Seinfeld was the biggest sitcom on television during the time it aired on NBC. Created by Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld, the show About Nothing was loved by everyone and it made the careers of Jerry Seinfeld who played himself, Julia Louis-Dreyfus who played Elaine Benes, and Jason Alexander who played the universally loved George. The series mostly followed four people hanging out and going on weird and absurdly comedic adventures. So, if you miss the hilarious comedy, unconventional but relatable characters, and timeless stories in Seinfeld, here are some similar shows you should check out next.

If you are going to do a so-called “hilarious” comedy dealing with cancer you better know how to do it. Unfortunately, writer/director Jennifer Cram, for her first feature film in those jobs, does not knock it out of the park.
Sick Girl which stars Nina Dobrev as Wren, a bit of a mess of a 30ish woman whose spur-of-the-moment little white lie about having cancer spirals out of control, would need a satirist along the lines of an Adam McKay to actually pull off this misbegotten comedy which is simply more cringe-inducing than funny, and Cram, whose previous work has been in Casting just can’t find the right tone to make it work. The premise may have sounded good on paper but it quickly turns into a one-joke idea stretched way beyond its worth. Lionsgate is opening this Friday day and date in theatres and VOD, the latter...

The concept of turning successful short films into full-length features is quite popular. Although, for the horror genre, it fails to work in most cases. While the short may be riveting enough and deserving of rounds of applause, the film that comes out of it seems stretched out and vapid. The most prominent example of this happening has to be the 2016 downer Lights Out, which was based on a three-minute long short that scared the hell out of even the bravest of the brave. Hulu’s latest film, Appendage, happens to be a similar case, but in reverse.
Not only does the film version work, it actually upgrades the short that was released two years ago in the very popular “Bite Size Halloween” segment. Rachel Sennott, then a relatively new face and now a breakout star, has been replaced with Hadley Robinson. Although fans of the shorts might miss Sennott in the lead role,...

Now that Appendage has finally arrived on Hulu, a larger audience is able to check out writer-director Anna Zlokovic’s first feature film, which is a complex body horror movie that follows Hannah (Hadley Robinson), a beautiful young woman who initially seems to have a lot of positive things happening in her life. Hannah is building a career as an aspiring fashion designer. She has a nice apartment, a loving boyfriend called Kaelin (Brandon Mychal Smith) and a best friend, Esther (Kausar Mohammed), who also works alongside her.
But it’s soon apparent that Hannah is just not doing well. Her mean boss ridicules her designs in front of her colleagues, and her parents seem quite controlling over the way she acts, preferring Hannah to put on a mask of happiness around them and taking drinks away from her. We find...

Michelangelo is a party dude and that’s been a core part of the character since the beginning of Turtles in animation. Mutant Mayhem is ready to expand on this, with Master Splinter declaring that Mikey has “heart.” Mikey’s the youngest brother of the four Turtles, and even though they all love pizza, Mikey has them beat in his devotion to it. He’s the fun spirit of the team and is always ready to look on the bright side of things. Still, when push comes to shove he’s ready to defend his brothers. He also dreams of living in the human world and being accepted by the people who his father, Splinter, always warned him away from.

The “evil twin” school of psychological metaphor has been a frequent device in horror fiction, and its familiarity does not much benefit the very literal-minded “Appendage.” Writer-director Anna Zlokovic’s first feature centers on a young Manhattanite whose insecurities manifest themselves in the form of a mini-me who becomes a serious usurping threat. This SXSW-launched Hulu Original is sufficiently polished to pass muster as a night’s streaming entertainment for undiscriminating genre fans. But despite the grotesque premise, its attack is a little too blunt to make much impact, whether taken as thinly-veiled satire or straight fantasy thriller.
Introduced chafing under the critical control of her waspish mother (Deborah Rennard) during a visit home to the suburbs, Hannah (Hadley Robinson) is a nice, talented, attractive twentysomething nonetheless driven by the sense that she’s got everything to prove. An aspiring fashion designer, she certainly gets negative reinforcement on that front from her employer,...

