Producer Brad Fuller talks to us about A Quiet Place, making genre films on a budget, and his latest sci-fi thriller, Elevation.

“I’m speaking to you from jail,” producer Brad Fuller says as he appears on a video call from Brisbane, Australia. And, sure enough, he’s sitting directly in front of a large window with horizontal white bars running across it. This is, he tells us, the set of Anaconda – presumably some back office somewhere – his latest project, and one of a string of genre movies he’s steered over the past quarter of a century.

Fuller is a genuine fan of horror, action and creature features. Aside from the aforementioned snake movie – a meta reworking of the 1997 B-movie of the same name – he’s also produced A Quiet Place and its numerous sequels and prequels. At production company Platinum Dunes – which he co-founded in 2001 with Michael Bay...

Wesley Snipes' return as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine was a huge surprise following his repeated clashes with Ryan Reynolds on the set of Blade: Trinity. The actor's scenes were among the threequel's best and it seems everyone wants to see more of the Daywalker.

True Detective star Mahershala Ali was announced as the McU's Blade in 2019 but has so far only lent his voice to Eternals' post-credits scene and the upcoming Marvel Zombies animated series (where he'll play a Blade Variant who becomes Moon Knight). As we write this, his solo movie appears no closer to becoming a reality.

We'll have to wait and see what happens there but Hot Toys has finally pulled the curtain back on its 1/6th scale Blade figure based on Snipes' appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Ahead of Elevation’s UK release, we talk to George Nolfi about monsters, the state of original screenwriting, and his plans for Star Wars.

Since his career began over two decades ago, writer-director George Nolfi has brought a level of thoughtfulness to his genre movies. In The Adjustment Bureau, his 2011 directorial debut, he adapted a Philip K Dick short story as a philosophical sci-fi romance starring Matt Damon and Emily Blunt – something that might have wrong-footed audiences expecting an action thriller in the vein of earlier adaptations of Dick’s other work, most obviously the ultra-violent blockbuster, Total Recall.

Prior to that, Nolfi’s spec script, Honor Among Thieves, was bought up and re-christened as Ocean’s Twelve (2004) – director Steven Soderbergh’s smart, sparky all-star heist comedy. Nolfi also lent his writing talent to The Bourne Supremacy (albeit uncredited) and The Bourne Ultimatum (credited).

In Deadpool & Wolverine, the titular clawed mutant meets Laura, his Variant's "daughter" from 2017's Logan. In that movie, the original X-Men franchise's Wolverine made the ultimate sacrifice to give her and other young mutants the chance to fight for their future. 

After befriending Wade Wilson and making up for the sins of his past, the new Wolverine chooses to remain on Earth-10005 alongside Laura (who was saved from The Void by the Tva). 

Rumour has it that Dafne Keen will reprise her role as X-23 in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. It would make sense for Laura to finally suit up there, particularly if Earth-10005 is the same reality glimpsed at the end of The Marvels; the expectation is that an Incursion will lead to a clash between that world's mutants and Earth-616's Avengers.

After clashing on the set of It Ends With Us, actor Blake Lively's feud with co-star and director Justin Baldoni has led to multiple lawsuits being filed. Those feature almost endless charges and counter-charges but boil down to Lively accusing Baldoni of harassment and retaliation, with Baldoni saying the Green Lantern star has defamed him.

This weekend, Baldoni has updated his lawsuit against Lively to add various claims - a full breakdown can be found on a newly launched website - including accusations of bullying from Ryan Reynolds via Deadpool & Wolverine's Nicepool.

Baldoni and his lawyer argue that Nicepool was created by Reynolds to mock and bully him. "Reynolds portrayed Nicepool as a vicious caricature of a 'woke' feminist before concluding the character’s arc with his violent shooting death at the hands of 'Ladypool,' a character voiced by Blake Lively," the suit states.

The synopsis of Elevation doesn’t really give much away and probably with good reason as that is simply the crux of the story. Set several years after some rather odd-looking giant insect creatures invade the earth and wipe out 95% of the population, a handful of humans remain scattered across the planet (we presume although I think only the US is mentioned) and they can only survive if they live at 8000 feet. Minor spoiler, they don’t really explain the whole 8000 feet thing and why the monsters can’t climb any higher than that so if you’re someone who needs logic to...

The Star Wars movie centered on Daisy Ridley’s Rey has found another new writer. THR reports that George Nolfi, best known for The Bourne Ultimatum and Ocean’s Twelve, will take over the script for the new Star Wars movie.

The project, which is set to be helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel), was originally thought to be one of the first new Star Wars films to be released, but it’s been plagued with setbacks. It was first announced at Star Wars Celebration close to two years ago, with Damon Lindelof (Lost) and Justin Britt-Gibson (The Strain) writing the script. The pair left or were “asked to leave,” as Lindelof put it, and Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) stepped in to take over. However, Knight dropped out last October. Here’s hoping Nolfi has better luck.

