Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, Toby Stephens, Alex Jennings, David Tennant, and Paapa Essiedu are just a few of the actors who have taken on the melancholy royal for the RSC.
Ben Kingsley gave his Hamlet at Stratford-upon-Avon Upon Avon in 1975. When Richard Attenborough couldn’t decide who to cast to portray Mahatma Gandhi in his epic movie Gandhi, he remembered Kingsley’s interpretation of the Dane. The rest is Academy Award history.

Mickey 17 Review: Bong Joon Ho’s Sci-Fi Comedy is an Oddly Manipulative, Self-Congratulatory Parable

Is Mark Ruffalo giving a Trump impression? It’s early into Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17 when the actor struts into the frame in a velvety blazer, wife Ylfa (Toni Collette) in tow, gloating as a crowd stands and claps like he’s the second coming of Christ. Ruffalo is Kenneth Marshall, leader of some cult-adjacent Church and one-time presidential candidate behind a new space mission designed to yank humanity from a near-inhospitable Earth and drop it onto Niflheim, a planet in some remote corner of the galaxy. A hopeless narcissist surrounded by a cabal of yes-men armed with cameras immortalizing his every move, he speaks with impossibly white teeth forever bared in a self-congratulatory grimace, nostrils flared, vowels ever so slightly drawn out. In a film ostensibly following not one but two (!) Robert Pattinsons, it’s Ruffalo that takes center stage. And if his diction and mannerisms instantly...

It may have taken him several decades, a brief stint with heresy and multiple run-ins with Satan himself, but Homer Simpson has finally achieved what only Martin Luther, left-handedness and child sex abuse scandals have before him — serving as a dividing line between Catholics around the globe.
Unlike his Protestant predecessors, Homer’s ascent to Catholic controversy began not by nailing his 95 theses of Western Branch of American Reform Presbylutheranism to the hallowed doors of Lard Lad Donuts, but rather through Father Francesco Occhetta, who dubbed Springfield’s mediocre-est as one of his own in an infamous 2010 article for Vatican City’s daily newspaper.
“Few know it, and he does everything to hide it, (but) it's true: Homer J. Simpson is Catholic,” read the controversial piece in L’Osservatore Romano celebrating the series’ 20th anniversary. “The Simpsons remain among the few TV programs for kids in which the Christian faith,...

The great state of Georgia has been home to an impressive number of film productions, including a number of Marvel Studios movies, but only a very small percentage of those are actually set in Georgia. Instead, the Atlanta streets frequently play the role of New York or Washington D.C., and its wild spaces can be used to represent just about anywhere.
But what about those movies that actually take place in the beautiful, complicated Peach State? Films as diverse and wonderful as "Magic Mike Xxl" and "Days of Thunder" all have great stretches set in Georgia, but some films go even further and really represent a little slice of the state with most of their runtime. Whether it's Clint Eastwood's genteel Savannah true crime murder mystery "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil," having an aca-awesome time with college acapella performers in Atlanta in "Pitch Perfect," or...

In 2018, 26-year-old American evangelical missionary John Allen Chau went on the most dangerous mission of his life. He secretly journeyed to North Sentinel Island in the Bay of Bengal in an attempt to convert its small population to Christianity, despite their strident insistence on staying disconnected from the rest of the world. As he tried to make contact with the people of the island, he was killed by arrows. His body was never recovered.
Now, Justin Lin’s Last Days seeks out to provide a coherent characterization of the young evangelical. Chau (Sky Yang) is presented in this misaligned attempt at character-based drama as an over-eager obsessive who never knew how to exercise caution or stop proclaiming his passion for Jesus to the world. A passionate evangelical from a comfortable California suburb, he doesn’t appear to have ever had or wanted any other profession than carrying the gospel to...