SXSW announced another wave of film programming today, including an eighth Midnighter.

Though their popularity peaked long before most of today’s actual teenagers were born, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles never really went away. We’re only six years removed from the most recent live-action film based on the pizza-loving reptiles, and it was just two months ago that a new Tmnt video game was released. Ant Ward and Andy Suriano’s “Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie,” which arrives on Netflix this week, is based on the animated series that aired on Nickelodeon from 2018 to 2020. While unlikely to bring any nostalgia-minded fans of the series’ early-’90s heyday back into the fold, “Rise” is a serviceable — if also forgettable — entry in the cowabunga canon.
It would be difficult to overstate how obsessed with ninjas and martial arts children were in the ’90s, with the franchise riding the same wave as “Mortal Kombat,” “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” and the “3 Ninjas” movies.

"In most families, the danger doesn't come from some stranger – danger comes from someone you already know..." Shudder has unveiled the trailer for a horror anthology film titled Horror Noire, a showcase of six different stories of Black horror. "Six stories, one film. Experience the next chapter of Black horror." This is a spin-off feature inspired by the outstanding documentary with the same title: Horror Noire: A History of Black Horror (which I highly recommend watching). The six stories featured in the anthology are titled: Daddy, Bride Before You, Brand of Evil, The Lake, Sundown, and Fugue State. The casts include Lesley-Ann Brandt, Luke James, Erica Ash, Brandon Mychal Smith, Sean Patrick Thomas, Peter Stormare, Malcolm Barrett, and Rachel True, among many others. With new and adapted stories by Tananarive Due, Steven Barnes, Victor Lavalle, Shernold Edwards, Al Letson and Ezra C. Daniels. I'm always down for more creative horror!

The first thing to know about Four Weddings and a Funeral, the series, is that it bears virtually no resemblance to Four Weddings and a Funeral, the Oscar-nominated 1994 romantic-comedy. It takes place in London, yes. There are four weddings and one funeral, sure. There is a floppy-haired fellow who is always late to the weddings, but, alas, he is no Hugh Grant. A beautiful American is one half of the central love story, but rather than elusive and enigmatic (a clever cover for Andie MacDowell’s wooden screen presence in...

What makes romantic comedies successful?
The outline of a meet-cute moment, a sudden realization that the potential couple cannot be together, a sweeping grand gesture, and a moving speech proving their love true while rendering the obstacle bunk generally delivers the goods.
The whole shebang also has to feel accessible to viewers even when it's otherwise far-fetched, and that's notably done through characters so well-written they appeal to a little piece of everyone.
Inserting yourself into the story is crucial; after all, what fun is it if you can't imagine yourself playing one of the parts?
Four Weddings and a Funeral comes from Mindy Kaling. You know her best for creating and starring in The Mindy Project. She knows her way around humor and romance.
Surely, appealing to a broader audience drove her adaptation of the classic film, Four Weddings and a Funeral, into a series with a diverse cast.

At the end of July, Hulu is dropping its new romantic comedy series Four Weddings and a Funeral, a modern-day update on the Oscar-nominated 1994 film starring Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell. The show comes from the minds of Mindy Kaling, Matt Warburton (The Simpsons) and Tracey Wigfield (Great News) and stars Nathalie Emmanuel, Brandon Mychal Smith, Rebecca Rittenhouse, John Reynolds, Nikesh Patel, and Zoe Boyle.
The new series deftly tells the stories of a group of American friends living in London as they navigate the titular four weddings and a funeral - plus London social life, political scandals, upheavals at work, and a reality show called Love Chalet.
However, there has been some criticism of the fact that while the film had a same-sex couple at its heart, the show does not appear to have any such couple (or even any main characters who are homosexual), something that might seem...

