Tom Gire has loved music since he found his way onto the piano bench and learned his favorite song by ear at the age of 4. Growing up in the Seattle area, Tom studied and played the piano in settings as diverse as concert halls, jazz clubs, and musical theaters, all the while dreaming of being a jazz recording artist. In 1986, he moved to Los Angeles to attend Pepperdine University on a music scholarship, but he soon realized that his passion was to play, arrange, and create music rather than study it. He did the next logical thing and got a job as a musical director for Princess Cruises. Tom spent 5 years traveling the globe, playing and writing music, and tasting the wonders that the world had to offer .
He returned to LA with a head full of experiences and a beautiful musician wife that he met while working on "The Love Boat". After a few years of playing clubs and weddings while honing his production techniques creating karaoke and remix tracks, he was introduced to John Sponsler by a mutual friend. Their first meeting would change Tom's life and lead to the birth of Magic Box Music and later Brand X Music. John allowed Tom an opportunity to learn, work, and grow, and in so doing, the two forged a friendship and partnership that has spanned nearly 30 years.
Their career has seen them create music for major films including: Pirates of the Caribbean 2, 3 and 4, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, Transformers: 2 and 3, Despicable Me, and Rango. They assisted John Debney on scores ranging from Inspector Gadget to the Spy Kids 1 and 2, and Tom was a featured pianist on scores for Michael Jordan to the Max and The Emperor's New Groove. Tom had the pleasure of assisting his life long hero John Williams as a midi producer and synth programmer on his award winning scores for Memoirs of a Geisha and Munich, as well as Mr. Williams' themes for NBC Sunday Night Football. Magic Box Music has also had original music featured in ads for Boeing, Scion, Wendy's, and The US Navy.
John and Tom formed the Brand X Music catalog as an outgrowth of their work scoring movie trailers. Brand X Music has gone on to become one of the world's go to libraries for high end motion picture advertising. Closing in on their 20th year, the Brand X Music catalog now has over 10,000 cues and represents composers from 11 countries and can be heard daily in trailers, promos, and television all over the world.
Branching out as a solo composer in 2018, Tom has scored numerous projects ranging from documentaries to television to feature films. His love of technology continues to push and evolve him into new corners of both music and business.
Tom is the father of two great kids; one DVM and one a production manager at Brand X. He and his wife share a passion for dogs, Disney, and travel, and he truly feels blessed to be living the life of his wildest dreams.