George Lucas, the creator of the iconic Star Wars franchise has crafted a solid character arc for Anakin Skywalker/ Darth Vader. In the original trilogy he emerged as the arch-villain, however, Lucas provided a profound backstory of his villain arc in the prequel.
It didn’t go unnoticed by the Star Wars fans that Anakin, the Chosen One has similarities with Jesus Christ. Born of a mother but no father, and other striking similarities contribute to the comparison of Anakin with Christ.

However, the creator Lucas himself debunked the fact of Anakin Skywalker is the equivalent of Jesus Christ. In an old interview, Lucas shared his vision of the character Anakin Skywalker. His response clearly shut the comparison theories of many Star Wars speculations.

Yesterday, Along Main Street published an article on the upcoming animated feature, Light of the World (2025), and how Disney's influence brought it to life. Today, Disney animator Tom Bancroft shares a message for fans of the studio's peak era.
Bancroft, along with his brother Tony Bancroft, were instrumental in crafting the look and designs of many of our favorite Disney features. Known for creating the character of Mushu for Disney's Mulan (1998), he has also had his hand in many other iconic films like Beauty and the Beast (1991) and The Lion King (1994). Now, he's taking that Disney magic and telling a whole new story.

Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ 2 is confirmed, but the sequel looks to be a lot more controversial. In 2004, The Passion of the Christ took the world by storm with particular appeal to American evangelicals, and it was successful in many international markets as well. Principally inspired by the Gospel of John, The Passion of the Christ also incorporated a number of Catholic traditions and even the visions of Anne Catherine Emmerich (1774-1824). Its release became particularly controversial due to charges of antisemitism — not helped by Gibson's own personal controversies.
Since 2004, Gibson has openly talked about the possibility of making a sequel that continues the narrative. The Passion of the Christ was undeniably one of the most important Biblical epics ever made by Hollywood, so it's not really a surprise to see Gibson finally attempt to turn this into something of a loose franchise — especially at...

According to Mel Gibson, Martin Scorsese wanted him to star in The Last Temptation of Christ, but the Lethal Weapon actor wasn’t interested.
“Interestingly enough, I was in a hotel room in the Savoy and I had food poisoning. I was near dead from it. I ate a bad oyster in London and I was dying in a hotel room and I couldn’t even leave. It was the worst,” Gibson said on the Joe Rogen Experience podcast. “While I was there, Scorsese calls the room and says, ‘Come here, I want to talk to you.’ I go and I talk to Martin and he’s in his room and all the windows, the screens, he’s drawn on. He’s got 18 different TVs going on at the same time in this dark room. He’s talking to me about the ‘The Last Temptation of Christ’ and he wants...

Mel Gibson was in no way tempted to star as Jesus in Martin Scorsese’s “The Last Temptation of Christ,” despite the auteur wanting to cast him.

Mel Gibson just gave a major update to his long-awaited sequel to his 2004 blockbuster The Passion of the Christ.
Speaking on Joe Rogan’s podcast Thursday, the actor-director says he plans to begin filming the sequel in 2026. The title: The Resurrection of the Christ.
“I’m hoping [to start filming] next year sometime,” Gibson said. “There’s a lot required because [the script is] an acid trip. I’ve never read anything like it. There’s some crazy stuff. In order to tell the story properly you have to start with the fall of the angels. You’re in another realm. You need to go Hell. You need to go to Sheol.”

While John Lennon sang about peace and love, it didn’t take much to get him angry for much of his career. In the early 1970s, Lennon heckled comedians, fought with friends, and trashed his home. In the early 1960s and before, Lennon frequently brawled. He once got in a fight with a friend that left him stricken by just how angry he felt.
John Lennon seemed shocked by how angry he got at a friend
Long before The Beatles hit it big, Lennon spent many nights drinking at a local Liverpool bar. While his friends say he was mostly “very entertaining,” his mood could turn darker without much warning. He shouted at people and even got physical. His school friend, Jonathan Hague, recalled a time Lennon began hitting him.
“He got my duffel coat up over my head and started flailing away,” Hague said in the book The Beatles by Bob Spitz.

