Members of the Directors Guild of America and the Writers Guild of America have moved to form Jewish committees, finding that recent events demonstrate a need for better representation within the guilds.

In the DGA, members have gathered more than 300 signatures on a petition calling on the board to create a Jewish Diversity Committee, which would address issues like antisemitism and employment equity in Hollywood.

“We want a seat at the table,” said Stuart Acher, a director who is organizing the effort. “The guild looks to these diversity committees as advisers to help protect representation and rights for people of that community. Now, Jews don’t have a voice. No one is speaking for the Jews.”

The DGA has eight diversity committees, including those for Black, Latino, Asian American, women, LGBTQ and disabled members.

In recent weeks, WGA West agreed to create a Jewish Writers Committee, which is co-chaired by Dan Signer and Patrick Moss.

The mood isn’t entirely cheery as Tim Allen faces some serious competition in the trailer for the second season of Disney+’s The Santa Clauses.

This holiday-themed series returns to the platform with its two-episode season premiere set for Nov. 8, following the first season that launched last year. Eric Stonestreet joins the cast as Magnus Anta, aka the Mad Santa, who was in charge of the North Pole in the 14th century and aims to challenge the current reign of Scott Calvin (Allen) and his family.

Even though we're not done with Halloween, Disney isn't wasting anytime digging back into the world of Santa Claus with a second season of the Disney+ original series "The Santa Clauses." “Modern Family” star Eric Stonestreet will join the Tim Allen-led cast of the Disney+ Original series “The Santa Clauses,” the streamer said Friday.

The show adds Stonestreet for Season 2, production of which is underway. He will play the role of Magnus Antas, also known as the Mad Santa, who reigned during the 14th century and is now returning to try and take down Scott Calvin (Allen) and reclaim the North Pole, according to Disney+.

In the second season, the Calvin family has returned to the North Pole after Calvin’s retirement plans did not work out as planned when he could not to find a successor worthy of Santa’s duties. Picking up after Scott and his family saved Christmas in Season 1, Scott focuses on training his son Calvin to take over the “family business.”

The Santa Clauses will return for Season 2!

“This franchise has had a lasting impact for so many families, truly becoming part of their annual holiday traditions,” Disney Branded Television president Ayo Davis said in a statement.

“Bringing it back as a series has been a true gift, and I’m grateful to our producing partners at 20th Television and, of course, Tim Allen and team, that we have yet another reason to celebrate this holiday season.”

The news is somewhat surprising. Before the series was even picked up, reports stated it would be a limited series revival that would seemingly bring Tim Allen's alter ego full circle.

Now, it sounds like there will be plenty of Scott and his family on the agenda because we're getting a full-fledged second season.

On the heels of its Season 1 finale, Disney+ has announced a Season 2 renewal for The Santa Clauses, with Tim Allen and Elizabeth Mitchell set to reprise their roles as Mr. and Mrs. Clause.

In Season 1, Scott Calvin (Allen) returns after being Santa Claus for nearly thirty years, and he’s as jolly as ever. But as Christmas declines in popularity, so does his Santa magic. Scott struggles to keep up with the demands of the job, as well as being there for his family. Allen also executive produces the series alongside Jack Burditt, who serves as showrunner. Kevin Hench, Richard Baker and Rick Messina will serve as executive producers along with Jason Winer and Jon Radler for Small Dog Picture Company.

The Santa Clause franchise brings back Eric Lloyd as Scott’s son Charlie (aka Sport) in Episode 2 of the Disney+ sequel series — a return that ultimately proves short-lived. But Charlie’s cameo is not-at-all insignificant. In fact, it’s a conversation shared between father and son that leads Scott to make a pretty drastic change.

When reviving the Santa Clause franchise by way of Disney+, the Powers That Be knew they’d have to explain why a certain fan-favorite elf had been kept on the shelf for the last 20 years.

We’re talking, of course, about Bernard, a role originated by David Krumholtz in 1994’s The Santa Clause, opposite Tim Allen. Krumholtz reprised Bernard in the 2002 sequel The Santa Clause 2, at which point Bernard had taken under his wing a protégé named Curtis (played by Spencer Breslin).

The show serves as a follow-up to the “Santa Clause” Christmas series, which released three films between 1994 and 2006. The streaming service revealed Saturday during the D23 Expo that The Santa Clauses, a limited series revival of the franchise, will hit the air Wednesday, November 16.

Two episodes will be made available on that date.

TheWrap has learned that Fox loved “The Big Leap” and saw it as an aspirational story, but it didn’t draw strong viewership numbers with an average 0.4/2 L7 and 2.8 million multiplatform viewers.

The Scott Foley-led drama “The Big Leap” has been canceled after just one season at Fox, Variety has learned.

A modern tale about second chances, chasing your dreams and taking back what’s yours,”The Big Leap” revolves around a group of diverse, down-on-their-luck characters attempting to change their lives by participating in a potentially life-ruining reality dance show featuring a modern reimagining of “Swan Lake.”

