Valerie Garcia, a well-respected film executive who co-founded Mars Films in France, has launched a new Paris-based production boutique, Gabman. The banner’s strong first slate includes projects with Paramount+, Federation Entertainment and Snd Fictions.
While at Mars Films, Garcia was involved in the production and distribution of some of France’s biggest hits, including Maiwenn’s “Polisse” and “Two is a Family” with Omar Sy. The company, which was taken over by Vivendi in 2021, also handled the French distribution of major indie films such as the Oscar-winning “Twelve Years a Slave” and “Moonlight.”
At Gabman, Garcia will be developing and producing projects ranging from films to documentaries, live events and series, working closely with filmmakers and artists.
Garcia is working alongside Tristan Du Laz, another top film executive who previously ran TF1 Studio before launching Original Factory, an innovative co-production and distribution company dedicated to delivering movies to platforms.

Giallo; Unknown; Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son; Country Strong
Following the resolution of a release-delaying financial dispute between producers and leading man Adrien Brody, it would be excellent to report that director Dario Argento's latest has been worth the wait. Sadly, the belated straight-to-dvd premiere of Giallo (2009, Lionsgate, 18) does nothing to enhance the reputation of Italy's former horror maestro. On the contrary, with its sub-Saw leering gore and crassly unimaginative exploitation aesthetic, this looks more like the work of a hacking fan boy than of the father of stylishly extreme modern cinema.
Oscar-winner Brody stars as special agent Enzo Avolfi, an unconvincingly troubled soul with a late-revealed (and, sadly, laughable) back story which affords him a dangerous empathy with his prey. In a pun-tastic play upon generic labels (Argento's touchstone oeuvre is commonly referred to as "giallo", after the yellow covers of pulp crime paperbacks), said prey turns...

Chicago – For audiences seeking a casually entertaining thriller that doesn’t require a great deal of thought, “Unknown” amounts to an enjoyable couple of hours. Skeptics are advised to steer clear. Though the mind-scrambling plot includes initial shades of “Twilight Zone” intrigue, it’s really just an excuse for Liam Neeson to kick even more butt than he did in 2008’s surprise box office hit, “Taken.”
The picture works solely because Neeson has an old-fashioned everyman quality that makes viewers want to follow him anywhere, even over the cliff of implausibility. Many critics bashed the film for its far-fetched final act, which morphs the plot into an entirely different genre. It’s a bit of a cop-out, but the rest of the film is so cheerfully ludicrous that I was willing to accept it (albeit with a bemused expression).
Blu-Ray Rating: 3.0/5.0

Liam Neeson’s latest action movie, Unknown will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on June 21 from Warner Home Video.
The thriller has a good premise: Neeson (The A-Team) goes to Berlin with his wife (January Jones, Pirate Radio) to give a science presentation, but when he wakes up in a hospital after a car accident, he discovers his identity has been stolen by another man (Aidan Quinn, The Eclipse), and even his wife is in on it. Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds) plays an ally for Neeson and Frank Langella (All Good Things) is his usual calm bad guy.
Despite decent reviews, the PG-13 film wasn’t the run-away hit that Neeson’s Taken was in 2008, with $145 million. But Unknown, which is based on the novel by Didier van Cauwelaert, grossed a nice $61 million in theaters.
Warner says the DVD, priced at $28.98, will include just one special feature:

The players: Director: Jaume Collet-Serra, Writers: Oliver Butcher, Stephen Cornwell, Cast: Liam Neeson, Diane Kruger, January Jones
Facts of interest: Based on the novel by Didier Van Cauwelaert.
The plot: After waking from a coma, a man realizes someone else has stolen his identity. Even his own wife doesn't recognize him.
Our thoughts: Liam Neeson is definitely not the guy you want to mess with in a fast-paced action thriller, and in Jaume Collet-Serra’s “Unknown,” the actor slips into the role of a man who goes all badass on everybody after he finds out someone out there has stolen his identity. Luckily for us spectators, Neeson’s fight to get his life back in the movie proves to be quite an entertaining ride.

Unknown isn't the worst movie director Jaume Collet-Serra has made; of the four on his c.v., that honor is shared by the repulsive House of Wax and the laughable Orphan. It is, however, a maddeningly stupid one, built on cheap shocks, idiotic plotting, and some of the worst acting by a female lead outside of the porn industry. There's no accident that it was released to theaters in February, during the time of year when studios are still busy trumpeting last year's award winners and contenders that they fill their winter slots with lowbrow action, unfunny comedies, and grating family fare. The film feels calculated to push every last button of annoyance in a thinking viewer, practically daring you to stand up and shout at the screen, or to beseech the projectionist to just put on something else. Based on the novel Out of My Head by Didier van Cauwelaert,...

Many will walk out of "Unknown" wishing that the slightly "Bourne"-esque espionage thriller about identity and memory (and Monsanto's worst nightmare) was directed by Paul Greengrass (or even Doug Liman). I would have preferred it to be the Hollywood debut of "The Lives of Others" director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, who instead went and made "The Tourist." Based on the novel "Out of My Head," by French author Didier van Cauwelaert, "Unknown" was in fact directed by Barcelona-born Jaume Collet-Serra ("Orphan"), and if the book is as comically absurd as I'm thinking it is, perhaps Warner Bros. chose correctly. The…...

