Guy Stern(1922-2023)
He was one of the "Ritchie Boys" recruited to a secret U.S. military intelligence program that helped defeat Nazi Germany, and later became a professor of German literature who focused on the stories of exiles and immigrants. He was the only member of his family who escaped Germany and thus survived the Holocaust.
He studied languages at Hofstra University. At Columbia University, he received a master's degree and a PhD, both in German. He served on the faculty at Denison University, the University of Cincinnati, the University of Maryland, and Wayne State University.
