Canadian film director Justin Dyck, who is best known for helming the critically acclaimed supernatural horror film Anything for Jackson, has set his next horror project. It's a movie called William, and we shared everything we know so far about it below.

William is being described as a sci-fi horror film. It's based on bestselling author Andrew Pyper's (Mason Coile) horror novel of the same name, which was optioned by Aperture Entertainment. The book was released back in September, and it's currently available to purchase on Amazon as a hardcover or eBook at different prices.

Dyck is signed on to direct the William film adaptation. He's currently working on another horror film as well. It's a movie called The Casket Girls starring Gabrielle Union. Pyper will co-write the screenplay for William with Chris Sivertson. In addition, principal photography is to take place in Canada. However, a production start date is unknown at the moment.

Justin G. Dyck has almost 40 directing credits to his name, and most of those credits have been on TV movie romances with titles like Christmas Wedding Planning, Christmas with a View, A Very Country Wedding, and Art of Falling in Love… but recently, Dyck has been shifting gears. In 2020, he brought us the supernatural horror movie Anything for Jackson (pictured above), which was released through the Shudder streaming service. He went on to contribute to episodes of Shudder’s Creepshow series. Last month, we heard he will be directing the horror film The Casket Girls, starring Gabrielle Union. Now, Deadline reports that Dyck will be directing the haunted house movie William for Aperture Entertainment.

In the wake of 2020’s must-watch Shudder Original Anything for Jackson, director Justin Dyck will return with new horror movie William, officially announced by Deadline today.

Dyck will adapt the same-titled novel from author Andrew Pyper, which was optioned by Aperture Entertainment. The novel was released this past September by Putnam.

Exclusive: Umbrelic Entertainment co-founders Thomas Zambeck and Brian Katz are bringing back a new Anchor Bay Entertainment with an eye on genre films, undiscovered treasures, cult classics, and remastered catalog releases.

“We had an opportunity to take the name of a beloved genre film brand, one we feel a personal connection to, for our new company,” says Zambeck. “This is a new venture, unaffiliated with any previous incarnations. In Lionsgate’s acquisition of Starz in December 2016, the studio absorbed the North American branches of Anchor Bay Entertainment. The Anchor Bay Entertainment trademark was up for acquisition so Zambeck and Katz took the opportunity to acquire it. The new Anchor Bay Entertainment doesn’t include the previous label’s library.

Exclusive: Republic Pictures has snapped up rights to The Image of You, a recently wrapped thriller starring Sasha Pieterse (Pretty Little Liars) in dual roles. Pic is set for release via Paramount Global Content Distribution at a date that hasn’t been disclosed.

What drew you to take the helm on Monstrous, given that you usually direct films you’ve either written or co-written?

Christina Ricci was already attached to the script when it came to me so that was a huge draw. I’ve loved her as an actress for decades and have always admired the interesting choices she makes in material. Then I got even more excited when I read the script. I just thought it was a beautiful and emotional story and it clicked perfectly with my sensibilities. I saw pretty clearly what I could bring to it as a filmmaker.

“Monstrous” is a supernatural thriller that digs much deeper than it first appears: On the surface, Laura (Christina Ricci) is simply a mother looking to restart her life in a new town with her young son Cody. Considering the 1950s setting, a time when it might be unusual for a woman to raise a child alone in a town unfamiliar to her, it’s almost immediately clear that something is up with Laura. Figuring out what that is, however, is what fuels the mystery.

Making matters more curious, Laura and Cody’s new home is remote and near a pond. It’s one of those movie homes that screams “ghosts” and “monsters.” And true to the cliché, the house, while picturesque and perfect in Laura’s eyes, immediately has issues.

Exclusive: Screen Media has acquired North American rights to Chris Sivertson’s psychological horror pic Monstrous, starring Christina Ricci (Yellowjackets), ahead of its weekend world premiere at Glasgow FrightFest. The Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment company plans to release the film in theaters and on demand on May 13.

Monstrous centers on Laura (Ricci), who runs away from her ex-husband with her seven-year-old son, Cody (Santino Barnard), after being traumatized by an abusive relationship. The UK’s No.1 horror & fantasy film festival is back in person at the Glasgow Film Theatre, which for 17 glorious years has been FrightFest’s second home, as part of the internationally renowned Glasgow Film Festival.

Christina Ricci’s upcoming aquatic horror film “Monstrous” is set to premiere at the Glasgow Film Festival (Gff) in March.

Ricci plays a domestic abuse victim fleeing with her 7-year-old soon who soon encounters a terrifying monster living nearby. It is directed by Chris Sivertson (“All Cheerleaders Die”) and written by Carol Chrest (“The Prophet’s Game”).