Andrew Garfield addresses potentially playing Jesus in Martin Scorsese's new movie, saying "You can’t just keep waiting for Scorsese to call." The legendary director is best known for operating within the gangster genre with Mean Streets, Goodfellas, Casino, Gangs of New York, The Departed, and The Irishman. However, he has also frequently explored religion throughout his career with the religious epics The Last Temptation of Christ, Kundun, and Silence – the last of which starred Andrew Garfield.
Within his illustrious filmography, Scorsese's religious epics tend to be less popular than his gangster films, despite being equally as masterful. His 1988 epic, The Last Temptation of Christ, was quite controversial for retelling the life of Christ in human rather than divine terms. It ended up being a modest box office success that grossed over $33 million on a $7 million budget. One of his lesser-known films, 1997's Kundun, offered an account of the...

Casting decisions for superhero movies can often met with a mixed response and the same has been the case for Jason Momoa joining James Gunn’s new DC Universe as the antihero, Lobo. The major concern regarding his casting has been his previous role in Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe, where he played the Atlantean superhero Aquaman.

However, Momoa is not the first actor to take on multiple roles in a franchise. And one of the biggest examples of such casting shifts has been the Marvel star Chris Evans, who seamlessly transitioned from playing Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four to becoming the iconic Captain America in the MCU.

Coming off the success of Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan has decided to tackle the daunting tale of Homer's The Odyssey as his next project, which will continue a theme found in most of the filmmaker's movies. Nolan is, without a doubt, one of the most prolific and renowned directors of the 21st century. So, if anyone were to take on The Odyssey, it's fitting that Nolan would be the one to do so. Many have faith that Nolan will do the story justice, especially since the classic story is similar to some of the films he has directed, written, and produced before.
According to Universal Pictures (via X), Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is "a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology. The film brings Homer's foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026."

In the animated world of television entertainment, one series takes the cake due to consistently airing the most controversial and contentious episodes imaginable. The series, namely Family Guy, has featured some of the most crude and offensive humor as its weapon of choice in its narrative plotline. However, the same trait makes the show a painful experience to sit through.
Family Guy [Credit: Fox]
Family Guy has crossed the line numerous times when it comes to maintaining a semblance of normalcy and a PG-13 dynamic. The storylines are more often than not derailed by the sudden turn into divisive notions about religion, sexual orientation, race, etc. However, the voice actors working behind the scenes have always come through, respecting the writer’s creative choices.
Only rarely has a line of dialogue been so offensive that the actors were forced to rebel behind the scenes.

This article contains spoilers for "Skeleton Crew" episode 5.
The fifth episode of "Star Wars: Skeleton Crew," Lucasfilm's latest offering on Disney+, brings the kids and their alleged Jedi protector Jod Na Nawood (Jude Law) to the planet Lanupa in search of the coordinates of their homeworld of At Attin. The episode title, "You Have a Lot to Learn About Pirates" is indeed apt, as the kids and their naiveté get in their way and land them in a cliffhanger's worth of trouble through the course of the episode, but we're getting a little ahead of ourselves. Lanupa is an old world with many names according to Sm-33 (Nick Frost) —The Battle World or even The Demon's Rest. It was the old secret subterranean hideout of the legendary pirate Tak Rennod and it turns out the ship the kids stole turns out to be Captain Rennod's, the Onyx Cinder. On Lanupa,...

By the end of the '90s, Denzel Washington had seemingly done it all. After his breakout role in arguably the best Civil War film ever made, 1989's "Glory," earned him an Oscar for best Supporting Actor, he went on to earn yet another Academy Award nomination for his performance in "Malcom X" in 1992 and "The Hurricane" in 1999. Throughout that time, he'd proven he was also more than capable of bringing his effortless charismas to less cerebral fare such as action thriller "Crimson Tide" and crime drama "The Bone Collector."
But by the end of the millennium there was still one thing Denzel had never done: play a bad guy. The actor was so naturally magnetic that it seems Hollywood never thought to waste such appeal on a villain, and so Denzel remained a good guy right up until 2001. That year, however, he fronted the film that would not only...

