BritBox Signs UK Programs From Sphere Abacus

Best-of-British streamer BritBox has bought a package of programs from Sphere Abacus, the UK-based sales house making its debut at MIPCOM in its current guise. Package contains Travels With Agatha Christie with Sir David Suchet from Soho Studios and Two Rivers Media. Suchet is currently on the ground with Sphere Abacus in Cannes, as our report earlier today noted. Also acquired by BritBox are Jon and Lucy’s Odd Couples, The Murder of Sandra Rivett, Breaking Dad: Britain’s Unlikeliest Drug Dealer, Agatha Christie: 100 Years of Poirot and Miss Marple (aka Agatha Christie: 100 Years of Suspense), Diana: The Interview That Shook the World and Susan Hill’s The Small Hand: A Ghost Story (1 x 94’) produced by Awesome and Two Rivers Media. Beta Cinema, Constantin Film, Zeitsprung Pictures and UFA Fiction have unveiled the first look photo of “The Physician II,” the sequel to the hit historical epic.

The original film, released in 2013, sold to over 60 territories and became an international box-office hit. In Germany alone, the film earned $42 million at the box office, with 3.6 million admissions.

“The Physician” director Philipp Stölzl once again brings together a stellar ensemble of international stars and rising talents: Tom Payne reprises his role as the passionate physician Rob Cole and shares the screen with Emily Cox (“The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die”), Aidan Gillen, Áine Rose Daly, Owen Teale, and Liam Cunningham.

The shoot took place from August to October 2024 in Hungary, Cologne and Berlin. Constantin Film is releasing the film in German cinemas on Dec. 25, 2025, and Beta Cinema is handling international sales, presenting first materials at the upcoming American Film Market.

“Fleabag” star Angus Imrie and “Am I Being Unreasonable?” actor Juliet Cowan have joined the cast of the provocatively-titled short film “Does Your Condom Make You Fat?”

Described as an “awkward” comedy-drama, the film explores a world in which men can become pregnant. The script is from Danielle Papamichael.

Imrie plays Owen, a happy-go-lucky lad, whose reliance on the Zap App for effective contraception is disrupted when his phone battery dies. This realization triggers his fears of an unwanted pregnancy, amplified by his date’s early unannounced departure. Throughout the film, Owen grapples with a rollercoaster of emotions as he confronts the unintended consequences of his actions.

Imrie’s other credits include “The Crown,” in which he played a young Prince Edward, as well as “Star Trek: Prodigy” and “The Archers.” Meanwhile, Cowan recently starred in “The Power,” “Flatshare” and “Everything I Know About Love.”

Exclusive: The BBC’s small screen Boiling Point sequel has found a sous chef. Walking Dead star Steven Ogg will play Nick in the upcoming drama, which will pick the story up six months after the conclusion of the BAFTA-nominated Stephen Graham-starring indie pic.

Ogg is best known for playing Simon in a number of seasons of AMC’s The Walking Dead. He was Rebus in HBO’s Westworld, Sobchak in another AMC hit, Better Call Saul, and most recently featured in Will Smith-starring Apple TV+ movie Emancipation.

Ogg’s signing rounds out main cast for the five-parter from Philip Barantini, which is being produced by Matriarch Productions, Ascendant Fox and Made Up Productions.

Sous chef Nick will join Carly’s (Vinette Robinson) fictional restaurant midway through the season, with Carly still featuring in the show as head chef of her own restaurant after she leaves Graham’s establishment.

Kitchen nightmares are all the rage these days – last year’s drama The Bear brought emotion and tender characterisation to the stressful setting of a deep-in-the-hole Chicago sandwich shop, while one-take-for-real movie Boiling Point got audiences hooked with its simmering tension and immersive shooting approach. And it’s been in the works for a little while now that Boiling Point is spinning onto the small screen in a BBC series that won’t continue the one-shot set-up, but will take viewers back into hell’s kitchen – and explore what happens next for Stephen Graham’s chaotic cook Andy.

Full casting has been revealed for Boiling Point, as filming begins on the brand new five-part television series for BBC One and BBC iPlayer in Manchester.

As previously announced, Vinette Robinson (Carly), Stephen Graham (Andy) and Hannah Walters (Emily) will reprise their roles from the multi-award-winning film. They will be joined by the film’s co-stars Ray Panthaki (Freeman), Gary Lamont (Dean), Áine Rose Daly (Robyn),Taz Skylar (Billy), Daniel Larkai (Jake) Stephen McMillan (Jamie), Hannah Traylen (Holly) and Izuka Hoyle (Camille).

The one shot film followed head chef Andy (Stephen Graham), who wrangles his team on the busiest day of the year. The series picks up six months on from where the film left off and sees sous chef Carly (Vinette Robinson) as head chef at her own restaurant, with many of Andy’s original team alongside her. As the pressure mounts to keep the restaurant full, Carly begins to feel the magnitude of responsibility that comes with running her own place.

Dermot Mulroney, Anthony Welsh, Severine Howell-Meri, Cherelle Skeete, and newcomer Gianna Kiehl have joined the season 2 cast of Amazon’s Hanna, from NBCUniversal International Studios, Amazon Studios and Working Title Television. They join Esmé Creed-Miles, who returns for the second season in the title role of Hanna along with Mireille Enos, who reprises her role as CIA operative Marissa Wiegler. Filming for Season 2 is underway in the UK and France.

Written by David Farr (The Night Manager), who co-wrote the original film, Hanna is equal parts high-concept thriller and coming-of-age drama. It follows the journey of an extraordinary teenage girl, determined to escape from the grasp of the shadowy Utrax organization and its ruthless agenda. Farr will also direct episodes for the first time this season, along with French director Eva Husson and Icelandic director Ugla Hauksdóttir (Trapped).

Mulroney will play John Carmichael, a former mentor of Marissa’s (Enos) who has taken over the new chapter of the Utrax operation and is determined to see through its ruthless agenda. Welsh will portray the charming and calculated Leo Garner, who is part of the operations team at Utrax, responsible for indoctrinating the trainees.