Even though Jared Padalecki's Fire Country spinoff might not happen anytime soon, his replacement series is great news for CBS's future. Padalecki had a recurring role as Camden Casey, a firefighter from Southern California who travels to Edgewater to assist in Bode's cadet training, in season 3 of the CBS action drama series. The former Supernatural actor appeared in three episodes before his character returned home. Reports claimed that Padalecki's Fire Country arc would lay the groundwork for a spinoff series revolving around Camden, but recent news suggests otherwise.

CBS officially has one Fire Country spinoff in development — a Sheriff Country spinoff starring Morena Baccarin as Sheriff Mickey Fox (which has been confirmed for the 2025–2026 TV season).

According to Deadline, Padalecki is working on a new TV drama for CBS instead of his reported Fire Country spinoff. The actor previously signed a deal with the network to develop shows.

After playing Harry Bosch for a decade on Bosch and Bosch: Legacy, Titus Welliver is taking on a new leading character for a TV crime drama. Welliver and Juani Feliz (Harlem) have been tapped as the two leads of CBS’ potential spinoff from The Equalizer.

As Deadline reported exclusively last month, the Queen Latifah procedural will introduce the two new characters, which could anchor their own series, in Episode 516 this season.

Welliver will play Hudson Reed, a former top CIA operative with a dark secret who is connected to Robin McCall (Queen Latifah) by an old mentor. Feliz plays Samantha Reed who has been trained by her father to be a weapons expert, skilled martial artist and true chameleon all while hiding a mysterious past.

Both Welliver and Feliz have been cast as guest stars with series regular options for the potential spinoff.

Last night, the news broke that It Ends With Us actor and director Justin Baldoni has officially sued co-star Blake Lively and husband Ryan Reynolds to the tune of $400 million - and it goes well beyond the Nicepool situation!

The lawsuit claims that the couple hijacked his film and attempted to "destroy him with false allegations of sexual harassment." The 179-page complaint also accuses Lively and Reynolds of civil extortion, defamation and invasion of privacy.

Earlier this week, Justin Baldoni's lawyer Bryan Freedman sent a litigation hold letter to Marvel Studios and Disney, demanding that they share all documents relating to the development of the Nicepool character in Deadpool and Wolverine.

In the movie, the Wade Wilson variant has a number of exchanges with the Og Deadpool that certainly could be construed as making reference to some of Blake Lively's accusations against her It Ends With Us co-star and director, and Baldoni is convinced that Reynolds was "flagrantly mocking" him with the creation of the character.

THR has now shared an update, and it seems Freedman believes that the character of Nicepool was developed around the same time Lively and Baldoni's relationship soured during the It Ends With Us shoot. Apparently, Nicepool was created before the rift between the actors, but scenes involving the variant were shot later on, following the November 2023 conclusion of the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Sheriff Country gets a big update, as lead star Morena Baccarin shares photos from the set. The first Fire Country spinoff will see Baccarin reprise the role of Mickey Fox, the step-sister of Sharon (Diane Farr) and a Sheriff's Sergeant. Although she has only appeared in a single episode of the main series so far, Mickey will soon step into the spotlight.

Baccarin shared some photos from the set of Sheriff Country, showing the Deadpool & Wolverine star standing and posing with Farr. The photos also show the dark exterior, with the two actors seemingly filming in the woods. It may bring to mind a scene from Baccarin's appearance in Fire Country, with Mickey and Sharon running in the woods. The caption, in any case, reads: “TV sisters and more!!! Can’t wait to see what’s coming for us!

CBS has pulled Fire Country from its primetime schedule.

Due to the California fires, CBS wanted to show sensitivity to what had happened.

As Fire Country fans know, the show is about a local man trying to find redemption at his new job with Cal Fire.

Max Thieriot stars as Bode Leone (Donovan), with Billy Burke as his dad, Vince Leone, and Diane Farr as his mom Sharon.

Fire Country also features Stephanie Arcila as Gabriela Perez, Kevin Alejandro as Manny Perez, Jordan Calloway as Jake Crawford, and Jules Latimer as Eve Edwards.

The show often deals with California fires, frequently with those fires encroaching on residences and putting firefighters at risk.

In the latest report, four major fires in Southern California were burning out of control in the Pacific Palisades and Pasadena areas outside Los Angeles.

CBS sidelines Fire Country due to California fires

CBS has pulled the January 10 Fire Country episode.

Morena Baccarin is a significant actress in science fiction and comic adaptations in both movies and TV shows. In recent years, she's distinguished herself in the Deadpool films as Vanessa, demonstrating both the comedic and dramatic sides of her performances. Deadpool has many tongue-in-cheek moments but is anchored by the emotional core of the relationship between Vanessa and Wade (Ryan Reynolds), which Baccarin is well suited to portraying. However, it's Baccarin's television roles that have garnered her the most recognition and highlighted what a skilled performer she is, adapting to whatever a role calls for.

One of Baccarin's most prominent early roles was her turn in Firefly, a great TV show with only one season, but that's far from the only notable work of her career. However, it's because of her roles in cult-favorite projects like Firefly that fans have kept up with the actress' work throughout her different projects.

