in early 1970's. Simon is a late bloomer when it comes to acting, as he did not get his feet wet until he turned 30. He was a stock & commodity futures broker in Calgary at that time, to gain exposure and expand clientele, he approached a community cable TV station and convinced them to add a financial segment in their weekly Chinese 1-hour live show, and Simon would write and read it. After the screen test, the station liked him so much they convinced him to get more involved in the show, including hosting, news reading, interviewing, training/acting in drama, and producing documentaries.
Simon realized the potential of "Hollywood North" when he moved to Toronto in late 1980's. He quickly hooked up with Lorraine Wells, a talent agent Simon would work with for 30+ years until she retired in 2019, to continue the journey. Simon's very first feature film, a principal role in Guilty As Sin, was directed by (deceased) legendary director Sidney Lumet. Two other projects, Where The Truth Lies (feature) and Virtual Hitman (short), made their debuts at film festivals including Cannes (Where The Truth Lies). Because of his passion in financial trading, Simon never quit trading and treated acting as a precious hobby, something to take his mind off the occasional strain and pressure from trading.
Simon quit trading in 2017 to spend more time in acting, and was cast shortly after in Netflix comedy movie Murder Mystery, which took him to lovely Montreal and Santa Margherita, Italy. In April, 2023, Simon attended Canneseries film festival in Cannes, France, as a web series he had shot in previous summer, Streams Flow from a River, made its international premiere there. 2 months later, the series won Best Script, Best Direction and Best Cinematography in Valencia Indie Film Festival Jury Mentions category. SFFAR is available on Canada's Super Channel, Prime Video Channels.
Although well-established in his trade, Simon never forgets his humble beginnings. In fact, he considers the two years he spent honing his skills in community television in Calgary one of the top moments in his acting career. In addition to tutoring by theatre-trained veteran actors, those weekly shows, which were live, fast-paced, challenging, occasionally improvisational, and fun, made perfect on-the-job training. Oh, bloopers that all actors can relate to? Simon had a few too and they were priceless...