“The Big Leap” starred Scott Foley, Teri Polo, Piper Perabo, Simone Recasner, Kevin Daniels, Ser’Darius Blain, Jon Rudnitsky, Mallory Jansen and Anna Grace Barlow.

The drama from creator/executive producer Liz Heldens, director/executive producer Jason Winer and executive producer Sue Naegle premiered as part of Fox’s fall lineup. It averaged a 0.4 rating among the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic and 2.8 million multiplatform viewers throughout its 11-episode run in Nielsen’s Live + Same Day data, which counts a week’s worth of delayed viewing where available.

Fox has opted not to proceed with a second season of The Big Leap. The ballet drama-comedy, starring Scott Foley and Simone Recasner, had an 11-episode freshman run, which ended in December, with the network at the time deferring a decision on the show’s future until the spring.

It is one of two Fox freshman dramas on the bubble after soft limited runs, along with Our Kind Of People, which I hear looks promising for a second season due to a strong showing on Fox’s streamer Tubi.

With its music, stage performances and aspirational themes, The Big Leap was a favorite of Fox brass during the development process and arrived with a strong pre-launch buzz, drawing parallels to Fox’s breakout hit Glee.

Kal Penn has joined the “Santa Clause” limited series at Disney Plus, Variety has confirmed.

The series, which was announced on Jan. 14, will see Tim Allen once again play Santa Claus/Scott Calvin and Elizabeth Mitchell reprising her role as Scott’s wife, Carol Calvin, a.k.a. Mrs. Claus. Despite the loss of country music drama “Monarch” on the midseason schedule, Fox executive Michael Thorn is still feeling upbeat about the broadcaster’s prospects going into the spring.

“Really it’s so far, so good in terms of this midseason coming out of another really positive fall,” said Thorn, the president of entertainment for Fox Entertainment. “So moving ‘Monarch’ to September is obviously moving a big piece out of midseason to next year, but it was really in the best interest of the show and I’m really glad we made that decision.”

In particular, Thorn touted the performances of new shows like “The Cleaning Lady,” as well as returning shows like “9-1-1: Lone Star” and “Call Me Kat,” as keeping the network afloat at midseason.

“Monarch,” which boasts Susan Sarandon and Trace Adkins among its stars, was originally meant to debut immediately after the NFC Championship game on Jan.

During Scott Foley’s 25-year film and television career, he’s gone meta and played someone working in the industry (as Roman Bridger in “Scream 3”), and he’s worked on a competition program (as a host and judge on “Ellen’s Next Great Designer”). But now his latest project, “The Big Leap” for Fox, combines those two elements, creating a wholly different experience for the veteran actor.

Foley stars as Nick Smart, the boss behind the dance show-within-the-show on “The Big Leap” from executive producers Liz Heldens and Jason Winer. (The show-within-the-show is also titled “The Big Leap.”) Nick is a fast-talking producer who never hesitates to let those around him know how urgent his requests are. On Saturday, a number of key creatives behind The Big Leap appeared for a virtual Atx panel, teasing the first season of their ballet-themed dramedy, which was just picked up to series in April.

Actress Teri Polo described the show as “this happy, good, hopeful thing”—an underdog story representing the kind of “feel-good” entertainment we all need a bit of right now.

“This show [is one] that doubled down on hope, that was funny, that was about dancing,” added creator-ep Liz Heldens. “I think it’s doing what we wanted it to do.”

The network used its virtual event for ad buyers to tout its subscription-less services. Kicking off with an amusing video that featured Leslie Jordan talking to a slew of Fox stars such as Rob Lowe (as well as some former stars such as 24’s Kiefer Sutherland) and Charlie Collier, CEO of Fox Entertainment getting a ride from You Bet Your Life host Jay Leno, the presentation moved into a Bento Box-animated portion (see above).

Collier and his team, sometimes under the cover of cartoon, gently slammed the other networks and media conglomerates for the arms race in the subscription video on demand world, highlighting that this is a space that isn’t kind to advertisers.

Fox has shared trailers for its new comedies and dramas for the 2021-22 TV season, including the Scott Foley-led “The Big Leap” and Paul Feig’s “Welcome to Flatch.”

The trailers were unveiled at the network’s annual upfront presentation to advertisers on Monday, alongside information about returning favorites “9-1-1,” “The Masked Singer” and “The Resident.”

The new shows teased Monday also include the long-gestating mob drama “The Cleaning Lady” and the ensemble comedy “Pivoting,” starring Eliza Coupe, Maggie Q and Ginnifer Goodwin. The network has not yet shared trailers for its other new shows, including “Alter Ego,” Gordon Ramsey’s “Next Level Chef,” Lee Daniels’ “Our Kind of People” and the “Fantasy Island” reboot starring Roselyn Sanchez.