Also having their world premieres at the festival, which is in its 18th edition, are “Skint,” from Peter Mullan and “Derry Girls” creator Lisa McGee, “Wake Up Punk” from Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren’s son Joe Corré, “Pictures from Iraq” about war photographer David Pratt and “Adult Adoption,” a debut film from Karen Knox.

Mark Rylance starrer “The Outfit” will open Gff while family drama “Murina,”direct by Antoneta Alamat Kusijanovic and executive-produced by Martin Scorsese, will close it.

Altogether the line-up includes 10 World premieres, 4 European premieres, 65 U.K. premieres, and 13 Scottish premieres.

The festival takes place from March 2-13.

The festival takes place from March 2-13.

The 18th edition of the UK’s Glasgow Film Festival (Gff) will open with the UK premiere of Graham Moore’s US title The Outfit, and close with the UK premiere of Croatian director Antoneta Alamat Kusijanovic’s Camera d’Or-winning Murina, when the festival runs as an in-person event from March 2-13.

The line-up includes 10 world premieres, four European premieres and 65 UK premieres.

Highland Film Group has secured multiple distribution deals for action-thriller Wash Me In The River, starring Robert De Niro, John Malkovich, Jack Huston, Quavo and Willa Fitzgerald.

Randall Emmett (Midnight in the Switchgrass) directs from a script by Adam Taylor Barker and Chris Sivertson.

Highland Film Group’s stand-alone distribution arm The Avenue will distribute in North America in partnership with Paramount Home Entertainment, which will handle Blu-ray, DVD, VOD, and digital rights. The U.S. release is planned for spring 2022.

The Robert De Niro film “Wash Me in the River” has been picked up by The Avenue, the distribution arm of Highland Film Group, and will open in North American theaters in the spring of 2022.

“Wash Me In the River” sold out of the European Film Market and just wrapped principal photography in Puerto Rico. Paramount Home Entertainment is also partnering on the release and will handle Blu-ray, DVD, VOD and digital rights.

Producer Randall Emmett directed “Wash Me in the River,” which stars De Niro, John Malkovich and Jack Huston. The action thriller tells the story of a recovering opioid addict who seeks revenge on the dealers responsible for selling the drugs that resulted in his fiancé’s death — all while two cops are hot on his trail.

Adam Taylor Barker and Chris Sivertson wrote the screenplay. “Wash Me in the River” also stars Quavo and Willa Fitzgerald.

Channel 4 Visits ‘Murder Island’

Channel 4 has commissioned Stv Studios, the producer behind BBC crime drama The Victim, to make genre-bending immersive competition format Murder Island. The six-part series blends factual entertainment and crime drama by asking members of the public to play detective in a murder mystery penned by a yet-to-be-announced major crime writer. They will have one nail-biting week to compete to find out if they’ve got what it takes to solve a murder. The series was developed by Stv Studios’ creative director for factual, Craig Hunter; director of development Lucy Hazzard; and executive producer Jonathan Smith. Executive producers are Hunter, Smith, Sara Evans, and David Clews, who also directs. Motion Content Group co-produces with Melanie Darlaston executive producing. Murder Island is funded from Channel 4’s Contestable Pot – a ring-fenced fund to find innovative, channel-defining formats.

Kitsch joins Robert De Niro and John Malkovich a drama that will be directed next month by Randall Emmett. Emmett restarted production and wrapped on Midnight in the Switchgrass, the vet producer’s directing debut. That film, which had Baker in its ensemble cast, halted five days into production when the pandemic shut everything last March. Wash Me in the River shoots early next month in Georgia and Puerto Rico.

Slinky — the popular springy children’s toy — is getting the Hollywood treatment. Tamra Davis, the filmmaker of “Billy Madison” and “Half Baked,” is set to direct “Slinky,” a movie based on the true story behind the inception of the playroom staple.

Though the Slinky was created by Richard James, the film will center on his wife Betty James, who took over the struggling business after her husband left her with their six children and a nearly bankrupt company. In an era dominated by male CEOs, Betty James held her own and helped turn the Slinky into a must-have item for kids.

Joanne Rubino is producing the film through her Be Brave Media production banner. Chris Sivertson is writing the “Slinky” screenplay, along with Ann Carli and Cristina Curbelo. Principal photography is expected to begin in 2021.

Eat, Brains, Love, which world premiered last month at the UK’s Frighfest, is about Jake (Jake Cannavale) and his dream girl Amanda (Angelique Rivera). The good news is she finally knows his name — but the bad news is both contracted a mysterious sexually transmitted zombie virus and devoured the brains of half their senior class.
