If you grew up on such films as "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective," "The Nutty Professor," and "Liar Liar," you likely know the name Tom Shadyac. The writer/director made a name for himself with these now beloved family comedies. You might remember his first detour from such fare with the critically-panned but commercially successful "Patch Adams," but chances are you've never heard of his follow-up.
Shadyac's 2002 supernatural thriller "Dragonfly" was every bit as maudlin as "Patch Adams" but it also had the distinction of being a bona fide box office dud, making $52 million on a $60 million budget. Trying something different is often to be commended, but the guy who directed "Ace Ventura" helming a film about a widowed doctor whose dead wife contacts him through patients doesn't seem like the most well-advised career move. Still, if you've got Kevin Costner fronting your bizarre drama, you might be in with a chance of making something half-decent.

NCIS: Origins is debuting, so here are some classic NCIS episodes to watch to get ready for it!
NCIS fans have long been missing Agent Jethro Gibbs. The heart of the series since it debuted as a backdoor pilot on Jag, Gibbs was loved for his stern demeanor, dedication to his job, sometimes wry humor and tragic backstory of losing a wife and child. Mark Harmon made the character beloved, so it was a shock when Gibbs opened Season 19 by quitting to retire to Alaska.
Fortunately, Harmon will be returning to the franchise in a unique way. NCIS: Origins takes us back to 1993 with Austin Stowell playing a younger Gibbs joining the agency and how he became the agent we know. It looks to be an intriguing spin on the franchise and to prepare for it, these episodes are must-watch to see what parts of Gibbs' life can come to play.

Stunt casting can always be really hit or miss — sometimes audiences are excited to see a fun guest star in a surprising role, and sometimes the gimmick ends up feeling, well, gimmicky. Even when it works, like Marlon Brando playing Jor-El in Richard Donner's "Superman," it's frequently a major headache for folks behind-the-scenes. After all, stunt casting involves bringing an actor or star not used to a certain genre or medium into that arena, and actors used to art films and dramas might have a hard time adjusting to the very different requirements of science fiction, fantasy, and horror movies. This goes double for major franchises, where the actor has to contend not only with the unique challenges of a new genre but also the expectations of the fandoms. Since there are few fandoms as intense in their love or as scrutinizing as "Star Trek," stunt casting has to be done very,...

What's the easiest way to have your hero and villain team-up? Introduce a new, even worse villain who can only be defeated by combining forces. "Star Trek: Voyager" did such a move in "Scorpion," its two-part season 3 finale/season 4 premiere where our heroes teamed up with, of all races, the rapacious hive-minded Borg. Before then, the Borg had never been anything but terrifying villains.
Context: "Voyager" follows the crew of the eponymous starship, whose name becomes meaningful when it's flung halfway across the galaxy. To get home, Voyager will inevitably have to trek through Borg space. By their luck, when they finally get there, the Borg have bigger fish to fry: Species 8472, an interdimensional race who got a little peeved when the Borg invaded their home dimension and now want to wipe out the entire Milky Way.
Voyager develops a countermeasure against the invaders and trades it for safe passage through Borg space.

"Star Trek: Picard" shares more than a little DNA with "12 Monkeys." In its third season, the recently ended "Trek" sequel series was captained by showrunner Terry Matalas, who co-created the wild Syfy Channel adaptation of Terry Gilliam's also-wild film. Aside from a shared showrunner, "Star Trek: Picard" was home to several key cast and crew members who worked on both shows – and nearly featured one more.
In a Reddit Ama about the show's third season, user Drewski1138 pointed out several narrative choices in "Picard" that echoed "12 Monkeys," including references to a mysterious red realm, a new drug called "Splinter" (a reference to "12 Monkeys" time travel), and more. "Were there any '12 Monkeys' Easter eggs we might have missed ... Were there any that you were told you couldn't put in?" the user asked Matalas. The answer? No, but there was one Easter egg that never came to...