Though the prospect of Deadpool coming back for a third film would have been enough to draw audiences in, Deadpool & Wolverine upped the movie's box office appeal by bringing back Hugh Jackman to star alongside Ryan Reynolds. Jackman had previously played Wolverine for 17 years before retiring from the role, so his decision to return sent shockwaves among Marvel fans. Apparently, that included Reynolds, who co-wrote the film.

In an interview with IndieWire, the actor revealed that writing "Wolverine dialogue was a terrifying process." Reynolds used this opportunity to heap praise onto his friend and costar Jackman, speaking more specifically about a scene wherein WOlverine gives Deadpool a heavy reality check:

"Hugh took that monologue and just devoured it. He chewed it, swallowed it, and delivered for us…and at the end, there’s a stage direction at the bottom that briefly says after he finishes that whole speech, 'a flicker of regret crosses his pupil.

Superhero movies have a complicated relationship with the Academy Awards. Typically, their nominations tend to be for more technical categories, such as Best Visual Effects. A notable exception to this was Black Panther receiving a nod for Best Picture. Even so, the minds behind Deadpool & Wolverine discussed whether the McU's first R-rated outing could be an Oscars contender, specifically in the "Best Adapted Screenplay" category.

Speaking with IndieWire, director Shawn Levy explained:

"There’s this presumption, because the movie has a bouncy, naturalistic flow to it that, 'Oh, we’re just finding it through improvisation, and we’re trying stuff out on set.' And certainly, there’s a little bit of that, but we refuse to go into production without a script that is honestly 95 percent reflective of the movie that everyone’s seen, and it really was the outgrowth of a long, long writing process."

When a beloved TV show is canceled after just one season, it's a disappointing outcome. While every TV series risks cancelation no matter what, it always comes as a shock when a genuinely good show is struck down before it has the chance to establish itself. From overlooked crime TV shows that only lasted one season to short-lived comedies, no TV genre is safe from the dreaded cancelation after just one outing. For many of these series, as time has progressed, critical and audience reception has further proved they should've gone on for longer.

All of these TV shows were canceled too soon for a variety of reasons, but most of the reasoning comes down to numbers. The veteran Gilmore Girls and Supernatural star joined Fire Country season 3 as Camden Casey. Although he recognizes the raw talent of Bode (Max Theriot), this also means that the two clash over the course of a three-episode arc. The guest run is reportedly meant to serve as an introduction for a spinoff led by Padalecki.

In an interview with TV Insider, Napolitano clarified that Padalecki will not be back for the rest of season 3. The first Fire Country spinoff planned is Sheriff Country, which, as one can ascertain from the title, is going to be about the sheriffs on duty the same way firefighters spearheaded the original. There will be overlapping characters, and perhaps even intersecting storylines. The most exciting aspect of the spinoff, though, is the way that secondary characters will be turned into leads.

Since the first trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine dropped, Wade Wilson calling himself "Marvel Jesus" has proven to be one of the film's most memorable lines. The film overall completely demolished the fourth wall with its approach to Marvel's post-Endgame record, which is generally viewed as less successful than the previous decade of films. However, the scene in which Deadpool declares himself the messiah of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is perhaps the most infamous line from the film.

The cast of the space Western series Firefly is reuniting to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the continuation film Serenity. Joss Whedon’s cult sci-fi series followed Captain Mal Reynolds (Nathan Fillion) and his ragtag crew aboard the spaceship Serenity as they navigated life on the dark fringes of space. Despite its short-lived run, Firefly developed a supportive fanbase which brought about Whedon's 2005 feature film Serenity, taking place after the events of the series' finale.

ReedPop announced that the cast of Firefly are heading to Emerald City Comic Con (Eccc) 2025 for a commemorative event honoring Serenity's milestone anniversary. Exclusive: W. Earl Brown has signed on for a guest starring role on the CBS drama series Fire Country. The episode is expected to introduce him as a series regular on the Morena Baccarin-led spinoff Sheriff Country.

The new CBS Studios-produced project was ordered to series for the 2025-26 season in May.

Sheriff Country follows straight-shooting Sheriff Mickey Fox (Baccarin), the stepsister of Cal Fire’s division chief Sharon Leone (Diane Farr), who investigates criminal activity as she patrols the streets of small-town Edgewater while contending with her ex-con father and a mysterious incident involving her wayward daughter.

Brown will portray Wes, an off-the-grid marijuana grower as well as the father of Sheriff Mickey Fox and stepfather of Sharon Leone. Wes lives a semi-reclusive life in the mountains of Edgewater, allowing only a select few to know the location of his marijuana grow operation.

Ryan Reynolds is once again fundraising for The SickKids Foundation, but this time, he’s got a little help from a DC icon. “Benevolence is thirsty work,” Deadpool says in the opening moments of the video as he walks up to Kidpool sitting in a sleigh. When asked what’s next, Deadpool says, “I thought we’d eliminate sick kids,” which Kidpool thinks is pretty “f***ed up.“