In today’s TV landscape, the term “limited series” is a fluid concept (see Big Little Lies). That said, when Four Weddings and a Funeral co-creator and executive producer Mindy Kaling and showrunner Tracey Wigfield were asked at TCA if the Hulu adaptation of the beloved romantic comedy would follow suit with the popular HBO limited series and get a second season, they didn’t say yes…and they didn’t say no.
“Is that up to us?” Kaling said Friday, laughing, about the possibility of the series going beyond the “limited series” realm. “We’re still editing Episode 10!”
Wigfield chimed in saying that if the audience demanded it, a second season would be a possibility. Even so, she said they “wrote it as a complete story” that was a fulfilling 10-episode series. Whether it goes beyond that is up in the air. “Anything can be anything,” she said.

“Four Weddings and a Funeral” fans looking forward to Mindy Kaling’s adaptation of the beloved ’90s rom-com starring Andie MacDowell and Hugh Grant should know how the Hulu miniseries will be different from the film — and how it won’t.
Here to explain it to you is star Rebecca Rittenhouse, who plays Ainsley on the streaming service’s small-screen update of “Four Weddings,” who told TheWrap the show will follow the basic structure of the 1994 movie.
“Well, the TV adaptation is really a reimagining of the original and the characters are not exactly parallel and ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ is really used as a structure,” Rittenhouse told TheWrap in the above interview. “So it’s about four American friends living in London and over the course of their story, four weddings and a funeral happen. So it’s really just about friendship, love and big life events.”

After many were ready to proclaim their untimely death, romantic comedies have resurrected with a vengeance. “Crazy Rich Asians” was a cultural and box office sensation, and Netflix has struck gold with a series of low-stakes movies that subsequently created an entire cottage industry that runs on earnest charm and flirty banter. Combine that burgeoning success with Hollywood’s beloved “everything old is new again” ethos and it was probably only a matter of time before we got something like Hulu’s “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” a shiny new adaptation of one of the most iconic romantic comedies of all time.
The limited anthology series from Mindy Kaling and Matt Warburton — the team behind “The Mindy Project,” a sitcom love letter to the rom-com genre — isn’t a reboot of Richard Curtis’ 1994 film. It rather just uses its premise of a group of friends weathering four weddings and a...

Hulu’s “Four Weddings and A Funeral” begins the exact same way as the 1994 film, with a madly panicked “Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.” dash out of the house by someone who egregiously overslept.
But from that point forward, Mindy Kaling and Matt Warburton’s show takes on a life of its own. The titular four weddings and a funeral will happen, of course, and there are plenty of homages to the rom-com classic sprinkled throughout the show, but the story that unfolds bears little resemblance to the Hugh Grant-Andie MacDowell dorks-in-love Best Picture nominee.
Interior decorator Ainsley (Rebecca Rittenhouse), school teacher Duffy (John Reynolds), and finance whiz Craig (Brandon Mychal Smith) are a trio of Americans that wind up moving to London after college graduation; the action opens when their pal, Maya (Nathalie Emmanuel) arrives to join them on the other side of the pond. Kaling’s...

You’ll be happy to know, Four Weddings and a Funeral fanatics, that Hulu’s adaptation of the beloved British rom-com does in fact open with its main character suddenly waking up and shouting the word “F—k!” repeatedly. Aside from that winking homage, though, the new Four Weddings — debuting Wednesday, July 31 on the streamer; I’ve seen the first five episodes — isn’t actually a straight rehash of the Hugh Grant/Andie MacDowell film we know and love, but rather, Fargo-style, a new tale with new characters told in the same vein. And while it might not quite reach the heights of the original,...

Your Game of Thrones withdrawals are about to be curbed thanks to . . . Hulu's Four Weddings and a Funeral series, which stars Nathalie Emmanuel and looks equal parts sweet and hilarious. The adaptation of Richard Curtis and Mike Newell's 1994 romantic comedy comes from veritable rom-com expert Mindy Kaling, who's bringing the beloved story about a group of friends evolving over the course of - you guessed it - four weddings (and a funeral).
This time around, we meet NY-based communications director Maya (Emmanuel) as she's making the journey to London to attend the wedding of a college classmate, leaving her personal and professional crises behind. However, she finds herself wrapped up in a bunch more interpersonal drama when she touches down across the pond, forging relationships with new people, giving good (and bad) advice, getting wrapped up in a political scandal, and receiving a whole lot of wedding favors.