The final two episodes of "Star Trek: Picard," called "Võx" and "The Last Generation" respectively, concluded the season's strangest mystery. The young Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers) had revealed on several occasions that he possessed eerie and inexplicable psychic powers. Not only could he read people's minds, but he could project his consciousness into other people's bodies and take control of them remotely. He also was inexplicably a martial arts expert and was capable of killing bad guys in ways he didn't think he was capable of.
The final explanation for his powers was perhaps a little silly. It turns out his long-lost father was Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and he inherited a Borg gene from his father. Picard, it seems, received the Borg gene from when he had been assimilated decades prior. The inherited gene gave Jack superpowers and also psychically lured him into the clutches of the insidious Borg Queen,...

No one can say NCIS isn’t a successful TV show. With 20 seasons and counting, it has become downright iconic and spawned multiple spin-offs.
The original series has a proven episodic formula with compelling crimes and intriguing mysteries.
What it doesn’t have much of is happy relationships.
If you are a shipper, be warned. With rare exceptions, long-term romances are doomed on NCIS.
Couples are either teased but never get together, only get together offscreen, or break up far too fast to be satisfying to the fans who root for them.
And if a couple somehow miraculously does end up in a stable, loving relationship, well, the clock is ticking because one of them is likely to die.
So read on as I list the NCIS couples that infuriated, depressed, or simply broke my heart.
Gibbs and Shannon - Death
NCIS started with a tragic love story, albeit mostly offscreen and shown in flashbacks.

Wersching was reportedly diagnosed with cancer in the summer of 2020 but had kept her illness private. The news of her passing first broke via a GoFundMe posted in support of Wersching's family by her former "Runaways" co-star Ever Carradine. The news was then confirmed by outlets including Deadline and IGN.

“Star Trek: Picard” Season 2 will see Jean-Luc squaring off against an old adversary: the Borg Queen.
Variety has confirmed that Annie Wersching will play the Borg Queen in the second season of the Paramount Plus series. Wersching will now be the third actress to take on the role after Alice Krige played the leader of the Borg Collective in the film “Star Trek: First Contact” and in “Star Trek: Voyager” series finale. Susanna Thompson also played the character in multiple episodes of “Voyager.”
Exactly how the Borg Queen will factor into Season 2 is unknown, but chances are it will involve some manner of time travel. An early trailer for the new season, which also gave fans a tease of John de Lancie returning as Q, hinted that time would be a major theme of the next installment of the series.

Wersching will recur as the infamous Trek villain, first introduced in the 1996 film Star Trek: First Contact and played by Alice Krige. Krige also reprised the role in the 2001 series finale of Star Trek: Voyager. Susanna Thompson played the role in three other Voyager episodes.

Star Trek might not have featured any openly gay characters until recent years, but previous series came close to crossing this milestone. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, for example, featured the franchise’s first same-sex kiss – between Jadzia Dax (Terry Farrell) and Lenora Kahn (Susanna Thompson) in the episode “Rejoined.” Another actor on the 90s series though has now revealed that they wanted their character to be openly gay, but this unfortunately never happened.

This January, Arrow came to an end after eight seasons, with the series finale unsurprisingly proving to be an emotional affair. Following the Emerald Archer’s death in “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” the episode revolved around Oliver Queen’s funeral, with many faces from the show’s past returning for the occasion. Even characters long since dead were able to come back, thanks to Oliver rebooting the timeline.
Just a few of the cameos included Susanna Thompson, Colin Donnell and Sea Shimooka as Moira Queen, Tommy Merlyn and Emiko Queen, three folks who were still alive in this new reality. Elsewhere, former allies like Joe Dinicol’s Ragman and the al Ghul sisters – Talia (Lex Doig) and Nyssa (Katrina Law) – dropped by Star City to pay their respects. And, best of all, Emily Bett Rickards came back after a season away to reunite with her husband in the afterlife.