In the French-made, English-language sleeper Taken, Liam Neeson was a former CIA operative who was (outlandishly) able to thwart a sex-trafficking ring. Audiences responded vociferously to his take-charge character. His latest film, Unknown, was also made in Europe—this time, Berlin—by Spanish-born director Jaume Collet-Serra, and it casts the reliable actor in a role that couldn’t be more different. In this yarn, he loses control of his life, or to be more specific, his identity. The very Hitchcockian story was taken from a novel by the prolific French author Didier Van Cauwelaert called Out of My Head, adapted by Oliver Butcher…...

No one could make a better identity crisis movie than the master himself, Alfred Hitchcock. From .North by Northwest. to .Vertigo,. the director was in the business of making movies featuring characters losing a sense of personal sameness and historical continuity.
The new identity crisis movie .Unknown. would have benefited from the expert hands of Hitchcock. Instead, what we got is a pedestrian film that was saved by Liam Neeson.s presence.
Although lately, it seems that Neeson has been in the business of making movies where his character has lost something. He lost his daughter in 2009.s .Taken. and with .Unknown,. the actor plays a man who loses his identity.
Neeson stars as Dr. Martin Harris, a botanist attending a biotechnology summit in Berlin with his wife Liz (January Jones). But after losing his briefcase (yes he lost more than his identity in this movie), Martin rushes back to...

Don’t mess with Liam Neeson: he’s back on our screens in the upcoming Unknown, and as this poster shows, he doesn’t look in the best of moods…
Liam Neeson is proving himself an adept and very watchable action lead these days, most notably in the recent hit Taken, to which a sequel is on the way. But first up for him is his incoming new movie Unknown, co-starring January Jones, Diane Kruger and Frank Langella.
Unknown follows the story of Neeson's Doctor Harris, who wakes up after a car accident only to discover that someone else has taken his identity, and his wife doesn't recognise who he is.
Based on the book Out Of My Head by Didier van Cauwelaert, Unknown then follows Neeson's character as he tries to sort it all out.
And as you can see from the UK exclusive poster for the film that we have here,...

We’ve already seen the trailer for Unknown, the thriller that finds Liam Neeson back in Taken mode – which is to say, he’s angry because the bad guys have stolen something and he’s going to get it back by any means necessary. And now the poster is online.Uknown, adapted from Didier van Cauwelaert’s novel Out of My Head finds Neeson as Dr Martin Harris, a man who arrives in Berlin with his wife (January Jones). But after a car accident, he awakens to find that no one recognizes him and, to make matters worse, another man (Aiden Quinn) has assumed his identity.Naturally, the authorities don’t buy his sob story, and soon Harris is on the run from assassins, with only a mysterious cab driver (Diane Kruger) on his side. So instead of meekly giving into his fate, the good doctor decides to go all action hero.

Time to crown a new champ in the 'awful Photoshop' category of movie poster design. The previous winner was Takers, which took the title thanks to the unnaturally large heads [1] of T.I. and Hayden Christiansen. But now, thanks to the melting face of Liam Neeson, the poster for Unknown is the latest big loser. We've seen the trailer [2] for Unknown, so we know that the film turns on a question of identity. I suppose the shadowed half of Mr. Neeson's face in this poster is meant to suggest some hidden persona, or an identity shift. But it just looks lumpy and totally off.The rest of the composition does nothing for me, but this is a February thriller release that looks rather formulaic in the trailer, so I suppose I shouldn't be surprised to see the poster following suit. Previously: Unknown [3] stars Liam Neeson, January Jones [4], Diane Kruger and Frank Langella.

In 2005 director Rupert Murray released Unknown White Male, a documentary about the true story of a man named Doug Bruce. He woke up on Coney Island with total amnesia and we follow him around as rediscovers himself and the world around him. I found the intriguing premise to be told in a boring, over-stylized manner. Then I heard about the next film from House of Wax and Orphan director Jaume Collet-Serra, with the same title and a similar premise. Although one features Liam Neeson kicking a lot of ass, it came to my surprise that the two films have nothing to do with each other.
Based on a novel by Didier Van Cauwelaert, they shortened the title to Unknown. Neeson stars alongside January Jones, Diane Kruger and Frank Langella. It looks like a solid little thriller prime gearing to mimic Taken’s box office. Check out the first trailer below via Yahoo.

Wow, Liam Neeson makes so many movies now, I can hardly keep up. Fortunately, Neeson added to just about any movie can be considered a positive. Particularly when he brings a container of whoopass, and cracks the seal. His latest is the amnesia thriller Unknown (formerly Unknown White Male, adapted from Didier Van Cauwelaert's novel), which seems like a combo of The Bourne Identity, Taken and that Bruce Greenwood show "Nowhere Man" (anyone remember that?). It co-stars Frank...

Academy Award-nominated actor Liam Neeson's star is (finally) on the rise. Though a Hollywood stalwart since the success of 1999's Darkman, Neeson has only flirted with stardom over the years. Neeson won over critics as Oskar Schindler in Schindler's List and collected a fan following thanks to roles in Star Wars: Episode I and Batman Begins. However, despite these notable roles, Neeson has never quite made it into the upper echelons of leading male actors.
Now, thanks to the surprise success of Taken, in which Neeson played a retired CIA agent who tracks down the slave traders who kidnapped his daughter, Neeson is set to star in a rapid succession of high-profile movies. Neeson will portray Zeus in the remake of the Ray Harryhausen classic Clash of the Titans, and is preparing to star in a big-budget adaptation of TV's The A-Team, in which he will play the team's leader,...
