- She was awarded the MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2021 Queen's New Years Honours List for her services to Drama in Altrincham, Greater Manchester, England.
- In November 2009, she was diagnosed with breast cancer the same year her Coronation Street (1960) character was, for which she has had chemotherapy and radiotherapy. She returned to the soap opera in July 2010 after a six-month break.