It's official: The CW's Arrow has ended after eight seasons of crime-fighting. On Jan. 28, the series finale premiered and tied up various loose ends following the death of Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) in the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event. It shows how Oliver's sacrifice brought back loved ones who initially died throughout the course of Arrow, including Oliver's mom, Moira (Susanna Thompson), and his best friend, Tommy Merlyn (Colin Donnell). We also get a tear-jerking appearance from Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards), who returns to attend Oliver's funeral and see her grown-up daughter from the future.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched the “Arrow” series finale.
In the aftermath of Oliver Queen’s (Stephen Amell) death, the CW’s “Arrow” ended with a relatively happy ending.
The post-“Crisis” world revealed that Oliver’s death had indeed been a spark that saved his city, which was now crime-free. Additionally, nearly everyone whom Oliver lost over the years — including his mother Moira (Susanna Thompson), best friend Tommy (Colin Donnell), and foe-turned-friend Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne) — was revived. An exception to the rule was Oliver’s father, Robert (Jamey Sheridan), about whom the Queen family speculated that only things that didn’t change the titular hero could be undone.
Undoing, to a degree, past key emotional moments was a delicate line to toe, the “Arrow” team admits.

The end has come for Arrow. After eight seasons, the CW drama ended tonight and if you didn't cry a little, you might need to get your tear ducts checked. It was basically everything you could want if you've been watching the show for eight seasons now, starting with the comforting fact that the city finally did get saved. After Oliver died in Crisis on Infinite Earths and rebooted the universe, Star City returned as a crime-free place that no longer really needed a Team Arrow to protect it. The reboot also brought quite a few loved ones back to life, including Moira Queen (Susanna Thompson), Tommy Merlyn (Colin Donnell), Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne), and even Oliver's poor half-sister Emiko...

As the CW’s “Arrow” prepares to sign off after eight seasons, the writers had a difficult balance to strike in the final episode: acknowledging the changes that have come to Earth Prime in the aftermath of the timeline-changing “Crisis on Infinite Earths” arc, wrapping up the characters from the mothership series and also leaving enough of the characters unharmed that the future-set backdoor spinoff could potentially move forward.

Here we go, Emerald Archer fans. After eight seasons, Arrow is coming to an end. Last week’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” conclusion featured the second and ultimate death of Oliver Queen, but there’s still two episodes of the original Arrowverse show to go. Tomorrow brings us the backdoor pilot for Green Arrow and the Canaries and then we have the big one, the series finale. Even though the actress vacated the show at the end of season 7, it was just announced that Emily Bett Rickards is returning to Arrow for its series finale this January. Fans are overjoyed at the news, as it means the relationship between Oliver Queen and his wife Felicity Smoak, that’s been the backbone of the show for so many years, will get some closure.
What’s more, it seems like Felicity won’t be the only familiar face returning for the season 8 finale. In response to Stephen Amell’s tweet welcoming Rickards back to the show, Arrow Ep Marc Guggenheim offered his own thoughts on her comeback. “No other way to do our finale,” the writer/producer said. And here’s the bit that will make fans pay attention: “You’ll find out about more old friends returning in the coming weeks.”
I prefer it, too. We couldn't be happier or more thrilled.

This review is based off the season premiere.
At this point, what else can I say about Arrow?
When it first debuted back in 2012, DC fans everywhere wondered if it would measure up to Smallville, especially since this new guy named Stephen Amell had been placed under the hood instead of Justin Hartley. But what followed were years of incredible adventures that changed superhero television forever – and for the better.
I mean, not only did this new take on Oliver Queen amaze us all with a more rough-and-tumble style, but the series gave birth to what’s now known as the “Arrowverse,” which is also populated by The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Batwoman and Black Lightning. This unique vision has brought the DC Comics universe to life like no TV show – or movies, for that matter – have done before. It’s had a profound impact on people the world over,...

We have a lot to look forward to in Arrow's eighth and final season. Familiar faces will return - Thea Queen (Willa Holland), Moira Queen (Susanna Thompson), and Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) are among those set to make a comeback - as our crime-fighting squad gears up for the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover with Supergirl, The Flash, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, and Batwoman. Because the season seven finale already confirmed the death of Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), we already have our tissue boxes ready for the emotional scene, but how will the crusader meet his end?