If you haven’t watched a new episode of The Simpsons in the last 10 seasons, you might find the current state of a certain character a little sad-diddly-ding-dong-depressing.
With the possible exception only of one Hans Moleman, there isn’t a single surviving Simpsons character from the inaugural cast who has had a more heartbreaking 35 years than Ned Flanders. Between the tragic t-shirt-cannon killing of his kids’ mother Maude to the offscreen death of his second wife Edna Krabappel, Flanders has loved and lost repeatedly while raising Rod and Todd to be conservative and Christ-fearing men largely on his own. Despite his godliness and his good-neighborly behavior, the Simpsons universe has not been kind to the Leftorium proprietor, and the rare, permanent canon adjustments have all been a one-way ticket to Bereavementburgh when poor Neddy deserves to be in Cidertown.

Never pictured Charlie Brown as a younger version of Frank Costanza? Get ready to bask in their mutual holiday misery.
The two blockheads have a lot in common. Charlie Brown detests the overcommercialization of Christmas; Costanza finds tinsel distracting. Both are drawn to aluminum poles. And both have a long list of holiday grievances. “Rats. Nobody sent me a Christmas card today,” grumbles Charlie Brown in the original special. “I almost wish there weren’t a holiday season.”
Complaining about the season is what Costanza’s holiday is all about. “At the Festivus dinner,” he explains, “you gather your family around, and you tell them all the ways they have disappointed you over the past year.”
While A Charlie Brown Festivus is fun, it’s disappointingly short at 33 seconds. Luckily, there are more Charlie Brown Christmas parodies that also deliver the goods.

The next part of the new Doctor Who series will be the Christmas special titled “Joy to the World,” which is set to be released on December 25, 2024, on Christmas day, which makes sense. When Richard Donner was trying to cast an actor in the role of Jor-El for 1978's "Superman," he recalled traveling to Los Angeles to meet "Marlon F*****g Brando" at his house on Mulholland Drive, and noted that both he and Jack Nicholson shared "a little compound" (via The Hollywood Reporter). In retrospect, one gets the sense that nobody else other than Jack F*****g Nicholson could have shared this exclusive little pocket of Hollywood Hills real estate. There simply wasn't another actor that could match Brando's esteem.
Before Nicholson disappeared from Hollywood entirely, he was surely one of the last great movie stars — even if his final film was a star studded box office bomb. Before he secured one of the wildest deals in Hollywood history and netted himself well clear of $50 million to play the Joker in 1989's "Batman," Nicholson's legendary status was well-established. Sister Wives' star Christine Brown has been on quite the whirlwind of a journey since she left her "ex-husband" Kody Brown to find love with David Woolley on the show, but her children may not appreciate her new marriage. Her decision to remarry marks a significant milestone for Christine - one she has gushed about, but her children's reactions reveal a more complicated family dynamic. While Christine has openly shared her happiness, her children's varying responses suggest a mix of caution and adjustment.
Gwendlyn Brown's candid reflections, Paedon Brown's public reservations, and the noticeable silence from Aspyn Brown and Mykelti Padron on social media may send subtle signals about the family's attitude towards Christine and David's new chapter. In 293 episodes, Blue Bloods has never missed a family dinner.
Sometimes, the iconic dinner scenes were in a hotel, hospital, or diner, but there was guaranteed to be a scene where the Reagans got together, put all their problems aside, and spent time together as a family.
These Blue Bloods family dinners were as important to the cast and writers as they were to the audience, and they were a true labor of love, considering how much work went into them.
(John Paul Filo/CBS) The Iconic Blue Bloods Family Dinners Were The Intentional Centerpiece Of The Series
The family dinner scenes are more associated with Blue Bloods than any other aspect of the police/family drama, and that was on purpose.
From the beginning, late producer Leonard Goldberg wanted the dinners to be central because he intended the show to be about a family of cops, not just a police procedural.
