- In 2015, Lynn Shelton met Marc Maron for the first time when she was a guest on his podcast, "WTF with Marc Maron". Over the next five years, they worked together professionally on multiple projects, including Shelton directing two of his comedy specials, multiple episodes of his shows Maron (2013) and GLOW (2017), and the movie Sword of Trust (2019). They also became romantic partners before her death on May 16, 2020.
- Did not make her first feature film until the age of 39. She was inspired by witnessing an interview with Claire Denis who was a similar late-starter into filmmaking, which made her realize it wasn't too late for her.
- At the time of her unexpected death, she and Marc Maron were collaborating on a screenplay for a dramatic movie.
- Attended Oberlin College in Ohio and then the University of Washington School of Drama.
- Received her Master's of Fine Arts degree in photography and related media from the School of Visual Arts.
- Survived by two brothers, David Shelton and Robert Rynd, and a sister, Tanya Rynd, with whom she grew up in Seattle.
- Mother, with ex-husband Kevin Seal, of son Milo Seal (born 1999).
- In August 2020, The American Cinematheque hosted an online tribute event for Lynn Shelton, featuring Gillian Jacobs, Kerry Washington, Reese Witherspoon, and more.