Although the terms of their agreement went unknown throughout most of Arrow's seventh chapter, the finale revealed that Oliver would die during the upcoming Crisis events. After being with the show since season 1, Emily Bett Rickards left the regular cast of Arrow at the end of its seventh season, meaning she won’t be around for the final 10 episodes that’ll comprise season 8. However, just because Felicity Smoak won’t be on-screen doesn’t mean the character’s influence won’t still be keenly felt.
In TV Line’s latest Ask Ausiello column, Michael Ausiello answers the question of how Felicity will impact the storyline of season 8. He explains, along with quotes from Katherine “Mia Smoak” McNamara, that Oliver Queen’s wife won’t be far from her husband or her daughter’s thoughts across the run.
“While Oliver in the present timeline holds onto the hope that, as Felicity said, they will find each other again, Future Mia will struggle to do right by Mom. On top of learning how to be part of a team alongside Connor,...

Based on what the producers have been telling us for the past few months, Arrow‘s eighth and final season will essentially replay the greatest hits of the series by revisiting its earlier years. Right now, we can only fathom what this means, though we can’t rule out the possibilities of time travel and/or journeying to alternate universes.
As such, a handful of fan favorites have already been confirmed for another tour of duty this fall, as Josh Segarra and Colin Donnell will return as Adrian Chase and Tommy Merlyn, respectively, and Rila Fukushima will slip back into the role of Katana shortly thereafter. And if that weren’t enough, they’ll be joined by John Barrowman (Malcolm Merlyn) and Susanna Thompson (Moira Queen), with the highly demanded return of Willa Holland as Thea Queen rounding things out.

Oliver Queen’s had quite the arc over the past seven years. Starting out as a lone vigilante, he came to form a team of close allies and eventually founded an entire shared universe. Arrow might be ending with its upcoming eighth season, but it’s going to pack a lot of fan-pleasing returns into its brief 10-episode run. The latest bit of casting news reveals that former regular Willa Holland will be back for the last hurrah and she won’t just be returning as a guest star but will stick around for a recurring role.
TV Line has spilled the beans that Holland will soon be back as Thea Queen Aka Speedy, Oliver’s younger sister and one-time member of Team Arrow. Thea’s a firm fan favorite, though she hasn’t been seen on the series for a while. If you’ll recall, Holland was a regular for the first four years before she trimmed down her episode count in season 5. The actress then departed for good in season 6.

His charmed life turned into a hellish nightmare when he chose to cheat on his girlfriend, Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy), by taking her sister Sarah on a yacht cruise with his father.

As one would expect, Arrow will go out in style by bringing back a host of fan favorites over the course of its eighth and final season. Right off the bat, we know that Josh Segarra and Colin Donnell will return as Adrian Chase and Tommy Merlyn, respectively, and Rila Fukushima will slip back into the role of Katana shortly thereafter.
In addition to them, two actors who helped shape the series in its earliest of days will be along for the ride as well. I mean, we already know about how Susanna Thompson and John Barrowman were each coming back for another tour, but not at all what their involvement would entail.
Well, thanks to the following image supplied by IGN, we’re able to see that Moira Queen and Malcolm Merlyn are an item in the eighth season premiere, “Starling City.” Furthermore, Oliver Queen himself can be found in the photo as well.

Arrow ends with its upcoming eighth season, and it looks like The CW show’s going to use its final 10 episodes to celebrate its own history and remind us all how far it’s come since its more humble beginnings in 2012. For instance, we know that many former stars of the series will be returning one more time before the Green Arrow empties his quiver for good.
The latest early Arrow character confirmed to be appearing is Yao Fei Gulong, as played by Byron Mann. Those with long memories will remember that Yao Fei was the skilled archer who first honed Oliver Queen’s own abilities with a bow when the billionaire playboy was marooned on Lian Yu for his first year away from his home of Star City. Ollie’s mentor was also killed back in the first season by Edward Fyers, which raises some questions about how he’s back now.

Arrow season 8 is set to bring back numerous old faces from the show’s past, just before it comes to an end. The saga of the Green Arrow has given us a lot of fan favorite characters who’ve come and gone over the years, and it seems like as many of them as possible will feature in the series’ final hours. Chief among them is Tommy Merlyn (Colin Donnell), who hasn’t been a regular since season 1, though he’s made the occasional guest appearance over the years.
Donnell’s return for season 8 was revealed last month, but now star Stephen Amell has given us our first look at Tommy in the upcoming run. The star shared a snap of a screen playing the season premiere, which unveils a bearded Donnell. So, we know he’s going to be back in the opener.

Arrow season 8 seems to be less of a typical final run and more of a victory lap that’ll celebrate how far The CW has come over the years. When it was revealed just yesterday that Colton Haynes won’t be returning for Arrow‘s eighth and final season, I’m sure that a lot of hearts sank. Suffice it to say, Roy Harper has caught on as one of the show’s most popular supporting characters, as he’s garnered much support over the years.
To briefly sum up his history, Roy first appeared in season 1, then played a more prominent role in seasons 2 and 3 by eventually emerging as the hero known as Arsenal. Then, Haynes departed from the show and came back for a few guest shots here and there, before being restored to series regular status in season 7. Now, the cycle seemingly repeats itself.
Of course, it’s easy for stuff to get misinterpreted on the internet, thereby forcing Haynes himself to address the situation on Twitter. According to him, it wasn’t his decision to bounce,...

If anything, Arrow‘s eighth and final season should prove to be a star-studded affair as the producers begin rounding up as many returning fan favorites as possible. Though Manu Bennett has yet to receive a phone call regarding this matter, other familiar favorites have been called to task.

Okay, I’m aware that Chase didn’t show up until season 5, but his villainy was a product of events occurring during season 1’s time frame. Arrow season 7’s finale changed the status quo of the show in ways that can probably only be done when it’s ending the following year. Just when Oliver and Felicity seemed to have found some happiness with their baby daughter, the Emerald Archer was whisked away by the Monitor, with the cosmic being warning that Ollie will die in “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” It was then confirmed that Felicity won’t see her husband again until the Monitor collects her, too, 20 years later.

We don’t know much in terms of story details about the run, but its shortened 10-episode length tells us that it will be structured very differently from previous years. Then there’s the fact that the season 7 finale saw Oliver Queen whisked off through a multiversal portal to aid the Monitor in the run-up to “Crisis on Infinite Earths.”
With the Emerald Archer being taken out of time and space, it seems that season 8 will allow the show to wrap up a few old plot threads and character arcs before it bows out. This means that some familiar faces not seen for a while will get to return. Here’s how star Stephen Amell teased the season in an interview with TV Guide:

With Arrow reaching its end this year, season 8 looks set to honor The CW show’s long past and bring back a few old favorites. One of the most notable returning faces in the series’ final season is Colin Donnell as Tommy Merlyn. Donnell was, of course, an Arrow regular for its first run until Oliver Queen’s best pal died in the finale.
So, how come Tommy’s back for season 8? This question of whether the character could still be alive was posed to star Stephen Amell during this weekend’s TCAs and the actor gave a tight-lipped yet telling response, saying:
“It’s definitely possible on an Earth.”

Arrow reaches its end with its eighth season this year, and it looks like we already know what fate has in store for Oliver Queen. Back in “Elseworlds,” it appeared that the Emerald Archer had made a deal with the Monitor to save the lives of the Flash and Supergirl in exchange for his own. Sure enough, the Arrow season 7 finale confirmed it – the Green Arrow is going to die in the incoming “Crisis on Infinite Earths.”
But this doesn’t mean that there won’t be some twists in the tale. Today at the TCAs, Ep Marc Guggenheim spoke a little about how the show will actually wrap up in an unexpected way. Obviously, he can’t say too much right now, but he did reveal that people were thinking of things in a “very binary way. ‘It has to be X or Y.’ I think we have Z planned.
